Una conca bellissima, un lembo di terra che si affaccia sull’oceano tra palme e baobab secolari, giardini colmi di fiori e ricca vegetazione, colorate buganville.

The prestigious THE CRABS complex opens out onto Leopard Point, in a magical location perched above the sea inside the famous protected Malindi marine park, in the very heart of the town’s residential centre. A beautiful valley, a strip of land that overlooks the ocean between palm trees and centuries-old baobab trees, gardens full of flowers and lush vegetation, and colourful bougainvillea.

All’imbrunire, quando il tramonto mette in scena sfumature indimenticabili, la spiaggia si anima di innumerevoli granchi. Da qui l’ispirazione progettuale dell’Architetto Daniela Sormani che, disegnando forme snelle e affascinati, ha voluto creare un insieme di strutture la cui forma ricorda quella di un granchio. “Chele” verticali si spingono così verso il sole e il cielo, racchiudendo in sé spazi emozionanti, atmosfere uniche frutto di un’idea sapientemente concepita ed eseguita a regola d’arte. Tutta la tradizione e il calore del Kenia uniti a un concetto moderno del vivere e dell’abitare, in un connubio assoluto di sensazioni e suggestioni che solo l’Africa può trasmettere.
As night falls, when sunset puts on unforgettable hues, the beach comes alive with countless crabs. Architect Daniela Sormani used this as her design inspiration, drawing slender and fascinating shapes. She wanted to create a group of structures the shape of which resembles a crab. Vertical “pincers” rise up towards the sun and sky, enclosing exciting spaces and a unique atmosphere that are the fruit of a cleverly conceived idea, executed to perfection. All the tradition and warmth of Kenya come together in a modern living concept, an absolute marriage of sensations and feelings that can only come from Africa.

Design ultramoderno, ma anche perfetta combinazione tra creatività architettonica e ambientalismo costruttivo. Ogni unità de I GRANCHI è stata realizzata nel pieno rispetto della tradizione indigena, facendo uso di tecniche e materiali locali: dal pavimento Taraso all’intonaco colorato Niru, dai serramenti in vetro locale fino alle coperture realizzate con travi di Casuarina, il tipico legno impiegato nella costruzione dei tetti di makuti in Kenya.
Ultramodern design that is also a perfect combination between architectural creativity and environmentally aware construction. Every unit at THE CRABS has been created with full respect for indigenous tradition, making use of local techniques and materials: from the Taraso flooring to the Niru-coloured plaster, from the windows in local glass to the roof with beams made from Casuarina, the typical wood used in Kenya to construct makuti roofs.

Se ci si circonda di bello forse anche i pensieri e i gesti della quotidianità diventano più armoniosi. Spesso siamo portati a considerare lo spazio come un vuoto, inventare significa invece vederci qualcosa o meglio ASCOLTARE qualcosa ! Riuscire ad ascoltare uno spazio è suggestione, se si ha la sensibilità per avvertirlo.
