THE INTERVIEW PROCESS
During the interview, I was greeted by my soon-to-be supervisor, Jonathan King, along with his two interns, Bekah Bennett and Ben Miller, both of which were peers of mine. I showed the work I had produced in my years at the university, my portfolio website, and my resume. After a quick answering of questions produced by Jonathan, the interview became relaxed conversation as I had received the job. I felt very prepared, and the only change I’ll make in my next interview will be the addition of the works produced at the UT Athletic Department.

The work environment is very relaxed, as it was during the interview. This is mildly deceiving though, because projects flow in and out at a non-stop pace. Jonathan is very accommodating to the times I am available, and I work about 25-30 hours a week. As soon as I entered the environment, I was expected to help work on programs, cutting out football players in Photoshop to be placed into mailers, and even create new business cards for the staff at the UT athletic department.

I felt very prepared for this experience from a technical standpoint, although I felt as though I was not prepared for quick turnaround and constant bombardment of work from passing coaches and staff. This was different from my previous work experience, and I am glad I was able to experience this type of workload. The amount of projects that are constantly being worked on can number from five to well into the teens. These projects often span across all of the interns and Jonathan. We work on them together, and once we have decided the best measure for

Business Cards Left Image
One of my first objectives at the University of Tennessee’s Athletic Department was to recreate the business cards of coaches and staff.
Checkered Stripe Element Right
While creating the business cards, I also produced a new element to be used in future designs by the creative team.

Motivational
Poster
With freshmen coming in the door, there needs to be a reminder of what their priorities should be. This poster is to act as motivation for these incoming football players to work hard and play tough.

TAKE AWAY
I learned how to work fast and under pressure. I stepped out of my comfort zone, and push through difficult work scenarios. While I am not a huge fan of sports, and almost know nothing about football, I could fit into this atmosphere. I feel as in three months, I learned so much about the design world, and gathered a great deal of appreciation for those who work this hard every day to produce designs that may only be seen by an audience in the tens, or even as grand as an audience in the hundreds of thousands.
