REEL MEAL | Breathe Free

Join the ZMA and our Reel Meal partners for a special presentation of the moving documentary, Breathe Free. This film, which was created by Zanesville, Ohio, filmmaker, Doug Swift, and accompanies the museum’s upcoming exhibition, Columbus Crossing Borders Project, chronicles the personal stories of refugees living in central Ohio. Saturday, February 10, 6 pm, at the ZMA. Free and open to the public. Donations to Columbus Crossing Borders Project welcome. No registration required.

FREE FAMILY DAY AT THE ZMA | Holiday Traditions Around the World Join us for an exciting afternoon of festive art activities, live music, and delicious treats. Let the holiday traditions from all over the globe inspire you to create one-of-a-kind holiday decorations, cards, and gifts. Bring the whole family, and create a few new traditions this season. Jumpst

Become an apprentice to masters like Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo, Georgia O'Keeffe, or Mary Cassatt. Each month children in grades four through six will investigate the art, style, and technique used by a different master artist, then they will create their own masterpiece. For each class, participants will earn apprentice rewards to add to their very own artist palette. Fill the palette with colorful rewards to receive unique art supplies and discounts on future programs.

JumpstART is a program for preschoolers that meets the second Friday of each month. Expose your child to the exciting world of art. Each session is unique as you both experiment with new materials, discover art-making techniques, and explore hidden treasures in the ZMA’s galleries. Fridays, October 13, November 10, December 8, and January 12, 10:30–11:30 am, at the ZMA. Free for members and not-yet-members. Recommended for ages 15 months–4 years. Registration required. WATER MEDIA OCT 13 Discover how members of the Southeastern Ohio Watermedia Society combine water with a variety of materials to achieve breathtaking results. Then your preschooler will explore some of these water media techniques to create a wonderful project.

NOV 10 CERAMICS Explore Contemporary Ceramics by Justin Teilhet with your preschooler, and discover the various elements of a vessel. Afterwards, let the different shapes of Teilhet’s ceramics inspire your own contemporary, air-dry ceramic creation. RED and GREEN DEC 8 Learn all about the special relationship between the common holiday colors, red and green. Create exciting, festive artwork with red and green and other complementary color pairs.

JAN 12 STAINED GLASS Discover beautiful works of stained glass with your preschooler at the ZMA. Create your own stunning stained glass inspired sun catcher using common household materials.

Be inspired by Sandusky artist John Jay Barber’s love of painting Ohio’s picturesque landscapes and farm scenes. Experiment with drawing and painting techniques to create your own beautiful farm painting with life-like animals.

Z MA | Zanesville Teens Making Art Join us for a unique teen art-making program that will help young adults strengthen valuable team-building and leadership skills. Participants of the ZTMA community will collaborate with artist mentors, develop social networks with other creative teens, make art individually for their portfolios, and create art collaboratively for community-wide projects. Teens in grades seven through twelve will meet twice a month to organize, plan, create, and execute a joint artistic project. Open studio time will also be available to ensure project completion. Thursdays, June 8, June 22, July 13, July 27, August 10, and August 31, 4:30–6:30 pm, at the ZMA. Free for members. $15 for a yearly student museum membership for not-yet-members. Journey to the Netherlands, and discover the many works of portrait painter, Paulus Morseelse. Explore the ZMA galleries, and become inspired by the amazing variety of techniques and styles artists use in their portraits. Create your own original portrait painting of a favorite family member.

Discover the “magic realism” of Andrew Wyeth’s watercolor paintings. Become inspired by his ability to capture scenes from everyday life, and create your own watercolor masterpiece inspired by the world around you.

Admire the ZMA’s beautiful crescent stained glass window created right here in Zanesville by German-born Adolph Brown. Use a variety of colored paper to design and create your own vibrant stained glass window panel.

Become a ZMA Art Voyager, and begin your art adventure! Each month children in grades kindergarten through third will travel through history or explore the globe to learn about a different culture or a new art form. Create an exciting project, and receive a stamp in your Art Voyagers passport. Each stamp gets you one step closer to a secret treasure.
