introduction and key The key to this graphic novel is not only the story told by images, but the minor details you may overlook. The panels to the right display the correct emotions that correlate to how saturated the background is. The saturation of the background is the true representation of the mood during that moment. I.E. a colorful background represents satisfaction towards the moment, while a grey background may be represntative of disappointment or anger towards the project at hand. Another key to decoding this graphic novel is the length of each panels. Difficulty or struggle with projects may result in a wider panel. See if you can figure out any hidden keys that may be displayed in the overall layout of this graphic novel. Remember, don’t pay so much attention to the panels that you’re distracted from the background.
A saturated background represents happiness. This can be many emotions, including sunny, blithe, joyous, beatific, thrilled, elated, exhilarated, ecstatic, blissful, euphoric, overjoyed, exultant, rapturous, in seventh heaven, on cloud nine, walking on air, jumping for joy, jubilant, chirpy, over the moon, on top of the world, tickled pink, on a high, or as happy as a clam.
A mildly saturated background represnts indifference. Neither happy, nor sad, elated or enraged.
A nonsaturated background represents anger or sadness. There are many synonyms to follow, but perhaps it would be better just to remind you to not just read, but examine every page carefully.

I’d purposely take the evevator when the stairs were easily three times as quick. I would hit every stop light I could, just to gain an extra few seconds of time to myself. Of course, this couldn’t carry on all semester. Although it sounded like busy work at the time, this turned out to be one of my favorite project. After all, who doesn’t love trying to make sense of maps. If you hadn’t guessed already, the
idea behind the first project was to recreate a map of two of Knoxville’s busy streets, North Shore Dr. and Kingston Pike. My classmates and I were given limited data from a few minutes on this street. we were told the amount of traffic that passed through from from the north, south, east, and west. We were also told the amount of traffic that turned left or right from each direction. With this, the first project was underway.
