Reflexión Semanal

Weekly Reflection Our heavenly food

Comida del Cielo

Today we commemorate the most precious gift Jesus gave us before ascending into heaven - the Holy Eucharist. Mark’s gospel records the institution of the Holy Eucharist at the Last Supper when Jesus says, “Take it; this is my body«.This is my blood of the covenant which will be shed for many.” With these words Jesus made new the covenant Moses explains in today’s reading from Exodus. In the epistle, Saint Paul clarifies this point further, “Christ is mediator of a new covenant; since a death has taken place for deliverance from transgressions under the first covenant.” All of these scriptural references point to our redemption secured by Jesus’ Easter victory. The Prayer After Communion reminds us that Jesus intends that “we may delight for all eternity in that share in [his] divine life which is foreshadowed by our reception of [his] precious Body and Blood.” When we receive the Blessed Sacrament, we experience a glimpse of heaven. We are a pilgrim people sojourning in this world. Jesus invites us to receive his Body and Blood as often as we can so as to be strengthened during this journey. We look to the examples of the many saints such as Teresa of Avila, Padre Pio, and Francis of Assisi, who have spoken about the sublime joy they experienced when receiving the Holy Eucharist. These heavenly moments of joy are ours as well when we come to his table. We are ever thankful for the many moments of Eucharistic grace we have received. We look forward with deep gratitude to those which will sustain us until we fall into the arms of our heavenly Father.

For our final week of school we have many fun events planned for the children and their parents: On Monday, our annual Msgr Mulcahy Golf Tournament will be held at Saticoy Country Club. 8th graders take a trip to Disneyland while the entire school hosts a used uniform sale. On Tuesday, the 8th graders continue on a Retreat while the preschoolers have their End of the Year Ceremony. We'll bid farewell to the 8th graders, host a Graduation Luncheon and finish with a Graduation Mass/Ceremony, all on Wednesday. Then on Thursday, grades 1st through 7th enjoy Karma Day. This is a game day hosted by room parents. Finally, our last day is Friday, June 12th. We'll have a school liturgy, academic awards followed by an early dismissal day! Our school families wish our parish families a fun and safe summer! Preschool Summer Session is available for ages three thru five years of age, including children moving on to kindergarten. Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursdays, 9am to noon. Contact Susie Delaney at 642-7198 ext 213 for more information.

Envelopes are in the pews offering you an opportunity to support the Retirement Fund for Archdiocesan Priests. All parishes throughout the Archdiocese of Los Angeles are asked to give generously. Currently, the fund provides for more than 100 priests who are retried. Over the next ten years, that number is expected to increase significantly. With minimal compensation, and in many cases, no pension, these men often retire with nothing to fall back upon. Your contributions can change that. The Priest Retirement Fund offers us a way to give back to our Catholic priests who have served us so faithfully. Your contribution will help archdiocesan priests live modestly and peacefully in retirement. Help us offer thanks for their years of devotion to God, and faithful service to our parish communities. Please make checks payable to “Priests Retirement Fund”.

Did You Know?

Opportunity for Adult Faith Formation

You Can Help Children Know They are Understood

Are you looking for a way this summer to continue to grow deeper in your faith journey and relationship with God? Are you hoping for an experience of a small faith group, or are you considering becoming Catholic and receiving the sacraments of initiation? Then welcome to our summer Adult Faith Formation series hosted by the Women's & Men's Ministries and the RCIA team. For 6 successive Wednesday evenings beginning June 24 from 7:30-9:00 pm, these ministries will host and facilitate a series based on Fr. Albert Haase' book “Catching Fire, Becoming Flame”. Each evening will be centered on a 30 minute video created by Fr. Albert based on 6 themes from his book. We’ll then break into small groups, and enjoy some time for praise and worship. There will be no cost for this series, since it is hosted by members of our own parish. For this reason we ask all who are interested in attending to register with Kati Excallier (Kescallier@ola-vta.org - 642-7966 ext. 142) so we can be sure to plan according to the level of overall interest.

As parents, educators and volunteers, we want children to know that we are not only authority figures in their lives, but also people they can trust. To foster authentic trust with children, it is important that they know that you understand them. One of the simplest ways to do this is by repeating back what children are telling you. When you do this, you are affirming to the child that they are heard and understood. For complete VIRTUS® Article and more communication tips email: jvienna@laarchdiocese.org
