Increased Salinity near coastal areas -Salt from the sea is carried over inland through the medium of winds, alluvial and rain movements -Water seepage into the ground can increase water table, that would effectively deposits the water table’s salt content onto the ground, devastating the ability for vegetation to thrive (Salinity 2011)
Absence of Human pavement for a recreational site To maintain the large complex dune system, protection of the nearby vegetation of indigenous species (To protect against Natural and Human activities) and the exclusion of all Human activities that might otherwise jeopardize the dune system are separated through fencing. (PP62. Seaford Parallel Dunes 2011)

Stop.2Revegetation Area GPS location: 0335648 5780915 Soil type: Sedimentary Soil: Dark grey sand over clay Soil pH value: Soil Salinity value: 0.13
Soil Characteristics: -Black to dark grey sand with a lot of organic matter, grading into light grey sand as the top soil -Overlaps a brown, red and gray mottled clay -Poor in plant nutrients -Acidic soil -Clay subsoil impeding drainage -Topsoil easily worked whether dry, moist or wet -Non-sticky -In winter, perched water table may occur above the clay, affecting drainage ability Horizon differentiation: 0-30 cm Black to dark grey sand 30-50 cm Light grey sand, with slight yellowbrown mottling and a concentration of ‘buckshot’ (small iron stones) at depth, abruptly overlying 50-150+cm Brown, red and grey, mottled compact clay, strongly weathered (Graaff & Wootton 2011)
Dead trees -Might have been the result of an overwhelming force of wind or a storm, as the place is literally behind the foreshore, it is extremely prone to wind and weathering forces of nature. Low salinity -Due to the hard chunks of dry mud formed with the moist content that was probably due to the overshadowing of tall and abundance of trees, we couldn’t get the Salinity meter deep into the soil, we predict the value should be higher. Drainage problem both internal and external
Actual Observation: -Black to dark grey sand and soil as the top soil -Extremely rigid and hard soil when moist or wet (Molded into hard wet/moist chunks) -Mud sticky
