Nam Van Lake Tour Bus Parking Renovation
Individual work
2021.10-12
The design site is the Nam Van Lake parking located on the main island of Macau. The site is bordered by Nam Van Lake, One Square and the Legislative Assembly to the north, the Macau Tower to the west, the Avalokiteśvara Statue to the east and Praia Grande Bay to the south. The design is for two sites of 16.5 hectares and 15 hectares respectively. It transforms them into a coastal park suitable for the citizens and visitors to Macau. The application of spatial layout, ecological restoration, urban agriculture and smart urban design strategies provide a place for Macau residents to gather during holidays, walks after dinners and play sports, and create an urban landmark of public space. At the same time, the wetlands within the site provide habitat for the black-faced spoonbill, a globally endangered species.
Public areas Hotels
Residential areas
There are more public areas and hotels near the site, and a few residential areas
The whole site is surrounded by water
This is a waterfront site and there are more viewpoints near the shopping mall and Macau Tower
Greening
The green area in the site is too sparse, and most of the ground is hard paved
Primary road
The traffic outside the site is convenient, but the road inside is complicated and inconvenient
The site has no lighting problems with the street lights; there are more fences; the left plot includes more manhole covers
STATUS OF THE SITE Surrounding buildings
The area is the Nam Van Lake Tour Bus Parking, located near Nam Van Lake on Macau's main island. The site is surrounded by the Macau Tower, a landmark of Macau, and the plaza surrounding the Tower. The square will host the Macau Food Festival during November and also serve as a viewing platform to gather people to watch the fireworks. It is surrounded by large shopping centers and residential areas, 80% of which are older residential buildings mostly occupied by elderly people.
Function
The site is used primarily as a public transportation parking lot with two-thirds of the space for unused buses. A small portion is private and is used as a warehouse for the Macau Circuit. These bus parking lots and private areas are guarded by securities and no pedestrians are allowed inside. There are no recreational facilities, which is monotonous and uninteresting. No pedestrians come in for leisure and relaxation.
Environment
The entire site is located in the parking lot across from Nam Van Lake. Most of the greenery is fenced off and unkept, which looks messy and seriously affects the aesthetics. Some construction parts are stacked randomly on the roadside. They have sharp corners, easy to hurt the human body, adding a certain risk factor. The signage of the site is worn out with serious scratch marks. During our research, we have found that there is a lot of garbage scattered everywhere, even floating on the sea surface.
