Pyramid panels with small triangular- shape openings created by weavebird define a boundary between exterior and interior. The small triangular-shape openings working as thresholds allow light to come into interior space from different a direction, which creates interesting shadows in the interior space.
A hollow waffle structure creates an interior volume. Moreover, the in-between spaces of hollow structure also can be used.
Small triangular shapes on the 2D surfaces are designed to let the light come into the interior space and create interesting shadows.
Panels are bigger at the bottom and top parts of the surface. I use the ‘tripartite method’ on modern architecture to divide the whole building into three parts: top, middle, bottom. Enlarging the top and bottom parts can increase the size of openings at the bottom and top, which lets people enjoy better view.

Generate waffle structure between two surfaces.
Process 1: Creating Laser cut lines and arranging them in template
Waffle Structure Material: 1mm mount board
Two Surfaces Panels Material: 290gsm Ivory Card
Process 2: Folding panels and creating waffle structures
I use knife to fix the edges of the triangular shapes openings and then fold the panels. Different panels are connected with tabs and fixed by UHU GLUE.
Process 3: Fixing panels and waffle structures together
13
Sometimes the panels are broken from etches, so I use transparent tapes to fix them on the back side of ivory card.

Two small holes on the top that created by ‘Boolean Difference’ work as skylights.
In the middle, the cube is trimmed by two intersected spheres, and then the middle courtyard is created. The middle courtyard works as a gathering space and main circulation area.
The octahedrons on both sides create some openings for the level 2 and level3 private spaces and courtyard of ground level.

At the beginning, I only use platonic octahedrons in lunchbox to create some opening and some small spaces. When I got my 3d print model I found that using the sphere as well to create larger space for circulation works better.I choose 25% of the whole model to represent a 2 stories pavilion with a big open courtyard in the middle. Two small holes on the top that created by ‘Boolean Difference’ work as skylights. The octahedrons in the corner touch the middle spheres to create an entrance between middle courtyard and space on both sides. The octahedron in the right corner touches the surface and creates an entrance.

+ The topography is designed to integrate with the pavilion, which offers a possibility for people to access the central part of the enneper canopy and the seminar place on upper level.
The enneper surface works as a floor plane for upper level and a roof for the underground part.
The panels made by steel frame are designed to be thresholds that allow light to come through and create interesting shadows in the interior space; at night, it allows the light in the interior space to come out and show the patterns.
The glass panels with steel frame are used in the underground concert place to allow people to enjoy the concert from outside. The enclosure space formed by the glass panels is also designed to capture the sound of the musical quartet.
The pavilion is inserted to the topography to get a bench in the interior space for people to sit and enjoy the concert.
The steel frames in the underground part hold the glass panels and also help to support the canopy.

The concrete finish in the underground part is designed to define the boundary between pavilion and ground.

SITE ANALYSIS DIAGRAM (1:200)
The orientation of this pavilion is arranged according to the sun path and wind direction. To make sure the underground theatre could get a certain enclosed atmosphere and not be disturbed by the daylight, and I use topography to block the sun light to achieve this. Based on the wind analysis, I rotated the pavilion to block the wind and weaken the wind.

connection definition
The pavilion is formed by 3 parts: the spiral volume, the Enneper surface, the spiral connection. The connection is generated from the flat part of the Enneper surface. The enneper surface works as a floor plane for upper level and a roof for the underground part. The panels made by steel frame are designed to be thresholds that allow light to come through and create interesting shadows in the interior space; at night, it allows the light in the interior space to come out and show the patterns.
