Question 1: What is Pictorial Space according to Le Corbusier? (Maximum 100 words) According to Le Corbusier Pictorial Space’ Is that which cannot be entered or circulated through; It is irrmediably space viewed form a distance, and is therefore elemally resigned to frontality.(Leger, Le Corbuiser and Purism, Krauss, Rosalind 1972.) Frontal or flat space viewed from distance that which can not be entered or circulated through.

Question 2: The Flatness of Le Corbusier’s painting’s are attributable to two properties. What are they? And what are these pitted against?(Maximum 100 words) They are Extension and mariage de contour. They reject black and use white to have a contrast and use texture .In Le Corbusier’s painting their flatness is characterised by their frontality and rotation. And the closing of distance between the concept of frontalization and their grounds against texture affected the imagery of depth, it is believed that these attribute to flatness of his work, these two elements are generally pitted against black in order to demonstrate contrasting visuals.

MARIO’S WORLD

1ST MARIO’S WORLD

First hand drawing projection of 2D Mario world , each line was drawn up and placed on the axonometric plane.

COMBINED MARIO’S WORLD

I used 0.1 fineliner to trace the 2H pencil lines and 0.4 fineliner to trace the outline. The two worlds have been projected onto the same 20*20 plane.

WEEK 4 READING: TITLE OF READING Complete your reading before attempting these questions:

Question 1: Explain the difference between Pictoral (in this case perspectival) space and Projection? (Maximum 100 words) Pictorial space : Distorts(human eyes) Parallel lines vanishing Pictorial space is a single point of view with freeze time and motion. And the creation of the pictorial space is quite limited, in that it is restrained to the medium and can not fully creat the notion of 3D space in relation to the human ability to see place. Projection: Measure No vanishing& no distortion. Projection constructs a new view on a 2d plane enabling the viewer to better understand the space, which is a construction of depth through rational means.

Question 2: Where did Axonometric projection first arise, and why? (Maximum 100 words) In a military context where it ways originally used to chart the three dimensional trajectories of artillery projectiles. In history the drawings were first created for millitary purposes to map out fortifications and ballistics, but it later lead to modernist architects and artists to popularise the method. The term axonometric first arose in the works of Lissizky which pushed the boundaries of 3D construction methods. It could be used to transmit abstract information and it was measurable and precise, which pushed the boundaries of perspective to allow artists more creative freedoms to illustrate creative worlds.

ILLUSTRATED MARIO’S NEW WORLD

I used my imagination to combine the sea mario world and the land mario world together. In the top world, I set up some barriers for mario just like the scene in the real game. And I think the highlight of the top world is I designed a wave bridge to keep consistent. In the bottom world, I added some lively characters and a special silk boat into it.

The final completed, illustrated, colured and detail axonometric. With characters and new landscape inspired from the original game.

APPENDIX

Setting up of the drawing equipments

Working process of the first axonometricww

These images and photos show my process of turning the 2D images into 3D projections and the setting up of my drawing equipments, including T-square, set square, pencils(2H&2B&4H&4B), fineliners(0.1&0.4), tracing paper(A3). I drew the mario world projection in A3 tracing paper, using the same method as the moudule 1 used.
