FROM THE

It’s November everyone! That means in exactly one month from the publishing date of this issue is Taylor’s 30th birthday! I will be taking birthday messages pretty soon for the December issue, so please be on the lookout for that! I am sorry for being so inactive on social media lately. I have had many people express their concern, which is so sweet. But, just to let you all know, there is nothing overly wrong going on in my life causing me to be so inactive. I just get busy working full time and just with everyday life in general. I’ve just been tired a lot lately, causing me to disance myself from social media. Honestly, it’s good for everyone to take a break every WWW.ISSUU.COM/ZINETHIRTEEN

now and then. I do recommend it. Although I may not post a lot, that doesn’t mean that the magazine isn’t going to be uploaded! I strive to make sure that this magazine gets posted every single month, even if it is a smaller issue. Thank you to everyone who has been so understanding of my lack of activity. You guys are wonderful and it means a lot that you stick around, even with my minimal posting. Anyway, this month we take a look into quite a few social media photos that Taylor has posted. She was feeding us with somany adorable photos that I couldn’t even handle it! I am also excited that Taylor will be awarded with Artist of the

Decade at the AMAs this year. What an absolute honor! Which is also very much deserved. She is truly so talented and works so hard for everything that she has done in life. I can’t wait to watch her and hear her acceptance speech. She always has such beautiful words to say. Hope you all enjoy this month’s issue! I look forward to your responses. :)

Stay Beautiful, Tanya

AMAS Taylor Swift to Be Honored with Artist of the Decade Award at AMAs CBS NEWS

CAITLIN O’KANE

10.31.19

Taylor Swift is riding high after the release of her seventh studio album, “Lover,” this summer. The album went platinum and Swift is now nominated for five American Music Awards. But about a month before the awards show airs, the AMAs announced she’ll be honored as Artist of the Decade. The awards show announced on Instagram that since Swift has won more AMAs than any other artist in the last 10 years, she was a natural choice for the prestigious award. This year, she’s also nominated for favorite adult contemporary artist, favorite female artist, and artist of the year. Her music video for the hit single “You Need to Calm Down” is nominated for favorite music video. And “Lover,” which has spawned three singles so far, is nominated for favorite pop/rock album. Swift is up against Billie Eilish and Ariana Grande in two categories, favorite female artist and favorite pop/rock album. Over the past decade, Swift has accomplished — and endured — a lot. It was 10 years ago that Kanye West jumped up on stage during the VMAs and proclaimed that Swift did not deserve video of the year, Beyoncé did. This kicked off a decade-long feud with West and his wife,

Kim Kardashian. During this time, Swift released five albums and countless songs about breakups, friendships and, of course, the Wests. And she won 10 Grammys. She also took home a whopping 23 AMAs since 2009, and has only lost five that she

ZINE THIRTEEN ISSUE 28 NOVEMBER 2019

was nominated for. Last year, she won all four AMAs she was nominated for, including artist of the year and tour of the year. In fact, over the past decade of AMAs, she won artist of the year five times — this year could be her sixth, or she could just settle for artist of the whole entire

decade. The only other artist to receive the honorary award was Garth Brooks, who won for the 1990s in 2000. The AMAs also announced Swift will be performing during the show on November 24. WWW.ISSUU.COM/ZINETHIRTEEN

MUSIC WEEK ‘I Come With Opinions on How We Can Better Our Industry’: Taylor Swift Talks Business in the Music Week Interview MUSIC WEEK

MARK SUTHERLAND 11.04.19

Taylor Swift has spoken exclusively to Music Week about the benefits of her groundbreaking new record deal. In a brand new interview that sees Swift appear on the front cover of our new print edition, the superstar discusses all aspects of her music and her business empire, as well as the leading role she is playing as an advocate of artists’ and songwriters’ rights. Those rights were top of mind when Swift decided to leave Big Machine, home to her first six albums, and sign a ground-breaking new deal with Universal’s Republic Records last year. The resulting contract includes clauses not only guaranteeing the star ownership of her future masters, but also ensuring Universal will share the spoils of its Spotify shares with its artists, without any payments counting against unrecouped balances. “That’s important to me because that means they’re adopting some of my ideas,” said Swift. “If they take me on as an artist that means they really thought it through. Because with me, come opinions about how we can better our industry. “I’m one of the only people in the artist realm who can be loud about it,” she added. “People WWW.ISSUU.COM/ZINETHIRTEEN

who are on their fifth, sixth or seventh album, we’re the only ones who can speak out, because new artists and producers and writers need to work. They need to be endearing and likeable and available to their labels and streaming services at all times. It’s up to the artists who have been around for a second to say, ‘Hey guys, the producers and the writers and the artists are the ones who are making music what it is’. And we’re in a great place in music right now thanks to them.” Swift’s Lover album – which became the fastest-selling album in the United States since her own Reputation, moving 867,000 copies in its first week – is perhaps her most versatile and critically-acclaimed record to date. And Swift said her music

had benefitted from the creative freedom granted to her under the Republic deal. “In my previous situation, there were creative constraints, issues that we had over the years,” she said. “I’ve always given 100% to projects, I always over-delivered, thinking that that generosity would be returned to me. But I ended up finding that generosity in a new situation with a new label that understands that I deserve to own what I make. “That meant so much to me because it was given over to me so freely,” she added. “When someone just looks at you and says ‘Yes, you deserve what you want’, after a decade or more of being told, ‘I’m not sure you deserve what you want’ – there’s a freedom that comes with that.

It’s like when people find ‘the one’ they’re like, ‘It was easy, I just knew and I felt free’. And that made me feel I could make an album that was exactly what I wanted to make.” Since Swift signed the Republic deal, Big Machine has been sold to Scooter Braun’s Ithaca Holdings, a move denounced by Swift as her “worst-case scenario”. In the full interview, Swift explains why she spoke out – as well as talking songwriting, the future of the album and how her views on music streaming have evolved. *To read the full interview pick up a printed copy of Music Week or subscribe online!

JAM FEST Taylor Swift Announces Free Atlanta Concert During March Madness ROLLING STONE

DANIEL KREPS

11.07.19

Taylor Swift has announced her first non-Lover Fest gig in 2020, a free concert in Atlanta set around the NCAA March Madness tournament. Swift will headline the Capital One JamFest on April 5th, 2020 at Atlanta’s Centennial Olympic Park, an event that also marks the final day of the March Madness Music Festival. “We’re thrilled to have Taylor Swift perform as the headliner for the closing night of the March Madness Music Festival,” NCAA Senior Vice President of Basketball Dan Gavitt said in a statement. “This will be one of many great events for fans during Final Four weekend, from the opening of Final Four Fan Fest presented by Capital One on Friday morning, through the semifinals to the National Championship celebration on Monday night.” As Capitol One noted in a statement, the Swift concert will be a free event for fans, although ticketing details were not yet revealed. “Over the years, Capitol One has brought some of the most iconic artists in music to perform at Capitol One JamFest, and we could not be more excited to have Taylor Swift, one of the most successful artists in history, headline this event in 2020 and the unique opportunity to offer this to fans for free,”

Capital One’s Byron Daub said in a statement. Additional performers for Capital One JamFest — which in the past has featured headliners like Bruce Springsteen, Maroon 5, Katy Perry and Sting — will be announced in the coming months. In September, Swift revealed

ZINE THIRTEEN ISSUE 28 NOVEMBER 2019

she would stage a pair of twoday stadium concerts — dubbed Love Fest West and Lover Fest East — in 2020 in support of her new album Lover. Both fests — July 25th and July 26th at Los Angeles’ new NFL venue SoFi Stadium and Foxborough, Massachusetts’ Gillette Stadium on July 31st and August 1st —

have sold out. Although the Lover Fests were billed as Swift’s lone standalone concerts of 2020, the singer did state that she would be announcing festival appearances in the U.S. and overseas, paving the way for the Capitol One JamFest headlining gig. WWW.ISSUU.COM/ZINETHIRTEEN

LOVER WEDDING Swiftie Who Threw ‘Lover’-Themed Wedding Can’t Believe Taylor Noticed: ‘It Was a Huge Deal’ BILLBOARD

GIL KAUFMAN

11.07.19

Erin Seeherman thought of everything when it came to her Lover-themed wedding, which paid homage to the very important part Taylor Swift has played in her love story. But the one thing she never considered was that Swift herself would notice. “It was a huge deal,” Seeherman tells Billboard about Taylor tweeting out a congratulations to the Philadelphia-based sex therapist and her husband Moshe Berman, after the two recently tied the knot in an event that was Swiftinspired from top-to-bottom. Seeherman, who, not for nothing, pays homage to Taylor twice in her Twitter handle, says she was driving home from work on Wednesday (Nov. 6) listening to music in her car when the bluetooth signal kept getting interrupted by so many message alerts that she had to set her phone to silent. But then two of her fellow Swiftie friends who were at her wedding called at the same time and she knew something was up. “I pulled over, because safety first, and that’s when I found out,” she says. “I was really shocked. I never expected her to notice the efforts we had gone to. All the effort we put WWW.ISSUU.COM/ZINETHIRTEEN

into the wedding we would have done regardless of whether we thought she might notice because we -- my husband now too identifies as a huge Taylor Swift fan -- are such huge fans so we were happy and excited to do this, but never really had that expectation that anything would come of it or that we would get noticed.”

Seeherman says she’s “incredibly grateful” that Swift takes the time she does to interact with her fans, something she thinks really separates the singer from other artists: “She’s so personable, and approachable and seems so kind and generous with her time and attention to the people who love her and support her career.”

While Seeherman says Swift has “always” been a silent player in the couple’s relationship timeline, the fact that she blessed their blessed event was more than they could have hoped for. The couple met in September 2016 at the tail end of Swift’s tour in support of the 1989 continued on pg 12

album, when Seeherman was in the midst of preparing her “epic” 1989-themed Halloween costume, which matched Taylor’s “Welcome to New York” outfit from that tour. “I put a lot of time and attention into that and we had just met around that time and he was totally into it,” she says of her then-boyfriend’s emerging Swift-itude. “He said, ‘let’s go to the hardward store and I’ll make a light-up microphone for you.’

He knew what a huge fan I was and he ended up being a huge fan too.” Berman, who works for the District Attorney’s office in Philadelphia, was so on board that he bought a guitar and learned how to play Swift’s songs and a year after they began dating he joked that he wanted to propose at one of Taylor’s concerts. He didn’t know she was going to hold him to that promise, though. “We thought we have to plan the wedding after this, it seems so

ZINE THIRTEEN ISSUE 28 NOVEMBER 2019

on-brand for us,” she laughs. They did indeed get engaged on July 13, 2018, at a show during the Reputation Tour, and though their wedding planning began before Swift revealed details about the Lover era, like any good Swifties, they started gleaning hints about the record’s aesthetic from Taylor’s legendary Easter egss as they put their reception plan together. Seeherman says the event program matched the Lover album cover, with lyrics on the

inside, with an elaborate flower wall to match the designs at recent Swift performances, rainbow-colored flower arrangements to mimic the album’s cover theme, a guitar on display and placecards that featured origami paper rings, of course, with paper butterflies attached. The bride also wore big, sparkly heart-shaped earrings, and the couple served signature cocktails in Loverappropriate blue and pink with names such as “False God” and “London Boy,” which their guests hoisted as the couple had their first dance to “Lover” and played “many hours” of Taylor tracks from throughout her career during the the prelude, dinner and reception. For the record, their parents were “100%” on-board with the theme. “This was obviously not my parents’ first rodeo with me...they know when I’m passionate about something I go all in and I do my best to create something that is atmospheric, fun and I think they were expecting nothing less than a lot of sparkles and sequins and colors,” she says. Getting a Twitter tap from Taylor is one thing, but what if Seeherman ever met Swift? “There’s a lot I would like to thank her for,” she says. “She has been a huge inspiration to me in a multitude of ways and her music has been a constant presence throughout many stages of personal growth and life transitions.” And, for the record, Erin would love to grab a glass of Pinot or Sauvignon Blanc with TS if she’s game. WE ARE SWIFTIES Swiftie Recreates One of Taylor’s Favorite Recipes ZINETHIRTEEN

CASUALLYCRUELSWIFTY 11.12.19 I’m not very into cooking, but when Taylor listed her alltime favorite recipes in the Elle Magazine article, “30 Things I Learned Before Turning 30” written by Taylor herself, I did my research, made a grocery list, and hopped in the car with my mom to go get all the ingredients from Publix for Taylor’s chicken fajitas with mole sauce. We chose to buy pre-made mole sauce rather than make it ourselves. My mom and I shared a really special moment as well when we started cooking. We agreed that we had to listen to Taylor while we cooked, so we put my playlist on shuffle -- and the very first song that came on was The Best Day - which I had learned on the ukulele for my mom for Mother’s Day. It was really special to her, especially because she knows I don’t like cooking, that we were sharing this moment. You posts
