recognizing Japan’s role as a key country within the global economies and Tokyo as the heart of Japan’s presence. the global scale relates to setting the tone and identity of Tokyo’s image as imagined by foreigners. the image of the site presents the first step to the understanding of Tokyo as a global city, and its identity within the context of the world.

tokyo’s economy centers on its ability to provide consistent and reliable movement of 3.68 million people per day via public transportation. at this scale, an intervention is needed to unite/collapse these separated local, regional, and global transportation systems (rail, water, air) into a networked corridor. the overlap of these functions will be the catalyst for future space-making.
