The highs and lows of puppy ownership
Perfect human/dog partnerships
The dog cloning roadshow comes to town
There’s chaos, confusion, tears and laughter as six families take the life-changing decision to adopt a young dog.
The popular first film saw the birth of a litter of puppies. One year on, they’re fully trained and ready to become guide dogs for the blind.
Only a newborn baby is more demanding, exhausting and expensive than a puppy, yet many families rush into dog ownership with very little thought. As a result, 30% of dogs were abandoned in the first three months of 2013. This emotional two-part documentary follows six new doggie parents during their first year together. From super-cute cuddling on the sofa and playing ball in the park, to rain-soaked walks and toilet accidents, the real-life stories are backed up by fascinating factual content explaining the science of puppy development and training. A cautionary tale, it educates and ultimately celebrates the joy that puppies bring to millions of people.
After being raised by ‘puppy walker’ volunteers for the first year of their lives, we find out what happens to Kylie, Kiera, Kirby, Korky, Keith, Kerry, Kola, Klodo, Keegan and Kez. One will be trained as a ‘canine partner’ to help a disabled owner with basic household tasks. Another will be trained as a ‘buddy dog’ to help autistic children. However, most of our pups make the grade as guide dogs. We see them beginning life-changing partnerships with their new owners and hear the moving stories of other guide dog partnerships including 15-yearold Hannah, radio DJ Jill and former British Home Secretary David Blunkett. We also travel to the USA to meet Mona and her guide Cali, a guide horse.

The possibility attracts puppy lovers from across the land, and whips up a media frenzy. With exclusive access to the boardroom, the world’s only five-star puppy maternity ward and birthing rooms, this film shows the nationwide road trip and judging process. Emotionally charged videos are scrutinised. The Koreans meet those on their shortlist. Hard questions are asked. Who will win the heart of the cloners? Who will win a new dog just like their old dog?

Couples getting married behind bars
You only get one prom!
Traditional early teen marriages
The stories of people tying the knot in prison… with the groom in handcuffs or the bride wearing overalls, can it still be a dream wedding?
A glitzy phenomenon imported from America, the school prom is the most glamorous night of most British teenagers’ lives… and a major expense for their parents.
Marriage under the age of 16 is illegal in the UK, but this film shows that for some Roma Gypsies the custom is very much alive.
Your wedding day is supposed to be the happiest day of your life, but certain traditions must be sacrificed when your other half is incarcerated. This extraordinary film invites us to share in their big day. Fighting through a minefield of prison regulations, choosing the right dress (no tight or revealing clothing!), passing through an x-ray machine before walking down the aisle, and kissing, for the first time as man and wife, through protective glass. In California, Nancy is going against her family’s wishes by marrying her fiancé Anthony. In Texas, Ann is counting down to her inmate husband’s release. It will be their first day together on the outside.
Prom is a rite of passage. It’s a celebration of years of hard work at school, of young people becoming adults. On prom night the magic begins as princes and princesses emerge from ordinary suburban homes. But behind the excitement, there is teenage angst. It’s ultra competitive. How you arrive, what you wear and who you’re with can mean the difference between prom heaven and hell. This documentary follows teenagers from schools in Yorkshire and Nottinghamshire as they spend fortunes on clothes, makeovers and limousines. The preparations are carried out in secret because prom night is all about the big reveal. The following day, the fairytale is over and real life begins. Key Facts:
• Highest rated factual entertainment programme of the day on Channel 5

Because they weren’t married or prepared for the unexpected, Shane lost all legal claim to him. Tom’s family banned him from the funeral so he couldn’t even say goodbye. This painful experience drove him to create the YouTube video “It Could Happen to You”. Showing what can happen when two people are legally barred from having equal rights to marry, it immediately went viral. Shane soon found himself being interviewed by Cher and Whoopi. A TV first, this pioneering documentary takes us inside a nursery where 10 young children share and play nicely… sometimes! Experts in developmental psychology and neuroscience create safe environments in which we observe a hidden world of laughter, tears, tussles and whispers. Viewers will fall in love with the largerthan-life characters – Chiam, Luke, Christian, Jessica and Skyla – scientific analysis and experiments are interweaved into the unfolding actuality. We also see them at home and six months on they all meet again. How will they change during this most pivotal year? Will the same friendships and feuds continue? Thought-provoking, entertaining and genuinely surprising, this is the utterly compelling Secret Life Of 4 Year Olds.
This thoughtful and sensitive film explores the cutting-edge preventative treatments designed to help kids showing severe disruptive or aggressive behaviour traits. With an estimated 10% of young people in the US suffering from serious behavioural problems, society is putting parents and teachers under immense pressure to deal with these ‘bad’ children. Recent advances in psychology mean that, even in difficult cases, there is the potential to address their relentless progression towards extreme antisocial behaviour. Working closely with institutions at the forefront of intervention, we spend time with troubled children and teens at home and at the treatment centre. Labelling kids negatively can be self-fulfilling but, with their families at crisis point, these treatments offer the best hope of altering their devastating trajectories.

The start of life
Tackling Britain’s child health crisis
Blogs and websites which glorify self harm
Follow the lifesaving work of doctors and nurses at the Liverpool Women’s Hospital Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, which treats 1,200 babies a year.
With unique access inside three organisations on the frontline of the war on childhood obesity and preventable illnesses, this is the story of what’s going wrong with our children’s health’.
Highlighting the soaring rates of eating disorders and self harm among young people, this film explores the internet… where they go to share their secrets.
Across Britain, the number of children with serious but entirely preventable health problems is spiralling. They eat too much. They don’t clean their teeth. They never exercise. For the first time in centuries many could die at a younger age than their parents. In Leeds, a quarter of all youngsters under the age of five have tooth decay and a third are obese. We follow the frustrated professionals at General Infirmary as they tackle this modern epidemic and meet the anxious parents on the frontline of a health disaster. Working hard to embrace a healthier lifestyle, we see families making big changes to help their kids get better.
Thousands of blogs and websites have emerged which encourage users to compete in weight loss and glorify self harm. They include images of emaciated bodies alongside tips on how to make yourself vomit and hide scars. In this intense, intimate and revealing film we hear from teenagers who’ve been sucked into this chilling online world. Through insightful and unflinching testimonies we hear how they became trapped in a cycle of self-hatred and self-punishment, doing unimaginable damage to their bodies. Some are taking the painful steps to recovery. Others are still compulsively logging-on. We also hear from the family of 13-year-old girl who killed herself after becoming involved with pro-self harm websites.
Liverpool Women’s is a recognised centre of excellence for neonatal care, providing care for babies born prematurely, with low weight or lifethreatening conditions. Thanks to groundbreaking medical procedures, survival rates have increased dramatically. This four-part access-based series highlights key cases with a particular emphasis on the parents, staff and, of course, the babies. The nature of treatment ranges from emergency intervention to long-term care. For parents who had been anticipating a healthy child, it is a terribly difficult time. The tiny patients can stay in the ward for several months before they are allowed to go home. As nurse Vivian Carr says: “They’re not ours, we’ve only got them on loan.”

Get behind the wheel with some of the UK’s 191 registered centenarian drivers. Are they still roadworthy despite their advanced age?
This adrenaline-fuelled documentary series follows biker cops and paramedics as they race to save and protect lives.
This brave documentary shines a light on the excuses given for the lack of schooling available to young girls around the world.
Meet Britain’s oldest drivers. Witty and likable, they represent a growing sector of society: elderly men and women maintaining their independence thanks to their cars. They had to re-apply for their licence at the age of 70, and every three years thereafter, but they don’t have to undergo any kind of test. 100 year-old Mary is ‘a bit of a speedster’, while 102 year-old Searson spent years riding motorbikes, performing the famous ‘globe of death’ stunt. They might have less-than-lightning reflexes, yet statistics show older drivers cause fewer accidents than their younger counterparts. What do they think about driving in Britain today?
These are the heroes on the frontline, the ones who weave through some of the most congested roads in the world to get help where it’s most needed – fast. The minute they’re on scene, we’re right there with them. Crashes, cardiac arrests, car chases, drugs overdoses, assaults – this is high octane stuff. But Emergency Bikers also reveals their caring and compassionate side helping the elderly and homeless. As well as being followed by a camera crew, the biker paramedics are kitted out with high tech body cameras and motorcyclemounted filming equipment to capture gripping first-hand footage.

Carrying cocaine to the world
Nine Lives for Crime & Investigation Channel (2009-2014)
With unprecedented access to both smugglers and law enforcement agencies, this is a unique insight into the global war on drugs.
Dramatic retellings of horrific cases
Peru has recently overtaken Colombia to become the biggest cocaine producer and smuggler in the world. Every day, huge quantities of the drug are carried across international borders. The arrest of two British girls in early 2014 put the issue of female drugs mules firmly in the spotlight. This film interviews a ‘catcher’, a man who grooms girls to become mules, a ‘packer’, who is filmed preparing a case with kilos of cocaine, and former mules, who describe the experience of being groomed and smuggling. On the other side, we follow Inspector Cano, of the elite Scorpion anti-drug unit, as he seizes a cocaine-filled yacht bound for Southampton – and tracks down a Jamaican organisation, only to be thwarted by corrupt officials who warn off the smugglers.
The ratings-winning drama-documentary returns with more shocking contemporary British crimes and the police investigations that followed. The fifth series of Nightmare In Suburbia continues the successful ‘who done it’ formula, giving a factual account of a terrible crime and detailing how detectives went about solving it. Individually titled episodes feature interviews with both the investigating officers and members of the victim’s family, as well as archive material from the case and dramatic reconstructions. Love, Greed & Betrayal explores how a married father of three repeatedly tried to kill his parents. Checklist For Murder tells the story of a lonely divorcee betrayed by a friend for her fortune. The Babysitter & the Cyber Killer reveals the complex evil social network created to groom a 19-year-old woman, which led directly to her savage murder.

Young guns having some fun A jaw-dropping character-led documentary following American families who are passionate about firearms and believe their children are safer armed. Provocative and explosive, this film follows American parents who love guns and want their kids to be the same. It explores the many reasons why they believe learning to shoot is important. For some, the motivation is self-defence, for others it is a basic constitutional right. There is a long tradition of families going hunting together simply because it’s fun. For these gun lovers, firearms are part of everyday life. We see a happy four year-old receiving a gun for her birthday… it’s bigger than she is! We also consider the implications of these choices. Is arming their children their American duty or a potentially deadly mistake? Reviews: “An impressively even-handed look at America’s young guns” The Independent “Excellent documentary... measured and objective” The Guardian

Visiting some of the most remote and breathtakingly beautiful places on Earth, Kayden is on a mission to highlight the positive role that the bicycle can play in the battle against climate change. Kayden’s inspiration stemmed after the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa left a carbon footprint that would take 13.5m trees and three years to offset. Kayden is proffering the loss one kilometer at a time. He has already clockedup over 41,000km across Africa, Asia, Europe and Australia. Now, he’s on a 20,000km carbonfree journey of a lifetime, from Argentina to the Nevada Desert. Why? “Because the world’s a cooler place with more trees.”

Epic trial bike stunts From gravity-defying tricks to injuries and punctures, this film captures the creativity, craftsmanship and teamwork behind Danny MacAskill’s hit trial bike videos.
Set against the majestic backdrop of the Cuillins, a craggy mountain range on the beautiful Isle of Skye, we see exactly what it takes to make a world-class trial bike video. For starters there’s the logistics of transporting tons of bike and camera kit 3,000ft up the treacherous ridge. Then come the technicalities of how best to shoot the ‘lines’ Danny wants to ride. Above all, the team must balance very real safety concerns with the desire to make a film full of ‘bangers’ – bunny hops, wheelies and jumps – that will thrill the international biking community. The film concludes by showing the finished viral video in all its glory.

Computer scientist Professor Dave Cliff takes us on a mind-expanding trip into the realm of logic and reason.
A fascinating quest to carry out DNA profiling on the most famous people of all time. Genetics and biochemistry can tell us a lot about a person’s physical, mental and behavioural traits. From Abraham Lincoln to Adolf Hitler, Marilyn Monroe to Marlon Brando, this show provides astounding insights into the lives and deaths of legendary figures. It also considers the mind-blowing issues surrounding this controversial science. Do we really want a production line of John Lennons?
With wit, wisdom and gleeful nerdery, the award-winning team behind The Joy Of Stats are back, this time uncovering the fundamentals of reasoning. How does logic underpin our modern digital world? Sharp and exuberant professor, Dave Cliff, travels to Vienna to explain how an “almost exquisite paradox” inspired the father of the modern computer, Alan Turing. He also creates a computer using 25 seven year-olds, meets the world’s brainiest whizz-kids and interrogates some of logic’s biggest brains about the future of humanity. Will tomorrow’s computers be smarter than us? From Aristotle to Alice in Wonderland, sci-fi to supercomputers, this show lifts the lid on mathematics and philosophy.

Paris Revealed: The Magical Rive Gauche 1 x 60’ Éléphant Doc for France 5 (2014)
The intellectual and romantic heart of Paris This film by Laurent Lefebvre explores the unique charm of the Saint-Germain-des-Prés, Luxembourg, Montparnasse area, historically the meeting place for intellectuals, artists, musicians and students. Directed by Katia Chapoutier, this film documents the renovation of luxury hotel Plaza Athénée, which houses a fashionable gastronomic restaurant frequented by the rich and famous. Not far away is the bohemian Paris of poets and painters, where Picasso lived and where Lenin planned his revolution. From the Jardin du Luxembourg, the most beautiful garden in Paris, to the jazz clubs and nightclubs of Saint-Michel and the Quartier Latin, we meet people who share a passion for the area, who keep the ‘Rive Gauche Spirit’ alive. Highlights include the medieval abbey of Saint-Germain-des-Prés and The Observatory, where the rings of Saturn were discovered. Located on Avenue Montaigne, near the Champs-Élysées and the Eiffel Tower, Plaza Athénée needs an overhaul to stay ahead in the fiercely competitive hotel industry. Closing for nine months, the plan is to dramatically extend it, building 17 new suites and rethinking the restaurant and its menu. Restaurant owner Alain Ducasse is determined to pioneer new cooking trends. He’s struck a deal with the Palace of Versailles to grow rare and ancient vegetables. The headwaiter, Werner, is one fixture the regulars don’t want to see changed. Her autobiographical volume, When Hitler Stole Pink Rabbit, is now a set text in German schools. Exploring her much-loved masterpieces and detailing how she met her husband, Quatermass creator Nigel Kneale, this film unveils amazing never-seen-before drawings. Reviews: “Any 90 year-old is a survivor but Kerr is exceptional” The Times
From the splendour of the grand Stately Home they’ve spent 10 years saving from ruin, Sarah, Graham and their children reveal the origins of traditional Christmas customs: How decorating a tree, eating mince pies and exchanging gifts became ‘the done thing’ for the gentry and ordinary people. See how pastimes which first became popular in the Georgian, Victorian and World War II periods, remain very much part of Christmas today. Our hosts immerse themselves in this seasonal romp with plenty of gusto and good humour, leaving viewers with a better understanding of what makes the perfect family occasion… more turkey anyone?

In the aftermath of the tragedy, the Prime Minister was forced to resign and many questioned the country’s culture of obedience. Shockingly, young victims followed orders from the captain instead of escaping, while the crew fled during the rescue effort. As investigators uncover apparently toxic corporate practices, we follow the grieving parents rallying together to push for answers and improved legislation. Under particular scrutiny is the relationship between a convicted fraudster, his church, and the company that owned the Sewol.

The Day They Dropped The Bomb 1 x 60’ Finestripe for ITV & Smithsonian Channel (2014)
Remembering Hiroshima Featuring incredible eyewitness accounts, this film sheds new light on the development, delivery and impact of the deadliest weapon ever used. Through rare archive footage and the personal testimonies of people who were there, this bold documentary tells the full story of this landmark moment. Covering the race to beat the Nazis to the technology, it contrasts the likely cost of a ground offensive with the ability to, in Churchill’s words, “end the whole war in one or two violent shocks.” Contributors include the last recorded interview with Theodore ‘Dutch’ Van Kirk, a crew member of the Enola Gay, the plane which dropped the bomb. IWC Media for BBC Four (2014)

Humanity’s most remote outpost
Sprawling citadels and intriguing artefacts
New archaeological evidence suggests the civilization of Easter Island was ingenious and advanced… far from the ecological disaster frequently portrayed.
The eagerly awaited follow-up to Lost Kingdoms Of South America sees Dr Jago Cooper exploring more incredible but lesser-known civilisations, this time in Central America.
Located over 1,000 miles from its nearest neighbour, Polynesian sailors built a civilisation on Easter Island in splendid isolation. When the Dutch arrived in 1722 they found a barren landscape dotted with colossal stone statues. Academics asserted that a determination to build ever-larger ‘moai’ caused deforestation and devastation. Dr Jago Cooper presents new evidence to challenge this ‘ecocide’ theory. Carbon dating suggests the settlers only landed in 1200 AD, much later than thought. Could they really have removed all the trees in such a short period of time? We also see how the Polynesians built walls to protect their crops – a clear commitment to self-sufficiency. Has this civilisation been unfairly judged?
The Olmec of Mexico (1200-400 BC), the Taíno of the Greater Antilles (400 BC-1600 AD), the Teotihuacan of Mexico (200 BC-700 AD) and the Chiriquí of Costa Rica (1000 BC-1400 AD) were vibrant and highly significant cultures. Sometimes pre-dating their famous neighbours, and often inspiring them, they deserve to be recognised alongside the mighty Aztec and Mayan civilisations. From paradise islands to deserts and rainforests, the environments of Central America are astonishingly diverse. The human responses were equally startling – temples clinging to the sides of volcanoes and sprawling citadels now in ruins. Dr Jago Cooper highlights these forgotten peoples’ greatest achievements and reveals why each kingdom ultimately disappeared.

Helping families who have lost everything in a fire or flood to piece their lives back together… brick by brick, memory by memory.

Get it wrong and they’ll suffer a lot of stress for no gain. Can the homeowners outperform the agent’s predictions?
Behind every house destroyed by fire or flood there is a family in crisis. They have lost everything. Not just bricks and mortar but heirlooms and wedding photographs; priceless possessions. Who can help in such dire straits? Welcome to Rebuild My Life. Good food doesn’t have to cost a fortune
A stylish alternative to disposable fashion
Gregg Wallace and Chris Bavin are on a mission to show people how to spend less and eat better… one family at a time.
Dawn O’Porter thinks it’s crazy we buy cheap mass produced clothes when vintage pieces are totally unique, look fantastic and don’t cost the earth.
In each episode, Gregg Wallace (MasterChef) and ‘The Naked Grocer’, Chris Bavin, show a new family how to shop, cook and eat for less, without scrimping on quality. With the help of a nutrionist, they analyse the ingredients and set a target for how much the family could save. Are they too beholden to big-name products? To find out, everything will be debranded. Watching on monitors from their ‘Kitchen HQ’, Gregg & Chris see exactly how the family respond to their new meals. Will they even notice their favourite product has been swapped? For the finale, the family choose between the food they normally buy and the excellent, cheaper alternatives.
Women have four times as many clothes as they did in the 1980s, with many items worn once then thrown away. Dawn is determined to tackle this addiction to fast fashion. Searching for lost classics in vintage shops, high-end boutiques and relatives’ attics, she proves that clothes from the past can be clothes of the future. Along with her vintage clothing connoisseur, she explores the history of fashion, revealing key influences on what we wear today. Men should be able to spot a 1950s Levis jacket, just as every girl should know an Oscar de la Renta dress. If tired clothing needs bringing up-to-date then Dawn’s Wardrobe Workshop can help: customising, repairing and reinventing old pieces into exciting new outfits. Amidst tears, tantrums and drama, the presenter draws on all their skills and contacts. The secret they mustn’t share is that the project is an official trial. Two teams of three compete over four rounds. The opener, Connections, includes music and picture questions. The sooner they answer correctly, the more points they win: 5 for guessing right after just one clue, 3 for two clues and so on. In Sequences, the first clue might be “5 C in an N”, and the second “2 N in a D”, but what is the fourth? Clue; they’re abbreviations of US coin values: 5 cents in a nickel. In the Connecting Wall round, each team must identify four groups of connected items. The final Missing Vowels round is head-to-head on the buzzer. It’s the game show that hits all the wrong notes in the best possible way. Each week on the new twisted competition show Killer Karaoke, contestants attempt to sing a song while facing extreme and sometimes skin-crawling situations. These folks have to put their vocal chords to the test while braving their worst fears. Challenges include trying to sing while fending off attack dogs, while being dunked in a tank with hundreds of snakes, or while sticking bare hands, feet and sometimes even a head into containers containing wild animals. When all is “sung and done,” the contestants face-off on an enormous record player. They must sing their hearts out as the turntable beneath their feet begins to spin faster, and the force hurtles them one by one off to the side. The audience then helps to decide who will take home the weekly cash prize of up to $10,000. Inspired by the popular Zodiak Media international television hit Sing If You Can. Key Facts:
