Editors A LETTER FROM THE

Hello, and welcome to the first ever edition of Big Day Magazine, a place where brides and grooms from all over the United Kingdom can find inspiration and prestigious suppliers, to make their wedding one to remember.

TEN

TIPS TO LOOKING

amazing ON YOUR BIG DAY! Doing your own wedding makeup will save you a lot of money. These 10 top tips will help you get your dream look without breaking the bank.

1

3

Choose long lasting foundation

Get your skin in shape

Seek professional advice to ensure your skincare routine is right before your big day. This way, your skin will be in tip-top condition and your foundation will look ultra flawless. Try using a facial oil at night for powerful and quick results. Try Sophie Chamings Skincare Facial Oils.

2

Prime your canvas

Choose a long lasting foundation to avoid shine and dullness throughout the day. Try Estée Lauder Double Wear Foundation, £27.50 from Debenhams or Lancome Teinte Idole Silky Matte Liquid Foundation, £25 from Boots.

4

For perfect bridal beauty on your big day, be sure to start with a primer all over your face to even out skin tone and texture, and help your foundation to last all day. Try Laura Mercier Primer, £28 from House of Fraser.

Peach your cheeks

Choose a peachy blusher and apply to the apples of your cheeks for a fresh and natural look. When applying this type of wedding makeup, blend upwards and along cheekbones to finish. Try Boujois Blusher, Rose Ambre, £7.49 from Superdrug.

5

Wear eyeliner and make it gel

Gel eyeliner is magic! It creates real definition like liquid liner but is so much easier to apply.

It looks great on and lasts all day, something you’ll need with all the attention. Opt for brown for fair skins and black for darker complexions. Try Estée Lauder Double Wear Gel Eye Liner, £17 from John Lewis.

6

Line your lips for great definition

Use a lip liner (in a natural shade) all over your lips before applying your lipstick or gloss. It creates natural definition and the colour lasts for hours! Try Rimmel Exaggerate Lip Liner-addiction, £3.99 from Superdrug.

7

Get rid of those dreaded bags

Do not use light reflective concealer under your eyes as you risk having white eye circles in your photographs. Instead use a matte concealer or your wedding makeup foundation to hide those bags.

8

Focus on your eyes When it comes to wedding makeup for eyes, use waterproof mascara to avoid panda eyes in pictures, but comb through your lashes after each coat to eliminate clumps.

9

Eliminate creasing or fading around the eyes

If you suffer from creasing or fading make sure you start off with a good base. Use an eyeshadow before your shadow to keep it smooth. Try Laura Mercier Eye Basics, £20.50 from John Lewis.

10

A quick pit stop touching up on the day

On the day itself, carry with you 3 essential products for touching up; your lip liner, lip gloss/stick and a translucent powder for stopping shine. This will ensure you look your best throughout the entire day. Why not but yourself a little wedding makeup bag as a treat for the day!

Real

Brides REAL BRIDES AND THEIR WEDDING JOURNEYS

Amy-Louise and Lee Young from Colne, Lancashire tied the knot in November 2014 at the stunning venue, Mitton Hall in the Ribble Valley. The magnificent fifteenth Century Manor house boasts beautiful views of the countryside, as well as its own terrace and gardens, what better place to host your special day.

How did you meet?

My husband worked for my dad but we became an item at a festival.

How did he propose? Or did you take the plunge?

What was your theme? Vintage chic.

How many bridesmaids and pageboys did you have?

He proposed at a joint friends party.

8 bridesmaids, 2 flower girls, 10 groomsmen, safe to say it was a big wedding party!

Tell us about planning your wedding...

Tell us about the Big Day itself...

Loved every minute of it, from the minor details to choosing the venue and my dress. The last 3 weeks were stressful but other than that I thoroughly enjoyed it all. I had a year in which to plan it.

It was the best day of my life. From start to finish. My favourite moments were the marriage ceremony, the speeches and the first dances. They really stand out for me. The day was filled with emotion, I cried and laughed a lot.

What was the easiest thing about planning your wedding?

The vows were easy because it was the only thing I was certain about! I’m such an indecisive person, but the words I wanted to say to my husband just came so easy! It was from the heart.

...and the hardest? Picking my dress and pleasing everyone.

Where are you planning to go for your honeymoon? Mexico. We have always wanted to go, we have two small children and find it difficult to go somewhere so far!

So our honeymoon was going to be somewhere that we could only do without the children, otherwise we would be packing them up with us!

Second Time

BRIDES WEDDINGS AREN’T JUST FOR FIRST LOVES!

Just because you have already had the dress, the car, the venue, the husband once already does not make the second time wedding any less special. In fact if anything it makes it even more special. I am talking from experience here.

one dog, countless goldfish, and many years of memories, we were one of the unlucky couples, the couple that don’t last a lifetime, the ones that realise there is still love in the world but that it is not in our relationship. So we parted and went our separate ways.

I myself was married in my early twenties, and remember trying my dress on for the first time, my mums excited face and all the whopping and gasping that followed. I like so many other 90’s brides was married ant the parish church and had a reception at a local hotel. A full big day of it! Unfortunately as myself and my husband grew older we grew into new people, stronger people, people that realised that we had nothing much left in common, and after over 20 years of marriage, 2 children,

I was lucky enough to find meet a man and find my ‘true love’ I cannot explain it but it is just so different this time to the love I thought I had all those many years ago. This time it is more special, and so when I marry this time I want the wedding to reflect this new love, and this new chapter of my life! I have spoken to many brides and just like me, they are doing this for the second time around and many say the same thing “it cannot be like

my first wedding,” not only am I now much older and the thought of such a long day tires me out, but there cannot be any comparisons. Myself like many other second time brides want a wedding later in the day, in fact I am going one step further and having an evening wedding. Yes just one wedding, the one reception/ party and all in a very relaxed and very happy environment with all the important family and loved ones with us to share the whole event.

My father passed away a couple of years ago and it breaks my heart to know he won’t see this new found happiness but I am blessed with a wonderful son who will give me away. And my beautiful daughter will this time be my Maid of Honour (my original bridesmaids and pageboys will all be at my second wedding but this time as friends, family and guests as we have joked many times that they are all bad luck charms).

Things that were most important in my first wedding are not the priority in the second. We realise now what is truly important. Yes we want to look gorgeous after all it is our wedding day. But we don’t want the big dress we are nearly 50 years old this time and want to look elegant and timeless. This time when we are planning the day we are looking at making sure we don’t miss a single moment of it, that it is a celebration and we don’t get too mixed up in the things that are not important but instead look at this as a day celebration of new beginning’s and happiness.

So I think what I am really trying to say is just because for some brides it is a second time wedding doesn’t mean it isn’t a first time love!
