The Thames is one of the world’s most fascinating and beautiful rivers. From source to sea its 200-plus miles flow from bubbling springs in Gloucestershire to the site of the old London Bridge, then on to the imposing tidal estuary to the east of London. Always a hive of activity, whether commercial, industrial, recreational, ceremonial or administrative, the river is constantly in need of environmental improvement. Get to know the true spirit of London
Housed on the top floor of 171 Portobello Road is the fascinatingly named Ginstitute – London’s second smallest museum. It is also home to London’s smallest working copper pot still, ‘Coppernicus’ – which produces spirits in the traditional way using centuries old techniques. Visitors to The Ginstitute are given a whistle-stop tour of gin and its history and have the opportunity to sample, taste and blend 25 different single botanical flavoured distillates to make their own gin in the Still Room – where Portobello Road Gin was first developed. Delegates leave with a bottle of Portobello Road and a bottle of their very own handcrafted gin. Their recipe also stays on file just in case they should ever like to reorder.
