a place for dwelling: housing adv design a: M. Halfants Sp14
A multi-use project for Sarasota, FL. Exploring the realms of residential privacy with that of a communal space for the public. Formal aesthetics offer residents uninterrupted views of the bay to the West & the park to the East. Some units offer views in both directions. Plinth’s are know to support something above itself. This system of organizing the units, acts as the same. With each unit taking up a variety of patterns to offer multiple viewings from west sunset to also see the rising sun. These interlocking units allow for more of an interesting spacial condition, from within the unit itself. Elevating the units from the ground level creates a plinth that covers the parking lot. This creates a surface, which is also covered by the above units. The plinth becomes a place for public engagement to occur safe from the busy street edge below. The tower points act as anchors and become part of the vertical circulation. Parking and other features are supported underneath the plinth.

a place for craft: school of art adv design a: M. Halfants Sp14
Design of a new building revolving around adaptive learning and public spaces. Site currently lies where a parking lots rest at the University of Colorado, Denver. Studying the site lead me to think of how to make a direct path from the library, that lies adjacent to our site, through our site as it leads to the rest of the campus. A bypass that becomes shaded by the building’s gallery space. Galleries should work with the art they are showing. This gallery provides shade to its floating mass. The slope of the floor condition was designed to be ada assemble yet still climb to the base of the third floor, putting it almost at 45 feet. As you walk the inside of the path, the art work is protected on the opposite side, giving the viewer enough space to see it all and then the availability to get a closer look. Studios have an openness to them. Lessening the footprint of a building gives its ground presence translucence while also providing overhead. The jury spaces created to intersect the entrance sequence into the building’s upper levels.
