In the beginning there was a floor of a huge hall covered by all 267 submissions by 158 mostly Polish students. The jury decided to limit the number of works using sticker method: every juror could mark a poster, book or animation with a little stripe of yellow paper. After a couple of hours we removed the works without any stickers (every single work was discussed to be sure we don’t remove it by accident) and this way we managed to select the 84 works (by 77 authors) for the exhibition. The second round was more difficult: how can we select three excellent works from the vast collection of heterogeneous project! So we used the sticker method again. Every juror has got five individually colored stickers to mark her or his preferred objects. This way we could not only select 15 finalists but some works already had four or three stickers, a clear sign of a jury consensus. So after a discussion we gave awards to three outstanding projects. During the process I realized certain repeating

patterns, for instance the omnipresence of the free font Aller or inspiration by the Pinterest aesthetics. Judging the students’ works is always a tangled task: it is obvious many participants simply don’t have enough experience so they make little mistakes here and there. Of course the jury members did notice those but because Agrafa is a student competition, we rather wanted to encourage students to improve their skills than to discourage them by removing some works just because of poor typography. Anyway, I was impressed by the high quality of many works and therefore I am glad the organizers accept the jury’s idea to announce the list of finalists, I think it is fair for students to know. I congratulate the winners for their outstanding work and I wish all the participants a successful and joyful career.
