Discriminatory attitude of BCCI creates disappointment in Kashmir Young generation feels disappointed disgraced and betrayed

Shahana Srinagar, August 03: Disappointment and disillusionment prevailed all over the valley after a young cricket player Parvez Rasool selected earlier for Zimbabwe Tour was left out of the 5th and final one day also against Zimbabwe. The youngster who is first player to have been selected in the national team had become an overnight celebrity, hero and idol for thousands of Kashmiri youths aspiring to represent the country in different fields and games. Everybody had

pinned his hope on the selection of Parvez and thought that he will be given a chance as India had already clinched the series against Zimbabwe. If one goes by the records it has been a tradition that after winning a series, the young and aspiring players are included in the team to prove their mettle. But in this case neither the emotions of general masses of Kashmir were respected nor the traditions were followed. The Kashmiri people had seen a cricketing hero in Parvez Rasool who was about to represent them in the international

arena as they have been unprivileged in this field. Cricket is so popular in Kashmir valley that the selection of Parvez Rasool had inculcated a new spirit of nationalism in young generation. However, unfortunately the Kashmiri people felt let down and betrayed by BCCI and the selection committee besides the interim Captain Virat Kohili. This Newspaper received many phone calls from youngsters expressing their anguish, displeasure, disappointment and the anger on what they termed as discriminatory attitude

towards a budding Kashmiri cricketer. The chief Minister Omar Abdullah who appreciated Parvez Rasool’s inclusion in the Indian Team felt peeved and disgusted. This is not the question of his inclusion in the playing 11 but it is the way the Kashmiri youths are being treated said a caller while expression his displeasure. One of the youths asked that media should unite together against this behavior of Indian selectors and should ask the Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh to intervene as he had himself congratulated Parvez Rasool

for his selection. One of the youths was emphatic in his telephonic conversation saying that how union Govt. can now expect that youth of J&K particularly from Kashmir valley will get encouraged as they have themselves seen the treatment meted to Parvez Rasool. He said that this discriminatory behavior will cause further alienation in the minds of the youths who recently had experienced a change of mind in themselves. Perhaps the non inclusion of Parvez Rasool may not be a big thing See Disappointment on Pg. 11
