Zero Tolerance consigned to archives: AMM ‘Last 5-years have witnessed dismal governance, rampant corruption’ Srinagar, Jan 7 : Castigating the state dispensation of being unaware of the ground situation of the state, Awami Mutahida Mahaz Tuesday stated that the tall claims of great performance of the government after five years are the ‘mere’ advertisements “The fact is that the dispensation has done negligible in all the vital sectors concerning the masses. The administration is so weak, ill-prepared and insensitive that even a few inches of snow puts the whole life in Kashmir and other areas of the state out of gear deflating the plump claims of the government,” reads the statement of AMM issued to KNS. The statement remarked further that despite various commissions and organizations, the corruption in the state has become a way of life and government has failed to take any concrete measure which could at least minimize this curse. “Transparency and accountability is seen nowhere. Malpractices, favoritism and delayed justice have become rampant and gained administrative sanction. Human Rights Violations continue un-

abated, police high-handedness and indiscreet use of force against people protesting for their genuine demands continues.” The spokesman maintained further that the “zero tolerance” has been consigned to archives and the investigations and inquires regarding human rights violations are either pending or remain unimplemented, making mockery of the govt. promises and actions. “The youth of the state which is our future hope remains desolate and depressed. The performances of Women’s Commission and Corporation have also been next to zero. The much talked Panchayati Raj is still in doldrums. The problem of unemployment has not been addressed in a wholesome way even the posts and positions available in the govt. Sector have mostly remained unfilled to date.” The spokesman remarked that the recruiting agencies are ill-equipped; lack transparency and work in such a lethargic and incompetent way that courts have to interfere with See Tolerance on pg 11

governments, knowledge partners and more research. Referring to the strategic approach to RMNCH+A (Reproductive, Maternal, New born, Child Health + Adolescent) in which `A` denotes adolescents, unveiled last year at Mahabalipuram, the Health Minister said that new focus on adolescents is in recognition of the fact that without adolescent health, maternal and child health outcomes may continue to elude us. Shri Ghulam Nabi Azad said that the 5 by 5 RMNCH+A matrix has been developed which lists out the 5 high impact interventions under each of the 5 pillars, all of which need to be implemented together, at the same time, with high coverage and quality. Speaking at the occasion, Sh K Desiraju, Health Secretary said that the programme is an effort to move

away from a ‘doctor-driven’ effort towards a holistic and participative programme. The RKSK recognizes that all adolescents need attention even before the occurrence of any disease or problem, and in order to make informed decisions and choices. Highlighting the salient features of the programme and the need for an enhanced and sharper focus on adolescents, Smt Anuradha Gupta, Addl. Secretary and Mission Director, NRHM stated that adolescents present a unique opportunity to reap the country’s demographic dividends. This, she pointed out, will not be possible without investing in their health needs. She explained that lifestyle and behavior related diseases such as substance abuse, inflicting self harm, tendency See Azad on pg 11

Whom does Kamal represent- Hurryat or NC? Says Hurriyat creation of agencies to weaken movement Srinagar, Jan 7: National Conference (NC) Tuesday claimed that the formation of third Hurriyat is the creation of agencies and the attempts are being made to weaken the on-going movement in Kashmir. “Ram Jet Malani divided Geelani and Mirwaiz and now we have the agencies in our country that are hell-bent in dividing the separatists further so that the ongoing movement could be weakened at large,” Dr Mustafa Kamal, additional general secretary NC told KNS. He stated further that the role of the Indian agencies are from the beginning was to use and throw the leaders here. They create leaders, use them and then throw them at the end. “The agencies of India have the greater role in using the leaders at one point and then mak-

ing them irrelevant at the other so that new leader could be created.” Dr. Kamal maintained further that the Huriyat Leadership here must unite for the common cause and should present one picture before the world. He remarked further that the world community including OIC accepts the representative character of Huriyat and it must in unison perceive the common cause. “There are elements from both the sides that strive to weaken the Kashmir issue for their vested interests and the leadership must not fall in their trap. Instead of fighting against each other, they must fight together for a cause.” Kamal further told KNS that it is unfortunate that the Huriyat Leadership is getting divided on ground and the same has created chaos among the people. “They should not confuse people and the need of the hour for the leadership is to show unity.”

Mirwaiz’s appreciation for BJP, ‘prejudiced, unreal’: Congress Srinagar, Jan 7: Taking a strong exception to Hurriyat Conference(M) Chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq’s assertion that BJP was better than UPA led government vis-à-vis taking initiatives on Kashmir issue, state Congress Tuesday termed Mirwaiz’s opinion ‘prejudiced’ and ‘unreal’. “Mirwaiz is wrong when he terms BJP government better for Kashmir than UPA. He is playing politics over graves but people here are very much aware of the history. The emotional politics has no space in the present world scenario,” Muzafar Parray, senior vice president Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee told KNS. He added further that it was the Congress that provided moral support

to the movement of the people of Kashmir against the ‘tyrannical’ Dogra rule. It was the courtesy of Congress that the state is enjoying special status. “How could the fact be undermined that Pandit Nehru was even arrested in Kashmir when he provided the entire moral support to the people here during the Dogra rule?” Accusing that the separatist leadership here is fragmented on all grounds, Congress state vice-president maintained that the Hurriyat Leadership must unite for the sake of the greater cause and must initiate dialogue with Delhi for the Kashmir settlement. “They (separatists) have no common agenda. They must unite and talk to the Prime Minister for the lasting solution of the Kashmir problem.”

PDP slams AAP over hurting Muslim Sentiments

Srinagar, Jan 7: Condemning the reported expression of disrespect for Muharram by a leader of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Kumar Vishwas, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Tuesday said it has hurt the feelings of Muslims and all freedom loving people across

the country. In a statement issued to KNS, the party spokesman said the leaders of youngest party (AAP) in the country need to curb their exuberance while making statements that have the potential of hurting people’s sentiments and sounding offensive. The spokesman said it was highly disappointing that a prominent member of the emerging political party, which claims to represent See PDP on pg 11

Official apathy: People raised funds to repair water pipes Srinagar, Jan 7: After the cold response showed by Public and Health Engineering (PHE) Department, people at Abikarpora near Nehru Park in Srinagar city raised funds and donations for repairing water pipes in the area. Residents of Abikarpora told CNS that they are without drinking water from over past one month. “The water pipes laid by PHE department are all defunct and despite repeated pleas, no official from the department responded. Our appeal proved to be a far cry,” one of the residents Fayeem Ahmed told CNS. Reports said that residents went door to door to collect donations. After raising funds they employed different labours to get the water pipes repaired and according to

residents the work is under progress and hopefully, the inhabitants will get drinking water now. Mocking at the administrative callousness, people said that politicians visit the area during elections and soon after occupying chair they disappear from the scene. “We will elect a candidate by our choice now and will not allow anyone to get benefitted from election boycott,” one of the elders said adding that to address administrative and social problems of people, the election of right candidate has become inevitable. Chief Engineer Muzafar Ahmed Lankar told CNS that he will sent a team of officers in the area to ascertain the facts. “The residents never approached me. They might have See Oficial on pg 11
