As the elections to the State Assembly are nearing, the Congress and National Conference have once again started to enact the same drama of blaming each other for the recent debacle of Lok Sabha Elections and are as usual using very abusive and filthy language against each other. In a recent statement one of the very senior leaders of NC termed Congress as leaches and said that there can be no pre-poll alliance with that party. Even Congress leaders have made it public that there will not be pre-poll alliance between the two political entities. However, one fails to understand as

Let’s create a ‘Skill India’ and not a ‘Scam India’: Modi

Says his government will leave no stone unturned to fulfill promises New Delhi, June 11: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday said that India needs to establish its identity as “skill India” and not “scam India” and there was need to create a people’s movement for good governance. In his maiden policy speech in the Lok Sabha in reply to the motion of thanks to the President Pranab Mukherjee’s address, Modi, who came to power on May 26 at the head of a NDA government, said the government would “leave no stone unturned to fulfill” the promises made by it. In his nearly hour-long speech, which he spoke ex tempore and was heard with rapt attention by members, Modi said there was need to take bold decisions and also make small innovative changes at every level for the country to realise its potential. Reaching out to minorities and underprivileged groups, particularly Dalits, tribals and Muslims, he said there was need for focused activity to improve their economic condition. He said the conditions of Muslims has remained unchanged, alluding to the fact that nothing much has been done for these people despite all the talk by previous gov-

ernments. “I don’t see it as appeasement. A body is not healthy, if any of its part is not healthy,” he said with specific reference to the community for the first time. Sending a strong message on the issue of women’s security, Modi said politicians should stop commenting frivolously on such incidents. “I want to appeal to the politicians of the country, stop this psychological analysis of incidents of rape. It does not behove of you,” Modi said. “They are playing with the dignity of our mothers and sisters. Such commentary is not appropriate at political level. The respect and security of women should be the concern of all 125 crore Indians,” he said. The prime minister’s comments come on a day when Maharashtra Home Minister R.R. Patil was reported as blaming “obscene advertisements” for rapes. Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav had also

commented on the issue drawing criticism from women’s groups. Referring to the speeches made during the two-day debate which lasted over 12 hours and saw participation of 52 members, Modi said there were many who had voiced doubts if the high promises spelt out in the president’s address, which outlines the government’s policy intentions, could be fulfilled.Giving the example of his time as See Modi On PG 11..

Geelani says Pandits welcome to valley without separate land concept

Huriyat (G)’s seminar on 2010 killings foiled

Srinagar, Jun 11 : Huriyat Conference (G) Chairman Syed Ali Geelani while welcoming the return of the Kashmiri Pandits to valley, Wednesday cautioned that the issuance of the separate lands to the community is fraught with the dangerous consequences and the same shall be opposed at large. According to the KNS correspondent, Geelani while addressing people at Airport road of the summer capital here stated that deliberate attempts are being made to disintegrate Kashmir’s ongoing resistance movement by launching the hidden attacks on Kashmir’s tradition, culture and history. He stated that Pandits are the part of Kashmir’s society and that they will always be welcomed in their homeland. “But here I want to clarify that once they are being offered separate homes at separate places, the same will be unacceptable and shall be opposed at large by the resistance leadership.” He also launched a scathing attack against GOI over the reports that the PaK refugees in Jammu shall be permanently settled in Jammu. The Huriyat (G) chairman stated that such moves will be countered by the Huriyat leadership and that his amal-

gam will come up with the detailed stand before the masses in the near future. He also termed the decision of the state government over the enhancement in retirement age as an ‘election gimmick’, stating that the damage control exercise is now a futile thing for the present dispensation. “Also I want to clear that PDP is another face of the Congress and their slogan of change I nothing sans a deception.” Earlier in the day Huriyat G chief spokesman told KNS that heavy deployment of police was put in place not only on the main gate of Geelani’s residence but on the Airport road as well and the men in uniform did not allow anybody to move towards the venue. As police did not allow the participants including Shabir Shah and Nayeem Khan to enter the venue of the seminar, dozens of Hurriyat (G) activists protested by raising slogans against the police action. Later Geelani also defied the house arrest and came out of his residence and lead a sit in on the Airport road along with other leaders. Pertinently, Hurriyat (G) had announced that it will organize a daylong seminar Wednesday, at Hyderpora with its chairman Syed Ali Geelani in chair in memory of 128 innocents who were killed in 2010. The seminar was scheduled to start at 10.30 a.m. A book written on 2010 killings was also to be released on the occasion. (KNS)

Beg slams Rather for backdoor enters

Says if corrective measures not initiated, NC will face drubbing in LA election Srinagar, Jun 11 : Launching a

scathing attack against the policies of his own party National Conference, senior NC leader and a former Member Parliament from South Kashmir Dr Mehboob Beig on Monday accused finance minister Abdul Rahim Rather for economic disparity and backdoor appointment in Jammu and Kashmir Bank. According to the KNS correspondent, Beg while addressing a gathering on the anniversary of his father Mirza Afzal Beigh at South Kashmir warned his party to mend its policies or be ready to face drubbing in the upcoming assembly elections. “The May 16 results reflect that NC has lost in 39 out of 44 assembly seats. The PDP that was born in South Kashmir is now accepted in Srinagar and Baramulla also. I agree that people of South Kashmir have been neglected to the hilt and Omar Sahib should address this sense of neglect or otherwise be ready for May 16 results again,” beg remarked, according to KNS corre-

spondent. Criticizing the role of senior National Conference leader and finance minister Abdul Rahim Rather, the former MP said that majority of the employees of Jammu and Kashmir Bank hail from Charer-e-Shareef. “Rather has employed most of the people from Charar-e-Shareef in JK Bank and don’t the people of Anantnag de-

serve to be adjusted in that bank. Despite these appointments, Rather Sahib has failed in his constituency to garner support as is reflected in the recently concluded Lok Sabha elections,” Beg stressed. He also censured Rather for his role as the See Beg On PG 11..

China for new security concept to improve ties with India

Uzbek militants claim Karachi airport attack

Stresses the need to take Sino-India relationship farward

Death toll in the attack rises to 39

New Delhi, June 11: Reflecting growing congruence in bilateral ties, China on Wednesday pitched for promoting a new security concept featuring mutual trust and cooperation to take the Sino-India relationship further. Chinese Ambassador Wei Wei also said that China and India should work closely to push for a mutually beneficial global economic regime and oppose protectionism of any form. “We should promote new security concept featuring mutual trust, mutual benefit, equality and cooperation,” he said while delivering a lecture at the Institute of Defence and Strategic Affairs. The comments by Wei Wei came three days after Chinese President Xi Jinping’s Special Envoy and Foreign Minister Wang Yi held extensive talks with External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj during which both sides agreed to further boost ties in diverse fields. With improving relations, the two countries are exploring the possibility of having joint exercises between the air forces and the navy, besides the armies

which have held three exercises so far and agreed to hold the fourth one in India this year. Seeking better economic and trade ties, Wei said both the countries should actively seek “common development” while following the principle of mutual benefit, cooperation and win-win situation. He said both countries should make efforts to achieve “peaceful co-existence, equal participation and competition on an equal footing”. “We should respect each other’s rights to make independent economic decisions, advocate a mutually beneficial global trade and economic regime and oppose protectionism in any forms,” he said. China is India’s biggest trading partner with two-way trade reaching close to USD 65 billion in 2013, according to official figures. However, the trade deficit in favour of China continued to mount to around USD 40 billion which is a matter of concern for India. India has consistently been raising the issue of increasing trade deficit See China On PG 11..
