Not sure about pre-poll alliance: Soz

Srinagar, Jan 12: Prof. Saifuddin Soz president Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) on Sunday said that he is not sure about pre-poll between Congress and its alliance partner National Conference for forthcoming Parliamentary or Assembly elections and any decision in this regard will be taken by the Congress high command in Delhi, off course, after analyzing the ground reports. Soz was addressing a function held in Hotel Broadway here where some prominent political figures like Mohammad Yaqoob Vakil. Abdul Gani Naseem, Manzoor Ahmad Zargar, Bashir Ahmad Malik, Shaheen Sultan Qazi Hakim U Din, Hafiz Mohd Iqbal, Gul Rehman, Aneesa Gul, Moulvi Zahoor and Riyaz Ahgmad Malik joined the party. cap with the Prime Minister. I am yet to get comments from the Congress Vice President or the Prime Minister," he told reporters in Greater Noida. Moily said 89.2 per cent of the 15 crore LPG consumers use up to nine cylinders in a year and only 10 per cent have to buy the additional requirement at the market price. If the quota is raised to 12, about 97 per cent of the LPG consumers would be covered by subsidised LPG, he said. Increasing the limit to 12 would result in an additional fuel subsidy burden of Rs 3,300 crore-5,800 crore for the government. See Moily On Page 11..

CET And that is why Sajad was produced before the anti corruption court on Sunday. On December 30, 2013 after perusing a report submitted by the crime branch establishing fraud against 12 candidates, whose names figure in the list of accused mentioned in the charge sheet, the High Court had asked BOPEE to submit Action taken Report (ATR) against these students by or before the next date of hearing. As reported already by KNS, BOPEE is likely to cancel the admissions of these 12 charge sheeted candidates after show cause notices are served to them. “Besides these 12, the Crime Branch has almost established a case against six students and investigations are on in other four students,” a senior officer of the Crime Branch told KNS. A division bench of the High Court comprising of Justice M H Attar and Justice Verinder Singh later asked the telecom companies operating in the state except Airtel to cooperate with the Crime Branch in furnishing the call recordings required by the investigating agency. In case of non compliance, the court has warned them of a strong action under law. This order came, after the crime branch sought high court’s intervention in facilitating call record details from the private telecom companies operating in the state. Pertinently, on December 17, an anti corruption court had rejected bail plea of Mushtaq Baqaal, alias Peer former chairman BOPEE-- the main accused in CET-2012 paper leak scam. The court had rejected Baqaal’s plea that Crime Branch of police has no jurisdiction to investigate the matter under law.” On December 3, 2013 the High Court had asked the government to furnish moveable and immoveable property details Baqaal and other accused in the scam. In its report filed before the special anti corruption court, the crime branch had vehemently opposed the bail plea of Baqaal saying that the matter is still under investigation and the Crime Branch wants to connect the missing links for which Baqaal’s custody is important. Baqaal is in limelight since the CET-2012 paper leakage scam was unearthed by the Crime Branch in December last year. Presently under the custody of Crime Branch, Baqaal alleged to be involved in selling of CET paper against a hefty amount to the brokers who had in turn sold the sets of paper to the aspiring candidates. through a number of programmes across the country. The government of India and University of Chicago in America have signed an agreement to establish Vivekananda Chair in the field of Indian studies. The Prime Minister further said, “We are gathered here today to pay our homage and tribute to the memory of one of India’s greatest sons. A teacher, a great philosopher, a great religious scholar, a patriot, a nationalist and an internationalist – Swami Vivekananda was all these; he was also a citizen of the world. It is not a surprise, therefore, that his message has gone far and wide, inspiring millions of devotees across the world. Over the past one year, we have marked the 150th anniversary of Swamiji’s birth by celebrating his life and his teachings. I believe there are at least three central messages of Swamiji’s teachings that are truly timeless and have universal appeal. First, that all the great religions of the world seek peace on Earth and goodwill among all human beings. Second, that India’s true liberation would come when every Indian feels liberated from the scourge of poverty, ignorance and disease. Third, that India, this great motherland of ours, has much to learn from the world around us and, equally, much to teach the world and that a two-way flow of knowledge between India and the world can only be to our benefit and the benefit of all humanity. Let me elaborate on these thoughts. I have personally been inspired by Swamiji’s syncretic views. As he put it so simply, yet profoundly, “All who have actually attained any real religious experience never wrangle over the form in which the different religions are expressed. They know that the soul of all religions is the same and so they have no quarrel with anybody just because he or she does not speak in the same tongue.” This syncretic and pluralistic view of religion is one of the greatest contributions of Hinduism and of the civilisations that took root in this ancient land of ours. The idea that the whole world is one family has inspired millions of people all over the world. But I also believe it is an idea that defines India and the Indian view of the world. In his historic and famous address to the World Parliament of Religions in Chicago in 1893, which one observer described as "human eloquence at its highest pitch", Swami Vivekananda said that sectarianism, bigotry and fanaticism “have long possessed this beautiful Earth. They have filled the Earth with violence, drenched it often and often with human blood, destroyed civilization and sent whole nations to despair. Had it not been for these horrible demons, human society would be far more advanced than it is now.” Swami Vivekananda expressed the hope at the World Parliament of Religions that “the bell that tolled this morning in honour of this convention may be the death-knell of all fanaticism, of all persecutions with the sword or with the pen, and of all uncharitable feelings between persons wending their way to the same goal.” I have used these three quotes from Swamiji to highlight that it is no use celebrating Swamiji’s life, paying our respects to his ideas and teachings and honouring his memory if we do not also imbibe the values that he so passionately advocated. His truly great message for us, which is of great relevance to our country and our sub-continent, was that true religion and true religiosity cannot be the basis of hatred and division, but of mutual respect and tolerance for the faiths and beliefs of all. I believe Swami Vivekananda’s second important contribution to modern India was to stir the minds of fellow Indians and inspire them to seek freedom and a life of dignity. His clarion call: “Arise! Awake! And stop not till the goal is reached!” – was at once a call to spiritual as well as political liberation. While promoting the idea of the oneness of all religions, Swamiji promoted with equal zeal the idea of the equality of all human beings. Therefore, he rejected colonialism and alien rule as an affront to human dignity. This message inspired a new generation of Indians who, on the one hand, were rediscovering their own history, their own heritage, their own civilizational attributes and contributions and, at the same time, wished to be a part of the modern world on the basis of liberty, equality and fraternity. Finally, Ladies and Gentlemen, let me draw your attention to the third key message of Swami Vivekananda, which has inspired millions of people and has shaped my own thinking about India and the world and about Indians and the world. You will recall that Swami Vivekananda went to Chicago via East Asia and spent time both in China and Japan en route to the United States. He was truly inspired by what the people of China and Japan were trying to do in pursuit of their own

Moily "If that proposal (for raising LPG cap) comes, we need to examine pros and cons. Ultimately, the decision will be taken by CCEA or CCPA," he said. "We are going to take a considered view... We are considering the suggestions." Oil Secretary Vivek Rae, talking to reporters with Moily on his side, said his ministry was moving Cabinet to ensure a minimum USD 65 per barrel is paid to oil and gas producers like ONGC from current USD 40-45 so that difficult oil could be explored and produced. Raising the price for producers means the subsidy the government bears on fuel supplies would rise. "The question is who will bear the (increased) burden. The gap will have to be borne by consumers. Options are being discussed," Rae said. Asked if it would mean a one-time hike of Rs 2-3 on diesel, over and above the current 50 paisa per month, and some increase in LPG rates, he said: "We have to see that. I can't today what the government will decide." Diesel, LPG and kerosene rates at present are capped way below cost of production and the gap is made good by the government by way of cash subsidy and dole from oil producers like ONGC. After the dole, producers are left with just USD 40-45 per barrel which is not enough to produce oil from difficult fields. "At USD 65 per barrel, ONGC can produce 70 million tons of additional oil over a period of time," he said. With a view to cutting its subsidy bill, the government had initially capped the supply of subsidised domestic LPG cylinders to six per household in a year in September 2012. The annual quota was raised to nine in January 2013. Consumers who have exhausted their quota have to buy LPG at the market price of Rs 1,258 per cylinder. Officials said state-owned oil firms lose Rs 762.70 per cylinder on the sale of subsidised LPG and the government will have to pay higher subsidy if the quota is raised.

Mehbooba a secretive, selective and hush hush manner. “We won't allow them to repeat the fraud that was committed in establishment of health centers recently which has left most deserving areas without the basic medicare but served only the interests of a few influential ministers," Mehbooba said. She said the Mushtaq Ganai committee report should be made public to seek the opinion of the people instead of holding hurriedly convened cosmetic meetings, by a group of ministers who even select the audience for such meetings on political considerations in order to seek suggestions convenient to the political agenda of ruling parties. She said even the schools were opened and upgraded only in few constituencies represented by some influential ministers, leaving more genuine claims of other areas unaddressed. “These ministers virtually buy loyalties of their supporters at the cost of the interests of the rest of the state,” she said. Mehbooba said it was encouraging to see that people from different walks of life are joining the PDP in good numbers, and reposing faith in the democratic process to find solution of their problems. She said PDP offers a platform for well educated and honest business man like Shabir to encourage them and play their role in the party’s vision of political resolution and good governance in the state. She said PDP is turning out to be a best alternative for the people as it has proved its credentials both in the government and in opposition and it is the party’s endeavor to offer a respectable space for intellectuals, professionals and the youth to help the party to take the state out of the present governance crisis and political uncertainty. Reacting to criticism of National Conference about the joining of eminent broadcaster of international repute, journalist and writer, Nayeema Ahmad Mahjoor into the PDP, Mehbooba said Nayeema’s entry into the party fold is a part of the current trend in which enlightened people from different walks of life sense a hope in PDP and its agenda of peace and development away from the political frauds committed by the NC over the last 60 years. She said Nayeema’s coming into the party adds the expanding pool of talent this party has attracted over the years and NC has a reason to feel worried on this trend. “Instead of breast beating they should set their house in order,” said Mehbooba. She said Nayeema has a world view of things which will certainly help in formulating our policies and programs and in further fine tuning of our vision for peace and stable J&K. Mehbooba said reason for NC to get jittery over the growing popularity of PDP among all sections of people is because for the first time in their history they are facing a tough and structured opposition within the system, but the remedy for them is not to criticize the people who joined PDP, but offer a better and more creative atmosphere in that party which, unfortunately, has been sullied by the events like Haji Yousuf episode, Cricket scam, Drug Scam, BOPEE scandal etc. which is repelling people from NC. On the occasion Mohammad Abbas Wani, local leader Tangmarg; Abdul Azioz Dar, zone president; Advocate Ghulam Hassan Ganie, zonal organizer, Prof. Abdul Jabbar and Abdul Hamid Wani were present. Adequate energy supply at affordable price key for growth: PM Jan 12: Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh has called upon global hydrocarbon industry to engage in partnerships to meet new energy challenges. Inaugurating India’s premier oil & gas industry conference and exhibition Petrotech2014 at Greater Noida(UP) today, he said, “Such partnerships could result in outcomes like improved recovery from mature fields, exploitation of ultra-deep water energy reserves and progress in complex frontier areas. They could also help in

exploitation of unconventional forms of energy, apart from addressing concerns about environmental degradation and climate change.” Such a partnership is important as the global oil and gas industry today requires new technologies and processes, innovative thinking and creative business models to meet emerging challenges now on the horizon. This is also critical to make India more self-sufficient in the field of energy. Currently, India ranks 7th in terms of energy produc-

tion but fourth in terms of consumption. It is slated to become the third largest by the year 2020. “This implies that we need to increase our energy supply by 3 to 4 times over the next two decades,” Singh said. He also informed that in order to bridge the gap between demand and domestic supply, the Government is encouraging domestic and global companies to explore potentially hydrocarbon-rich areas in the framework of a stable and enabling policy environment.
