Mehbooba for the political resolution and good governance, among the people. She exhorted the hope that joining of Mr Mohuidin into PDP will help in making the party strong on the ground and it was equally heartening to see people reposing faith in the democratic system to see end of their sufferings. Taking dig at the coalition government, she said it is now talking of commitments and instead of giving an account of its performance for six years, it is making fresh promises. “The government is making fresh promises to the people besides knowing that it has not been able deliver on a single promise made to the people in 2008, she said. She said after failing to secure a deal on the Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) over the years, the government is saying it is now its ‘life’s mission’ to revoke the controversial act from the state. She said the government is promising uninterrupted power supply in the future but it has dismantled the entire system. “It has been now almost three years when the panchayat elections happened in the state, and after making mockery of the system it is now, the government is pledging to empower them at the end of its tenure,” she said adding establishment of new administration units is a well thought out political gimmick at a time when NC has badly failed to get anything positive, from Autonomy to free power to cheap gas for the people. She said the NC leadership has lost the plot and ability to think about the issues facing the state. “On pitiful power scenario and poor infrastructure in the state, the NC has not only to answer about the last six years, but about the 40 years it had ruled here,” said Mehbooba. Mehbooba said J&K is going through a difficult phase and the present government instead of making a positive impact on the ground, has held everything hostage to its inefficiency and ineptness to deliver. With the result, she said, the common man is suffering for basic amenities like power, water, ration etc. and exhorted the hope that people will now ensure that a new system, based on equality and justice, shall find its place to take the state forward on modern line. Mehbooba said the PDP during its brief tenure in the government delivered on both political and economical fronts and put in place a structure that changed the public perception that things can’t be changed in the state. She said it was seriousness of the leadership into play to write some historical decisions, like opening of the LoC between India and Pakistan, the ceasefire on the borders or the opening of the Mughal road to connect the Pirpanchal region with the Valley, which realized a positive environment on the ground. The PDP chief said the government has miserably failed on every front and there is virtually governance crisis prevailing in the state, which has also been responsible for the disenchantment among the people. Blaming the NC-led government of patronizing the corruption in the state, she said the institutions of decency in public life have been brazenly eroded to make it easy for the ruling party politicians to resort to corrupt practices with all impunity. On the occasion, the senior party leader, Tariq Hameed Karra, Ghulam Nabi Lone Hanjoora, Aga Syed Mehmood, district president, Saifudin Bhat; Bashir Ahmad Bhat, Ghulam Mohammad Kumar, Shahnawaz Mir and others were present. (KNS)
Sagar of the Rural Development and District Administration were present on the occasion. He said innumerable mega projects have been launched throughout the State for the general welfare of the people and in this regard special focus has been kept on health, widening of roads, education, PDD, Irrigation etc. ‘’Certain parties who have got frustrated by the achievements registered by the present government are trying their best to mislead the people of the state by spreading lies and false propaganda, but that the masses are aware of the work done by us and would give a befitting reply to them in near future’’, the Minister said and maintained that it is recorded history that these forces have always preferred their personal and political gains over the interests of the State. Referring to the initiatives undertaken by the government in ensuring the participation of people at grass root level in day to day governance, the Minister said that the vibrant Panchayat Raj system has been put in place which has ensured the democratic decentralization of powers and has also accelerated the development of rural and far flung areas. “The Government has undertaken the initiative of providing a new model villages to every constituency of the State, which would ensure the sustained and holistic development of these areas by providing the much needed facilities which would put them at par with the urban areas and accelerate their socio-economic advancement”, the Minister maintained. Planning and Development, Mr Ajay Kumar Sadhotra today said that a massive effort is underway to ensure inclusive development of the three regions of Jammu and Kashmir with focused attention on remote and far-flung areas. Addressing a largely attended public meeting at Halka Panchayat in Marh, the Minister said while thrust is being laid on ensuring infrastructural development in key sectors like roads and building, health, education, power and drinking water sectors, special attention is being towards prioritizing employment generation schemes. Mr Sadhotra expected continued support of people in implementing developmental agenda and assured that all necessary measures are being taken to meet basic requirements of the people in the far flung
areas. Referring to the initiatives taken for steering the state to progress and development, Mr Sadhotra said that the performance of Omar Abdullah led government is self explanatory and visible in good measure. This effort will be taken to logical conclusion with the support and cooperation of the people, he maintained. He said the initiatives taken in recent years have fructified in the empowerment of the people in decision making with the Panchayati Raj becoming a reality. He also referred to the Right to Information and Public Services Guarantee Acts and said these revolutionary measures are aimed at empowering the people to make government accountable. their designs while maintaining age old tradition of mutual brotherhood and communal harmony. He lambasted the BJP and opposition also for exploiting the sentiments of innocent and peace loving people of the state for their petty political gains. He said that opposition trying to deceit the common people by raising false statement against the success of Omar led Government and trying to create 2008 situation to mislead the people on communal basis. Huriyat JK didn’t contact me before its formation: Geelani
To oppose alternate solutions, want implementation of UN resolutions
Srinagar, Jan 19 (KNS): Stating that he is unaware about the pre-formation details of third Hurriyat led Shabir Shah, Hurriyat Conference (G) chairman Syed Ali Geelani said that splits among separatist leadership are in no way hurdles in settlement of Kashmir issue. “Splits or unification of Huriyat Conference is no impediment in the process of resolution of Kashmir issue and that it is the ‘stubborn attitude’ of Delhi that is creating hurdles in its settlement,” Geelani said while talking to KNS. When asked if the Huriyat (JK) contacted him expressing its willingness to merge with his faction of Hurriyat Conference, Geelani said ‘no’. “No they did not contact me. I have no knowledge how the third Huriyat was formed.” Without naming any party or a leader, Geelani said no solution other than right to self determination is acceptable to the people of Kashmir for the permanent its settlement. He said: “Even if the constitution is claimed to be restored, it hardly matters for us. The policy matters differ.” He advised that Kashmir’s younger generation must not concentrate over the formations of new amalgams or the party splits but should always emphasize that the region is ‘under
occupation’ and ‘there is where all evils sprout.” On different proposals including setting up of a joint parliament for the two divided parts of Jammu and Kashmir, Geelani said the proposal will be out rightly rejected by him. “Our ideology is clear. We want promises made with the people of Kashmir to be fulfilled and want that the UN resolutions be implemented so that people of this troubled land could decide their fate.” Geelani stated further that New Delhi is ‘crushing the dissent’ in Jammu and Kashmir through the barrel of gun and that the ‘autocratic attitude’ of its dispensation has undermined the system of justice in Kashmir. “There rhetoric is that gun is no solution to the problem, through this they mean the gun of Mujahideen (Militants) but what about 10 million guns here that terrorize even the very basis of our society.” Geelani stated that when youth in Kashmir are being ‘pushed to wall’, then only they resort to stone pelting. He said that stone hurling is always a reactionary action in Kashmir. “When the peaceful protests are being curbed and the ruthless treatment is given to the protesters, then only our youth pick up stones for their self defense. It is never an action but a reaction.” Dissatisfied over the present situation in Afghanistan and in other Muslim countries, Geelani said that it seems that no one really in the Muslim world in capable of helping the people of Kashmir. “As for as Taliban is concerned I want them to stabilize their own country. Even after exodus of Soviet Union from that land, the country is still facing instability.” (KNS)
NC will form next Govt on its own: Shaheen
Jammu, Jan 19 (KNS): National Conference will emerge as the single largest party in the coming 2014 Assembly elections and will form the next govt at its own in the state. ”National Conference has been, is and will continue to remain a major player in the state”. National Conference leader Mir Sajjad Shaheen said, while referring to a joint statement of some PCC leaders who claimed that NC has lost its base in the state.According to a statement issued to KNS, while terming recently elections in four states and the debacle of Congress in these states as a trailer for the assembly polls in the state to be held later in this year, Shaheen said that the Assembly polls would mark the ‘Waterloo’ phase for Congress in Jammu and Kashmir because leadership of this party is exposed before the masses for promoting corruption and nepotism in the state.Shaheen said that some congress leaders were day dreaming and building castles in air. "They have been saying that the next Chief Minister will be from Congress without knowing whether it would retain the seats won by it in 2008," and said that it will be routed out even in Chenab valley which it claim to be its strong bastion, he said.“Safeguarding legitimate interests of the people is a commitment of National Conference and not expediency, as it is for political chameleons who keep shedding crocodile tears during the day and plot backstabbing during dead of night”.
Srinagar suffering for want of political, administrative attention: Congress leader ‘Amira Kadal most neglected constituency in City’
Srinagar, Jan 19 (KNS): The Congress party on Sunday expressed concern over what it called the official apathy which has left the people of Amira Kadal suffering for want of basic amenities. Addressing a one day block (Amirda Kadal) level convention where almost all office bearers especially the block presidents of district Srinagar were present, Congress leader Kadfeen Choudhry, expressed deep anguish at the displacement caused in major portions of Srinagar city allegedly as a result of government apathy and slow pace of execution in drainage and road projects, a statement issued to KNS said. Mr Choudhry said that people of district Srinagar particularly the inhabitants of Amira Kadal are facing acute problems of accessibility as most of the roads have been dug up in these areas years back to
construct drains but never completed. The young and dynamic Congress leader said maximum projects in Srinagar started six years back and are still nowhere near completion. “While amenities are lacking in the entire capital city the areas falling in Amira Kadal constituency are facing scarcity of drinking water, healthcare facility, quality education in governments schools, poor transport network, scarcity of essential commodities faulty public distribution system and above all no accessibility to their so called representative,” Mr Choudhry remarked. He observed that the state and the Srinagar city in general and particularly the Amira Kadal constituency has loss so many years to modernize amenities because of lack of political direction, official lethargy and corruption. Taking dig on the government over power
crisis he said the down turn in power scenario is a direct result of misgovernance, wrong priorities and inefficient management of the state’s economic resources. Referring to Amira Kadal constituency Mr Choudhry said that said the youth are the worst victims of the government’s policy of nepotism, favoritism and corruption and more particularly, their present so called representative in the assembly seems more concerned about his party politics and strengthening of his roots rather than concentrating on the people who had reposed trust in him by giving a mandate to mitigate their sufferings. Hailing the efforts put in by the Pradesh Congress Committee leadership particularly its president Prof Saif-u-Din Soz, Mr Choudhry said that given the contribution of the party leadership, it is most likely that the party will emerge as a single largest party in coming elections.
