Ethnic Minority Scholarship Directory 2022/2023
Private & International Schools
The Zubin Foundation’s Ethnic Minority Scholarship Directory 2022/2023 (Private & International Schools) has been created in hopes of supporting ethnic minorities in Hong Kong discover, apply for and get scholarships, awards and bursaries. It has been shown in our research1 that there are missed opportunities for English language education for ethnic minorities in Hong Kong.
This directory aims to make it easier for students from marginalised backgrounds to identify appropriate scholarship programmes offered at Private and International schools and to ease the financial burden of their school’s education.
NOTE: If any links are broken, you may perform an internet search using the name of the school and scholarship to see if the link has been changed. Scholarship requirements and deadlines are often changed from year to year. Be reminded to double-check all information with the school directly. If you find any errors, please email us at oppbank@zubinfoundation.org so that we can update the list.

Ways to help The Zubin Foundation & Ethnic Minority Youth & Acknowledgments
Foreword
It gives me great pleasure to launch Hong Kong’s Ethnic Minority Scholarship Directory (Private & International Schools).
Hong Kong’s Private and International Schools offer some of the best education available globally at both the primary and secondary level. Most of these schools operate in English and offer globally accepted curriculum. All have been granted permission to operate as schools by the Education Bureau and many have been given free land by the HKSAR government. As part of their land leases, many have agreed to giving a certain percentage of places to financially deserving students. We hope this Directory helps outreach to those Hong Kong students in financial need.
On the flip side, Hong Kong has one of the greatest Gini coefficients in the world. This means that we have a large gap between the rich and the poor and in the case of ethnic minorities one in four live in poverty. Given that 96% of Hong Kong’s population is made up of ethnic Chinese, it makes sense that the vast majority of public schools operate in Cantonese. This is a problem though for the South Asian population, where 87.8% of them speak English as their usual spoken language but only 40.5% speak Cantonese.2
The aim of this Scholarship Directory to put the supply of scholarships that Private and Internationals schools have to offer in one place so that English speaking ethnic minorities who qualify for scholarships are able to easily access them.
The Zubin Foundation’s outreach to the ethnic minority community is wide and we look forward to many of them applying to some of the best Private and International Schools in Hong Kong, receiving a world class education with a scholarship and meeting their full potential.
Thank you to all the schools that participated and Swire Trust for their support.

Scholarship Application Tips and Tricks
• Confirm you are eligible for the scholarship and meet all criteria.
• Gather certificates and letters of recommendations at the earliest.
• Order a sufficient number of transcripts, especially before the school year ends.
• Some schools allow applications for multiple scholarships. Make sure you take advantage of this where possible.
• Start to apply early prepare in advance and give yourself enough time to complete the application
• Keep track of which scholarships you have applied for and their deadlines on an excel sheet
• Only apply to scholarships and schools where you can commute.
• Ask for feedback on any essays from peers and teachers, and make sure they are proofread thoroughly.
• Do a practice/rough copy before completing the real application.
• Practice interview skills beforehand.
• Understand any contingencies of the scholarships. For example, some require you to study for a year or two before you apply; graduate from their school; or you may have to repay the scholarship.
• Contact schools if you are unsure about scholarship details.
• Give priority to scholarships that have a smaller applicant pool and multiple awards.
• Know that you are important and worthy regardless of the outcome of your scholarship application or your grades!
