WAT moet je weten voor gaat lezen? Gizmo’s, gadgets en widgets, dat zijn allemaal Engelse woorden voor de allernieuwste technische snufjes en handige hebbedingetjes. En Gizmo doet erg zijn best om die dingen uit te vinden. Maar wees gewaarschuwd! Het pakt niet altijd even goed uit.
Handig hulpmiddel Als je dit boek leest, kom je waarschijnlijk af en toe ook Engelse woorden tegen die je nog niet kent. Dat geeft niks! Aan de kaft zitten apjes die je kunt uitklappen. Daarop staan woorden die belangrijk zijn voor het verhaal. Lees ze vooraf rustig door. Je zult merken dat je het verhaal dan veel beter begrijpt. Als je aan het lezen bent, kom je die woorden vanzelf tegen. Let op! De woorden staan niet in alfabetische volgorde, maar in de volgorde van het verhaal.

Hoofdstuk 1 Waarin Gizmo zijn familie aan je voorstelt en hij een robotmuis uitvindt. In een grote kast met heel veel laatjes bewaart Gizmo allerlei handige onderdelen. Die gebruikt hij als hij gaat uitvinden. Hij heeft verschillende soorten tandwielen en radertjes (cogs en sprockets), hij heeft aandrijfriemen (belts) en knopjes (buttons). En soms is een stopcontact (socket) wel eens handig of een zwengel (crank). In de grote kast van Gizmo zit het allemaal.

Plus I’ve learned a lot from my family. ‘Watch and learn, Son,’ my dad says. And I do. I know I can be a great inventor too.

Of course there’s more to a Robo Mouse than just its looks. It still had most of its
wires and workings inside. So, with the help of a few plans and diagrams, books, a lot of thinking, a bit of help and some of my useful spare parts, I invented a mouse that could run forwards, zoom backwards and spin round and round. It could and

It had three speeds: Fast. Super Fast. And Really Super Fast.
