’Zwolle, that’s a fun, stylish city’ That is what I often hear from people who are visiting us for the first time. More and more these are conference visitors, who get their impressions during a well-organised conference, well catered for, with good food and a good bed. Since last year I’m the ambassador of Congress City Zwolle. With pleasure, because promoting our unique selling points is not all that hard. Those USPs are solid as a rock: the city combines an area of several square kilometres with a number of excellent locations for conferences. Zwolle is also improving its accommodation facilities by the day because more and more hotels are being built. The centre of the city will surprise newcomers with its beauty, and is very compact on top of it. You can organise the complete radius of action a conference visitor has to cover within walking

distance, if you would like to do so. This compact area also provides direct connections to roads and railways. And you can get to business well prepared in Zwolle, because Congress City Zwolle is the professional organisation that is ready with information and advice. Dat hoor ik vaak van mensen die voor het eerst hier komen. Steeds vaker zijn dat congresgangers, die hun indruk opdoen tijdens een goed georganiseerd congres, perfect verzorgd, met lekker eten en goed slapen. Sinds vorig jaar ben ik ambassadeur van Congresstad Zwolle. Met plezier, want het uitdragen van onze unique selling points is niet zo moeilijk. Die USP’s staan als een huis: deze stad combineert binnen een gebied van enkele vierkante kilometers een aantal uitstekende locaties voor een congres. Ook voorziet Zwolle, door de komst van steeds meer hotels, met de dag beter in de overnachtingsbehoefte. Het centrum van de stad zal nieuwkomers verrassen door haar schoonheid en is bovendien erg compact. Je kunt de complete actieradius van een congresganger op loopafstand organiseren, als je zou willen. Ook heeft dat compacte gebied directe aansluitingen op wegen en spoor. Experience the history Zwolle is a Hanse town full of history. And much of this has been well preserved. The Great Church, the Peperbus (lit. the Pepper Pot), the Sassenpoort, the canals and the typical squares of the city, lend Zwolle its own charm. The city is unforgettable attractive. From the Middle Ages onwards Zwolle has been giving hospitable shelter to merchants and visitors from all over the Netherlands and Europe. And today the charm of the past is combined with the excellent hospitality of today. And our nickname ‘blue fingers’? We owe that to the fact that once upon a time the citizens of Zwolle sold a clock to the city of Kampen and were paid for it in copper coins. Counting these gave them blue fingers.

In 2009 was ik betrokken bij de organisatie van een 2-daags congres voor Fysiotherapeuten in Zwolle. De deelnemers waren enthousiast over de bereikbaarheid, de stad en de accommodaties. Het initiatief Congresstad Zwolle ondersteun ik van harte, omdat hier enorme kansen voor Zwolle liggen. Dat betekent wel dat er op verschillende terreinen goed moet worden samengewerkt. Met name op het gebied van zalen, hotelaccommodaties en zeker ook parkeren. Maar daarvoor is nu Stichting Congresstad Zwolle in het leven geroepen. Naast culinair en sportief kunnen we Zwolle dan ook als congresstad op de markt zetten... Zwolle Ambassador Gerard de Jong. Taking into account the huge transport problems, participants from the North-East of the Netherlands have to leave home early, often even on the previous day. In 2009 I was involved in the organisation of a 2-day conference for Physiotherapists in Zwolle. The participants were enthusiastic about the accessibility, the town and the accommodations. I fully support the Congress City Zwolle initiative, because there are enormous opportunities here for Zwolle. That means that proper cooperation is required in several areas.
