1 Digital Design - Portfolio Semester 1, 2018 Yilin Zhao 940641 Han Li Studio 17
Reflection:
In the Digital design study, I learn many new things and design skills from lecture and workshop, such as 3D print, the use of grasshopper and unreal engine. Furthermore, the guidance of tutor and teacher in workshop help me a lot to understant and using those software. Thoese skill also is great helpfull for my other course, and I believe that the development of those skill has positive impact on my future architectural learning. Overall, in this course, I gain various useful and new skill and knowleged within a short timeframe, and I am pleased and quite satisfied with the my performance during this semester. In the furture learning, I will make persistent efforts.

Diagramming Design Precedent
The exterior of Serpentine gally pavilion is a very simple enclose retangle structure, and in its centre has a interior open garden. The design of the roof is projecting inwards from the walls, and there are benches under the roof for visitors to have rest.
In the process of my modelling, I mainly adopt loft and offsetsurface to make the module in Rhino.
The key concept of this project is to learn the importance of therehold. The threshold in this architecture is an important parts. It connects one space to another. For example, in this architecture, pathway between exterior doors and interior doors has play the role of threshold.

Every single 2D pattern has 4 hollowing out triangles on its surface, and those little triangles can allow the light to come the waffle structure

My final surface decision is 1.1 and 2.4 and others are test for my decision. For the panelling, the final decisionis 3.4 which is the combination of 3.1 and 3.2, and befor that I print the unrollsrf of 3.3, since the patterns is too complicate and small, and also some part is hard to fold and stick, so I did not choose 3.3 as my final model pattern.

Platonic octahedron is used as main pattern of the 3D model. The exterior of booleaned geometry is simple square that can make a large and open space
The exterior of the 3D print structure is “L” shape
This is a 150x150x150 bounding box, and it shows that the size of the 3D print model is approximately 8% of the box
The interior structure of geometry create many darker surface

Task
The final decision of grid Manipulation for my 3D print model is 1.4, and others are test for my model. For the platonic octahedron distribution, I perfer the regualr geometry distirtudion so I finally choose 2.4. I also choose 3.4 as my final modle, because the size of every octahedron varies from big to small on the regular basis compare with 3.1, and the distribution is very regular and concise compare with 3.2 and 3.3.

Queen Victoria Garden Pavilion
This pavilion have three main different highth entres which show the hierachy, and can allow visitors coming different direction .The exterior surface is consisted by different size of close and hollowing hexagons which can provide vistors with different light and visual effect. Inside of the pavilion has differenet seating place for people have rest , and centre of the avilion provide a place for an evening quartet performance. The pavilion has waffle structure to support it.
This pavilion adopt three main materials(glass, timber, marble). The exterior is made by white painted wood which give poeple a light feeling, and waffle structure is use woodcolored wood. Between the exterior surface and waffle structure has glass level. It can be a good measure for water proof and still keeping light effect. seatingplace and ground are made by white marble.
