Happy Summer Patients and Readers! (a few words from Uncle Henry)

Hope all of you are recalling yet another safe and fun fourth of July that we all recently celebrated. Here at the magazine we gave a lot of thought to what that holiday really means beyond the fireworks and family cookouts. This issue is dedicated to the fact that we need to celebrate our independence everyday - and sometimes recognize our lack of independence in some ways. Victoria Lee (1000 Watts Magazine Staff Writer) wrote an article specifically dedicated to the lack of choices that we face when it comes to healthcare independence. Why can’t we choose to medicate and heal ourselves the way that we want to? Why are we DEPENDENT on the government and Big Pharma to tell us what is right for us? It’s a good read that will make you think! And hopefully stay fired up to keep making change! Also, the 1000 Watts Crew was at the Home Grown Maine event and the CWCBE event in New York City which we share with you in short recaps in this issue. We had a great time at both events and met some really great new people and shared some laughs with old friends that we see often at shows.Speaking of Home Grown Maine, our strain review of “Chernoble” was generously offered as a treat to try for a review. Much thanks there! Now, the fun part! Keurig cannabis in a cup in the morning? Really? Meet Scott Rossini who introduces us to the “CannaCloud System”, this could be your new beverage to start your day! Yup, cannabis in a cup! Then we have Shira Adler who talks about natural healing just the way our ancestors did - very informative read there, thanks Shira! We also have 2 great product reviews from the generous folks at FLYTLAB! They let us review the Lift Pen and the Fuse e-Hookah. The office staff and myself really appreciated the opportunity to try out these awesome products. Trina and Lucy were totally stoked about these FLYTLAB products and are still talking about them! Our caregiver this month is a local grower named Master Grower P who we got to hang with a couple of times for some photos and a brief chat. This guy is a tech buff and totally obsessed with the beauty of going from seed to medical flower each and every day. Also, grower Scott Cambra is back with a follow up from his last contribution where he introduced us to the “pinwheel”. I could go on and on...this issue has some great canna cookout ideas, a contribution from our Canna Care Docs team and much more. I really hope that you enjoy this issue and take a moment to reflect on what our independence means to each of us all year long, not just once a summer. We are getting there slowly but surely - let’s all stick together and keep the faith and keep believing. Happy medicating, stay hydrated, stay well, and much peace from all of the 1000 Watts Crew! And before I forget, there will be another New England Dab-A-Doo event this September 2016, we haven’t ironed out the final details yet but keep it in mind and check the website and Facebook for upcoming details. Thanks for reading!

Forget Them NOT by John Dvorak

T

hese are heady times indeed. Billions in legal sales, millions paid in taxes, thousands fewer arrested, medical moving mainstream and states growing hemp! We are approaching critical mass thanks to the cumulative efforts of countless individuals, many who are no longer with us. As we rocket into the hempen future, we must remember those who sadly will never see what they foresaw. In 2015, Dave Wilkinson, one of Maine’s most dedicated and beloved cannabis activists, suddenly passed away, leaving a hole in my heart and in the movement that he cared so much about. When I attended cannabis events in Maine, Dave was there with a kind smile and sage advice. He exemplified the giving spirit and fierce dedication to freedom that so many of us have. Others that have touched me over the years include the Hemperor, Jack Herer with his tireless campaigning and groundbreaking book, Michael Malta’s larger than life King of Pot (KOP) persona, the dogged determination of best selling author Peter McWilliams, Kentucky firebrand Gatewood Galbraith, Richard Davis and his USA Hemp Museum, Dr. Tod Mikuriya’s medical research, Cheryl Miller’s continued activism despite being immobilized by MS, Ben Masel’s freedom fighting in the Midwest, expatriate Eagle Bill vaporizing tourists in Amsterdam before vaping was cool, Denis Cicero’s out of this world hemp-centric Galaxy Global Eatery in Manhattan, Bike Mike Sutherland riding throughout China encouraging hemp enterprise and Canadian activist Michelle Rainey’s ubiquitous “Medicinal” slogan. While these warriors passed before their time, it is especially hard when the youngest are taken from us. Cashy, Spencer and Cyndimae, you are tiny icons that will never be forgotten. Your parent’s canna-courage helped you but couldn’t forestall the inevitable. Our tears of sadness and memories of good times strengthen our resolve to fight until all patients, farmers and prisoners are free to utilize cannabis hemp to its fullest extent.

1000 Watts Magazine recently had the pleasure of spending time with Master Grower P to check out 3 amazing grows and a boatload of technology. What is your name? Master Grower P

How many years have you been a caregiver? Been helping friends for almost two years.

How many patients do you currently have? I have a handful of friends my age with different medical issues.

What is your motivation for being a caregiver?

First myself, not to put myself first, but without it, I couldn’t bear the day. Most of all it’s been awesome helping out my friends and getting them through their medical issues, considering most have never tried different strains before and seeing the positive results has been awesome .

Master Grower P

State of your operation? Massachusetts.

What do you use for nutrients? Why that product? REMO NUTRIENTS is what I’m using now, I’ve tried a few before, but now seeing is believing.

What would you say are your favorite strains? Why?

Have to say without a doubt NEBULA. It’s just AWESOME if grown right, excellent THC levels around low to mid 20’s and a good punch of CBD, mine was 0.24% and was to die for .

What do you find to be the most useful piece of equipment you have purchased and why?

Would have to say all my equipment plays a major part in working together to grow quality cannabis, but I’m loving my new PLATINUM LED lights.

Blackberry Dream approximately 5 weeks into veg.

Strawberry Stardawg by Master Grower P

What specific illnesses do your patients have? (please do not include names).

Well to mention a couple: PTSD, Chronic pain, severe pain caused by fused bone operations etc.

How do feel that you have helped your patient’s illnesses/ailments?

Until I tried it myself I didn’t think it worked but that all changed a couple of years ago upon getting my medical card and it’s been awesome to help my friends out.

Do you prefer to grow Indicas or Sativas? Why?

To tell you the truth I feel you really need them both to function through the day, but I’d rather grow Indica or Hybrid strains. Sativas are great but take a lot longer to grow and more time for things to go wrong.

What process do you use to grow? Sealed Co2 fed and fully monitored.

What type of lighting do you use to grow?

Now I love the PLATINUM LEDS, I’ve grown with them all but loving what LEDS are doing. Right now to me PLATINUM LEDS with 12 band spectrum seems to be making growing stress free.

The 5x5 tent contains strains such as Strawberry Stardawg, Blue Dream, Alien OG, Double Alien 18, Captain Cook, Blueberry Gum and Girl Scout Cookie. GSC is above at 4 weeks into flower. The other tent houses a rare automatic collection as well as Gorilla Glue, Purple Pineberry, Sherbert Cookies and Blackberry Dream. As one crop is rotated out, the next is ready to move. Master Grower P is a rare seed collector and technology buff constantly trying new products and experimenting to get his grow to it’s optimum potential.

Do you grow from seeds or clones? Why?

Seed. I like to keep different strains going and to stay on top of the new strains coming out all the time.

What are the most difficult challenges you have faced as a caregiver? I mean, I’m lucky because I help out my friends, meaning they’re all around my age and share some of the same medical conditions.

Do you prefer hydro or soil? Why?

I prefer soil it’s the way I’ve always grown, to me it’s more natural.

Do you flush your plants before you harvest? And if so, for how long?

YES! I flush for as much as two weeks, very important for flavor.

How do you feel about Compassion Centers and Dispensaries?

Wish they were like out in the far western states, but I’m sure we’ll catch up sooner or later. Master Grower P helping the 1000 Watts Crew out with some lighting changes for the photo shoot. Shown in front of him is Blue Dream.

Smoke Weed Every Day by Geoff Charles

H

ere’s good news for people who smoke pot for no other reason than to get high, which is what I do.

Most pot smokers don’t smoke because they have glaucoma, multiple sclerosis, AIDS, heartburn, constipation, or wax in their ears. They don’t smoke because it’s good for anxiety, multiple personality disorders, sociopathic behavior, blood clots, rotator cuff tears, or scoliosis. Admit it. Just like me, most people smoke weed to dance among the clouds with the gods. Not God. The gods like Thor, Zeus, or the goddess Venus. Nobody smokes to have a one on one game of Chutes and Ladders with Jesus. They smoke to listen to the blues, to heavy metal, to intense jazz or even fusion. Smoke a bomber sometime and listen to the Count Basie orchestra. I was blown away in an auditorium by the Basie band after I did multiple bong hits in the ramp where I parked my car. I even took the checkered flag at Lime Rock raceway driving an open wheel formula car after smoking a chunk of hash the size of Cleveland. I say all this because the State of California, a state that ought to be a separate nation from the rest of this fucked up country, is finally going to squeeze the trigger and make recreational use of marijuana the state motto. I suggest something simple like, “Smoke weed everyday”. Imagine. All those upper 1%ers, their asses parked in multimillion dollar Malibu beach front properties, will finally be able to wake and bake without fear the PO-PO will haul their uppity asses down to the county lockup for blowing smoke up into the already polluted airfields hovering over their cribs. Riding the Pacific Coast “Highway” will finally live up to its name and become a religion meant to be worshiped every sunny Sunday morning, whether it’s on a hog or inside a Ferrari.

Here’s something you might not know: as long as we’re talking 400 tons of monstrous lizard,we’re still drinking dinosaur pee. Earth’s water system has been an enclosed reservoir for the last gazillion years. That means dinosaur whiz is recycled, right through your Brita water pitcher filter in your fridge. Anyway, if you want to use weed recreationally without the hassle of ignoramuses in state legislatures or bald headed octogenarians sitting behind the benches in courtrooms giving you the side eye, move to where your freak flag can fly without being torn down by ignorant, uniformed moon goats with a badge or by legislators with ant sized brains and beer bellied egos. Friends of mine have done just that and now live in places where their property is sun kissed jungles of plants and buds. Grow outdoors and see what I mean. Do it right and you won’t have pounds, but tons of mind dancing, mood altering weed that will make a believer out of you. Yes, Happy Valley is for real and the motto is engrained in the soil, the water, and the sun that says, “Smoke weed every day.”

PS. You won’t need a “card” either.

Most Californians smoke like chimneys anyway. Yet, there are still a few square jawed, jacked up, John Laws who haunt the highways and byways looking to ruin someones day. Maybe, just maybe, they can give up their addiction to steroids long enough to quell their tempers, as cops in Amsterdam do, by smoking a bowlful before they go on duty. Blowing past one of these badged junkies with a joint between your fingers and a mile wide smile on your face will be worth every single recreational second of your life. You don’t have to live in a gulag. You can always pack up and move your ass someplace where you won’t face court costs and jail time just for growing and smoking a goddamn weed that’s been popping out of the earth since dinosaurs pooped mountains of one hundred percent pure natural fertilizer. Can you imagine the potency, the power of the buds, back in the Jurassic period? Marijuana plants the size of redwoods would have sprawled from one end of the earth to the other. Buds would have been the size of Toyota Rav 4’s.

The Patent on Cannabinoids: An Informational Article about THC and CBD. by Canna Care Docs Team

F

or decades, cannabis has been stigmatized in mainstream media, commonly listed alongside dangerous drugs. The extent of propaganda that was used to tarnish the reputation of cannabis, and all who used it, propelled that stigmatization throughout the United States. (Anyone remember Reefer Madness?!) So here we are, decades later, with a surplus of cannabis’ medicinal benefits unveiled to the general public. States after states are beginning to implement medical marijuana programs and mainstream media, finally lifting the figurative curtains of propaganda and mentioning cannabis favorably. What most people don’t know is that the United States Government actually filed their own patent on cannabinoids long ago on April 21st, 1999. The US patent focuses on the cannabinoids antioxidant and neuroprotective capabilities. It states that cannabinoids contain properties that make them useful in the treatment of a variety of oxidation associated diseases, which include, age-related, ischemic, inflammatory, and autoimmune diseases. As a neuroprotectant, for example, it limits the amount of neurological damage in cases following a stroke or trauma and it has also proven useful in the treatment of neurodegenerative diseases, such as Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, and HIV Dementia. The United States government has acknowledged that there are medicinal benefits of cannabis, enough for them to put a patent on cannabinoids, and are beginning to peel back the layers of propaganda revealing the true nature of this oftentimes misunderstood plant. Various institutions, most which use their own private funding, have been conducting research on cannabinoids and are unearthing more and more evidence cannabinoids have an even wider range of medicinal properties. They are also proving that different strains are even more beneficial to certain types of diseases and symptoms. There are various cannabinoids each with their own unique medicinal benefits. This article will be focusing on the 2 most widely known, THC and CBD.

1000 Watts Magazine Series 6 | Issue 41

Chemical Compound of the Cannabinoid THC

Tetrahydrocannabinol, or THC as it is most commonly referred to as, is the most well-known of all cannabinoids. In fact, it is regularly used with cultural and social significance. THC is the main psychoactive element within cannabis, thus it is responsible for the euphoria, or the “high” people experience. If someone suggests they are “stoned” (we prefer the term Medicated), it means they are currently enjoying the psychoactive effects of THC. In higher doses for inexperienced users, THC may bring about hallucinations and closed eye visuals. So, if you are just starting to medicate, it is best to always exercise caution and test your tolerance. Beginners may find themselves dealing with anxiety if they overdo it when in the early stages of medicating. Moderation and patience is key! While the psychoactive elements of THC are mentally therapeutic for some, they are only one of the effects of the THC cannabinoid. THC also reduces pain, acting as an analgesic and making cannabis a great and arguably a much safer alternative to opiates that are all too commonly and perhaps sometimes recklessly prescribed. THC can also prevent or reduce vomiting and nausea, so this could prove useful to those suffering something as simple as the stomach bug to something more serious and dire such as the side effects of chemotherapy or alcohol withdrawal.

Chemical Compound of the Cannabinoid CBD

CBD, or Cannabidiol, is the most well researched of all the cannabinoids. There are lots of medicinal benefits that CBD offers users. It can be used as an analgesic to relieve pain. It is also antibacterial, effectively killing or slowing the growth of bacteria. It can reduce blood sugar levels, making it an effective anti-diabetic treatment. Others may utilize CBD as an anti-emetic, reducing vomiting or nausea. For those with epilepsy, CBD is also an anti-epileptic, meaning that it reduces seizures and convulsions. Due to the fact that epilepsy can really take a toll on one’s ability to function in day-to-day life, it is certainly a useful medicinal supplement for those suffering epilepsy. CBD can be anti-ischemic, meaning that it reduces the risk of artery blockage. It is useful as an anti-inflammatory as CBD has also proven to reduce inflammation. CBD is anti-proliferative which means it inhibits cell growth in tumors and cancer cells. It can also treat psoriasis, making it anti-psoriatic as well. CBD can be used to manage psychosis as an anti-psychotic as it can have a tranquilizing effect. It can also suppress muscle spasms. Agents that suppress muscle spasms are known as antispasmodics. It reduces contractions in the small intestines which means CBD can act as an intestinal antiprokinetic. CBD can also help relieve anxiety, making it a useful anxiolytic.

But the benefits don’t stop there, CBD (as far as the most recent research indicates) has the most medicinal benefits of any of the cannabinoids. It can be used as a bone stimulant, promoting healthy bone growth. It can also be used as an immunosuppressive, which means it reduces function in the immune system. (This would be useful in the case of preventing a body from rejecting an organ from a transplant.) CBD can also be used as a neuroprotective as it protects the nervous system degeneration process. The cannabinoid CBD clearly has a vast array of medicinal purposes, and the future looks bright in further research on this great medicine. While it is possible to single out which one would work best for certain conditions, it is important to point out that all cannabinoids work best together, also known as the Entourage Effect. This is a term for the way different compounds in cannabis interact with each other. This concept is still being studied, but research shows that cannabinoids are more effective in treating ailments when they remain together. This is why pharmaceutical variations of cannabis containing only one or two cannabinoids are less effective as methods of treatment than whole plant medicine, regardless how it is consumed. Even the lesser known cannabinoids play a significant role in medicinal cannabis when they are able to work together.

CHERNOBYL

by The 1000 Watts Crew

If you like Sativa dominant strains, then Chernobyl is one for you. Even if you’re not a big Sativa “freak”, this one is worth a try. This particular sample was given to us by a Maine grower and caregiver that we met at the Home Grown Maine show back in the beginning of June. Chernobyl was originally bred by TGA Genetics using Trainwreck, Jack the Ripper, and Trinity. When growing Chernobyl, you can expect a nice, tall plant and a decent yield after approximately 60 days of flowering. When medicating with Chernobyl, you can expect a lemon/limey taste. It is definitely a potent strain, so a little goes a long way. It works great in stressful situations because it almost immediately starts working by calming your nerves and bringing you to a relaxed state of mind. Patients dealing with depression, PTSD, chronic stress, and anxiety should definitely give Chernobyl a try. You can also use it to help with tremors, nerve pain, and nausea as it also seems to work in helping calm and control these symptoms. One of the downsides to the Chernobyl is that after a couple of hours, when the effects start to wear off, you can expect to feel a little tired and you may just want to relax on the couch for a while….or you can always just medicate a little more!

1000 Watts Magazine had an amazing opportunity to review 2 awesome products from our friends at FLYTLAB. Highly recommended, check out the details below and HUGE thanks to them for letting us check out the Lift Pen and Fuse Pen.

The generous sample we received from FLYTLAB included not only beautifully packaged pens - both the Lift and the Fuse as well as some really fun company swag like keychains, stickers and other goodies.

LIFT by FLYTLAB by Lucy Watts

F

irst, I’d like to say thank you to FLYTLAB for sending us their product for review. The new LIFT comes in a small black box that includes the LIFT itself, an extra mouth piece, 2 different cleaning tools, a charger, and the product manual. The LIFT is a smaller version of the H2FLO that was previously created by FLYTLAB. It can fit easily in your pants pocket, shirt pocket or your clutch. It also has a switch blade type mouth piece which allows you to push the mouthpiece down when you’re done using it and it easily pops back up when you want to use it again. The first thing you need to do with your LIFT when you get it is charge it! Plug it in and wait until it is fully charged before using it. Once that part is out of the way, it’s time to get it ready for use. The LIFT is extremely user friendly and will vape your medicine at your desired temperature. To begin using the LIFT, take your medicine and grind it down. Once you have ground your cannabis, unscrew the mouthpiece and fill the ceramic chamber. As you will see, there is a mesh screen at the bottom of the chamber so that your medicine doesn’t actually touch the coil which will give you a more flavorful experience. Once your chamber is packed, screw

the mouthpiece back on and turn on the LIFT. To turn it on, simply click the button 3 times. Once it is on, you will see that the button will start to turn different colors. This is so that you can pick the temperature you want to vape at. The LIFT has 3 temperature settings: Blue (low) 185⁰; Yellow (medium) 215⁰; and Green (high) 225⁰. When the desired color of your temperature comes up, simply press the button to select it. The LIFT will then turn red to let you know that it is heating itself to your desired temperature. Once the light turns to the color of your temperature, it is ready to use. When you are done, simply press the button 3 times to turn it off. Don’t worry if you forget this step as the LIFT will shut itself off after a determined amount of time. This was my first time using the LIFT or any product created by FLYTLAB and I must say that I was impressed. I’ve gone through at least 20 vaporizer pens since I started using them to medicate and I must say that so far, this is definitely my favorite. It is less than 4” long and fit perfectly in my little carry bag. I carted it and used it up and down the streets of NYC and no one was the wiser as to what it was. I tried all 3 temperatures and will tell you that I definitely enjoyed the vape from the low and medium settings. I wasn’t too keen on the high setting as the flavor of my medicine changed to a burnt taste at that temperature. Besides that, it’s a great vape pen and definitely a piece you should own if you enjoy vaping.

The new LIFT comes in a small black box that includes the LIFT itself, an extra mouth piece, 2 different cleaning tools, a charger, and the product manual.

FLYTLAB *NEW* FUSE E-Hookah by Trina Watts

I

am in absolute love with this pen!! FLYTLAB THANK YOU for allowing us to try the NEW Fuse E-Hookah Pen!!

This isn’t your typical Hookah pen, this contraption does it ALL! From e-liquids to concentrates and EVERYTHING in between! If you haven’t heard about the New Fuse E-Hookah pen, be sure to go check them out at www.flytlab.com . I promise you will not be disappointed! FLYTLAB Fuse pens come with 4 cartridges for your e-liquid. So you can either double up on one flavor or mix and create the flavor you like best. For those who medicate with cannabis flower, no worries, this pen comes with a dry herb cartridge and a concentrate cartridge. So they truly have you covered for all your vaping needs. They also provide you with a small bottle for goof proof filling of the cartridges, cleaning tools, a small dabbing tool for those who medicate with concentrates, and a charging device. Be sure to fully charge your Fuse pen before use. The charging indicator at the bottom of it’s handle will turn green when it is ready for use.

Concentrates are a great vape with this pen. The cartridge is large enough to fit almost a gram of shatter per fill. The coils in the cartridge heat up and melt your concentrate at the exact temperature needed that gives you a flavorful hit that we all look for when vaping concentrates. Wait, what? NO TORCH OR RIG, again… no problem! Overall, I must say that I have used many different pens throughout the years and I have been using e-liquids and medicating with cannabis. This pen has brought vaping to a whole new level. I have so much fun when using the Fuse pen and it was a new experience entirely for me vaping dry herb or concentrates from the same pen that I can also use my hookah e-liquids with. I can honestly say that the new FLYTLAB Fuse pen is now by far, my favorite pen of them all.

I would say this pen is great to use in a social setting or in the comfort of your own home. It’s handle is pretty large in size so it makes it a bit hard to use discreetly in a public place. When inhaling from the Fuse pen the bottom lights up and it even makes the sound as if you were hitting a water bong which is quite comical. The Fuse E-Hookah pen would definitely make a great addition to any social event which allows Hookah and/or medicating. The Fuse pen allows you to mix two different e-liquid flavors at a time. So, the amount of flavors you can actually create and vape are ENDLESS. My favorite flavor, that I love to vape, is a mixture of sour apple and watermelon. No adjustments are needed with the Fuse. You get a nice and smooth inhale every time without the harsh cough that comes with other vape pens. Now for the real fun!! Bring on the CANNABIS!! This pen burns DRY HERB so smoothly and delivers a powerful punch without you even realizing it. You can get about seven to ten great hits off of each fill of dry herb which does the job. No papers, blunts, or wraps… No problem! I believe that vaping your medicine in its organic form is by far the best way to medicate.

The Fuse E-Hookah does not fall short on options. Endless combinations for concentrates, dry herb and e-liquid flavor cartidge options plus a nice assortment of accessories. This kit has it all and does it all.

Let’s Take Back Our Medical Independence!

by Victoria Lee, 1000 Watts Magazine Staff Writer

#Freetheflower

18

1000 Watts Magazine Series 6 | Issue 41

T

he 4th of July, Independence Day. It’s a time people look forward to cookouts, parades, fireworks and family reunions. It’s the day we gather to celebrate our nations freedom. Many gatherings involve adults who like to revel in an alcoholic beverage or two… or ten, while others choose to sit back and enjoy a nice healthy dose of their favorite strain of cannabis. The ironic part about this though, is that these people who choose to smoke weed in celebration of our freedom, will be risking their own freedom by doing so. The 4th of July is the day the 13 colonies claimed their independence from England, and.…ZzzZzzZzz…What? Oh, sorry for the history lesson people but long story short, it led to the formation of the United States of America. The 4th of July is the day the Declaration of Independence was signed. So Happy Birthday America! You’re 240 years old this year, you old thing you. Even though we love to celebrate our country’s freedom, this holiday makes you take a second to reflect on freedom. What does it really mean to be free? We as a country are one of the freest in the world, or so we’re told... But, if you want to get technical, according to the Human Freedom Index; global measurement of personal, civil, and economic freedom, the good ol’ U.S. of A. ranked 20th on the list of the freest countries. Be assured that I am very grateful for the freedoms we have, I’m also disappointed in the rights we don’t yet have. We are definitely lacking in certain rights and freedoms. One freedom I want to talk about in particular is in relation to our healthcare. If we are such a free nation then why are we forced into certain forms of healthcare? Why are we fined and taxed if we choose not to have healthcare? And why should we be banned from growing cannabis and hemp if that is the type of treatment we wish to use? I believe people should be able to choose whatever form of healthcare they want, whether it be western medicine, which most of America is forced into, or alternative medicine. There are numerous forms of healthcare and treatment options out there. Massage therapy, acupuncturists, naturopathic, homeopathic, herbal and Chinese medicine, oh my! And the list goes on and on. Seriously though people, go

online, search alternative medicine, and see what you come up with. There are so many different forms of alternative medicine then I ever thought possible, I didn’t even know half of them existed! But with all these different forms, we are still forced to obtain health insurance, which, pretty much doesn’t even cover us if we want to turn to certain alternative routes. Yup, that’s right, unfortunately, most health insurance’s don’t cover many alternative medicine practices (if any at all), and the few that do usually have very high out of pocket expenses. Still, our health insurance doesn’t dictate whether we can medicate naturally, alternatively, or with their “choice” of western medicine, but they do make it almost impossible for the people of the lower to middle class to be able to choose these types of treatments. To be able to seek forms of natural treatments, which are not covered by health insurance, people have to pay for it out of pocket, on their own. This can get very expensive and unrealistic to people who are a lower income. So in my opinion, it seems the government is indirectly stomping on our medical independence here. We, as citizens, should be able to specify if we want to medicate with plants. That’s exactly what people did before western medicine and pharmaceuticals. We should be able to medicate with the same plant that so many past presidents and government officials used themselves! One plant in particular I’m talking about has become an increasingly popular controversy… Yes everyone, I’m talking about CANNABIS! Marijuana, Ganja, Weed, Mary Jane! However you want to refer to Reefer, (see what I did there.. WINK ) it is a plant which more and more people are seeking to use for medicinal purposes. Many states have legalized the use of Medical Marijuana, which is great! But if patients are eligible to use medical marijuana, and if doctors are recommending it, then we should have the option to choose a form of health insurance that covers it or be allowed to grow our own supply. Marijuana is a plant… let me say that again, it’s a plant. Stay with me here, it’s a weed. It grows out of the soil into a beautiful…PLANT! My point here is that this PLANT is so much more cost effective, environmental friendly, and healthy for the world then their pharmaceutical approach is. The pharmaceutical companies are billion dollar industries, and these pharmaceutical drugs cost “millions” to make. Big Pharma claims they spend so much money on research, which they may, but in reality they spend almost twice as much money in marketing for their products then they ever do on the research. Even with all the money they spend, the profit they make is ridiculous. In the United States we pay far more for brand name prescription medications than anywhere else in the world. Hhhmmmm… seems kinda sketchy to me. Don’t even get me started on Martin Shkreli, that douche bag CEO of Turing Pharmaceuticals. He jacked up the price of a certain lifesaving drug about 5000%!!! Nope, that’s not a typo, he increased the price of Daraprim (a drug used mainly for people with weakened immune systems) from $13.50 per pill to $750 per pill! Martin Shkreli’s response at the Forbes Healthcare Summit in New York “I would have raised prices higher,” he told an audience, “That’s my duty.”.. Wait, what?!? Seriously! What a piece of shit this

19

guy is! He’s capitalizing on the sick, the weak, and the poor. These are the type of people our “wonderful” health care system works with. Yeah, I’m sure they have our best interest at heart, I’m sure they genuinely care about our health… Not! Aside from that moron, my question for our healthcare professionals is: if pharmaceuticals are so much more expensive to produce, then why wouldn’t they want to allow the patient a form of medicine which would cost everyone less in the long run, for example that plant I talked about earlier, cannabis? The medical industries’ excuse for this is that there is not enough research on alternative medicines to prove they work. So until that is done, we probably won’t have this type of medical independence. If this is the case, then we the people should be pushing for research on cannabis and other forms of alternative medicine. If we are being forced into healthcare and health insurance, then we should

have the right to choose whatever healthcare and health insurance options we want. We should not be limited to Western Medicine and Big Pharma. The majority of pharmaceutical companies are marketing schemes dressed up to look like health and wellness. They are a mirage; marketed to sway your opinion in their direction, for their benefit, not the benefit of the patient. Not everyone wants to use conventional medicine as their form of treatment, and not everyone wants health insurance for that matter. Individuals should have the freedom to choose which form of healthcare they want covered by their insurance, instead of having it imposed upon them. Please join the health freedom movement. Help support the National Health Freedom Coalition in their mission to promote access to all health care information, services, treatments, and products, which people think would benefit their own health, regardless if it is with alternative medicine or not. We need take back our medical independence!

The Future of Cannabis by Scott Rossini

M

y experience with cannabis started over a decade ago. It was homecoming night, the football game had just reached halftime and my friends and I snuck off into the woods. Hiding in the darkness, we nervously sparked a joint, passing it around. Coughing fits ensued as we awaited our first high; though several of my friends were giddy and giggly, I felt normal. I’d heard that sometimes people don’t get high the first time, so I tried it again a couple of weeks later: that’s when I experienced my first high. Since then, I’ve smoked cannabis using a variety of methods, including joints, blunts, bowls, bongs, grav hits, steam rollers, and vaporizers. While I enjoy smoking cannabis in different ways, I feel that vaporizing cannabis is the healthiest and most enjoyable way. I believe that vaporization of cannabis will become more popular in the future—let me tell you why. Recently, I attended the New England Cannabis Convention (NECANN) in Boston. Numerous innovative cannabis smoking devices were on display, including several vaporizers. Amidst the smorgasbord of booths showcasing various smoking methods, one caught my eye and drew me in: the CannaKorp booth. I was immediately struck by the product design of the vaporizer they were featuring. It was sleek, and yet understated. I engaged in conversation with a representative of the company, I was eager to learn more. The vaporizer that was on display is called the CannaCloud system, and, after learning more, I am sure this is the future of cannabis consumption. The CannaCloud system is a vaporizer like no other. Dubbed the “Keurig” of vaporizers, the CannaCloud system offers users CannaCups, which contain pre-ground, labtested, high-quality cannabis. The CannaCups come in various potencies and flavors, and slide easily into the bottom of the vaporizer. The state of the art technology of the CannaCloud prepares your cannabis perfectly in just 60 seconds; at the same time, recording and storing valuable information in cloud storage. The information stored helps users keep track of their past use, allowing them to obtain specific highs to alleviate

22

1000 Watts Magazine Series 6 | Issue 41

a variety of different problems. For example, if a user wakes up one morning with back pain, he can consult the cloud storage to identify which CannaCup he used in the past for this ailment. Users are also able to easily re-order CannaCups through the CannaCloud system. Moreover, the CannaCloud appeals to all generations. Older folks can use it to medicate discretely and pay attention to dosage, while younger users can sample a range of CannaCups of varying flavors and potencies, including “Cannabis Cup Winner” CannaCups and “Kief” CannaCups. And, the ease of use of the CannaCloud is appealing to all. Simply put, the CannaCloud system is the future of cannabis: it’s healthy, it relieves pain and provides pleasure, it’s easy to use, and it’s “smart,” storing users’ preferences along the way. The CannaCloud’s streamlined design allows it to take up residence on the kitchen counter, on the dining room table, in the office, by the pool. After leaving NECANN, I couldn’t stop thinking about the CannaCloud system and how it will revolutionize the cannabis industry. As more awareness and buzz builds around the CannaCloud system, the excitement for the vaporizer to hit the market is palpable. When I think of the future of cannabis, I see the CannaCloud. Excitement from the older generation, who want to try a more holistic route to pain management instead of using pharmaceutical concoctions. Excitement from the younger generation, who look forward to the new technological advances this device will bring to the cannabis industry.

CWCBExpo NYC 2016 by Lucy Watts

(Paramus, NJ, June 2016)—For three days, the Cannabis World Congress & Business Exposition (CWCBExpo) at the Javits Center in New York, was a hotbed of business activity when nearly 4,000 attendees (almost double attendance from last year) came to learn, network and build relationships in the country’s fastest growing industry. The leading event for medical marijuana and the legalized cannabis industry, CWCBExpo NY, took place June 15-17 at the Javits Center in New York and garnered major media and audience attention including coverage from ABC News, Associated Press, BBC News, Bloomberg, Business Insider, ESPN, Forbes, Fortune, Huffington Post, MarketWatch, New York Daily News, PBS, Sports Illustrated, Reuters, WealthDaily, and included a special appearance by Gary Johnson, the Libertarian presidential candidate.

1000 Watts Magazine was in attendence at the Cannabis World Conference and Business Expo in New York City.

This year’s CWCBExpo NY increased its attendance with attendees coming from the tri-state area as well as Canada, New England, and the Rust Belt states including Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Pennsylvania and Ohio. “The explosive growth of our audience is testament to the fact that the East Coast is fast becoming a major area of interest and business for the cannabis industry. People came to CWCBExpo NY to learn, network, and discover new business opportunities in the emerging legalized cannabis industry,” said Christine Ianuzzi, Show Director, CWCBExpo NY. CWCBExpo NY attendees also came from Asia, Australia, Europe, and South America with all business segments represented including entrepreneurs, private equity, grow sites, dispensaries, medical professionals and service providers including consultants, lawyers, accountants and realtors. To rousing applause, Gary Johnson said during his special address at CWCBExpo, that if he were elected President, he would completely remove marijuana as a classified drug.

The Stanley Brothers began breeding for high-CBD cannabis strains in 2009, shortly after their entrance into the medical cannabis industry. Their purposes for doing so were to find more benefits from the plant’s compounds, specifically for patients who didn’t benefit from psychoactivity as well as for the potential anti-tumor properties suggested by many preclinical studies. The Stanley’s CBD project became known as the Charlotte’s Web™.

Keynote addresses by Keith Stroup of NORML and Leonard Marshall, Super Bowl Champion, were also well received at CWCBExpo NY, along with a thought-leadership panel on “CTE, Concussion and CBD” featuring NFL greats Jim McMahon, Leonard Marshall and other pro athletes. “Industrial Hemp: Made in America” was another thoughtleadership panel that was featured along with over 100 speakers and more than 70 sessions with vetted industry experts and innovators in the CWCBExpo NY conference. The industry’s leading businesses, experts, and advocacy groups participated in CWCBExpo NY including sponsors Brain Unity Trust, Coalition for Access Now, Realm of Caring, CW Hemp, Elixinol, and CannaKorp and product and services companies showcasing everything from cultivation to retail products including greenhouses, grow lights, extractors,

In recent months, current and former NFL players have come out in support of cannabis as a treatment for chronic pain and brain injury. At the CWCBExpo, former Denver Bronco Charlie Adams was a part of panel discussion on “CTE, concussions and CBD” moderated by Leonard Marshall, a former New York Giants player and co-founder of the Brain Unity Trust.

Ancient Healing Modern Wellness by Shira Adler

The use of essential oils combined with CBD in proprietary blends holds the promise of helping users cope with an assortment of physical and emotional issues including anxiety, depression, recovery from cancer treatment, PTSD, autism, and many more medical and lifestyle afflictions. The sense of smell, like your sense of taste, is part of your chemosensory system, or the chemical senses. Your ability to smell comes from specialized sensory cells, called olfactory sensory neurons, which are found in a small patch of tissue high inside the nose. These cells connect directly to the brain. From a developmental perspective, smell is the dominant sense in children between birth and twelve years of age. It’s also the only scent that actually targets our emotional receptors in the brain. If I say apple pie, your first response is usually, “reminds me of home,” or “makes me happy.”

the world around you and encouraging love, forgiveness and honesty.

2. SAGE - An herb from which oils are derived from the flowers & leaves. Excellent for sores, bacterial infections, bronchitis, rheumatism, arthritis, sprains, fibrositis and as an astringent. Most commonly thought of as the “clearing” spray used by Native cultures to dispel darkness and negativity, and invite in light. On an emotional level, sage is powerful in alleviating confusion, discouragement, feeling hopeless and blocked confusion. 3. BERGAMOT - Oils are derived from the peel of the fruit of the tree. Excellent for fevers, acne, tension, wounds, coughs, stress & as an anti-depressant. Emotionally Bergamot is the “oil of self-acceptance” and great with releasing feelings of despair, low self-esteem, self-judgment, being unloved and hopeless.

It makes sense then, that our scent receptors are capable of eliciting some pretty powerful kinesthetic responses when called upon in a health and wellness setting. In fact, research has shown that essential oils in combination and alone have healing properties that are quantifiable and clinically proven to help manage and improve mental and physical well-being. While most of us are familiar with the obvious “scents” of lavender (for relaxation) and peppermint (great for nausea and stomach ailments), the list of essential oils and their benefits from which aromatherapy as a field is derived, is more vast than one can imagine. Here is an overview of some familiar or often used EOs (essential oils) and their common uses*:

4. VETIVER- This oil comes from the roots of the grass. It’s excellent for nervousness, insomnia, as a muscular relaxant and antiseptic. Emotionally vetiver helps you feel more rooted in life, bringing you gently down to the core issue and though them, alleviating feelings of apathy, despondency, disconnection, stress & crisis.

1. GERANIUM - oils can be derived from leaves, stalks & flowers. Excellent oil for depression, menstrual problems, diarrhea, diabetes, neuralgia, circulation issues, eczema, sore throats, nervous tension, kidney stones. On an emotional level, geranium is perfect for the child or the inner-child making you feel more open and trusting of other people and

5. YLANG YLANG - oils are derived from the flowers of the tree and are great for people with palpitations, anxiety, depression, high blood pressure and as a sedative and general tonic. Emotionally, Ylang ylang is powerful as a heart remedy reconnecting an individual with the essential part of their soul, addressing feelings of joylessness,

25

high stress, grief, sadness, loss of a loved one or being disconnected from the inner child. 6. FRANKINSENCE - oils can are derived from the tree bark. Excellent for sores, wounds, fevers, coughs, colds, stress, bronchitis, laryngitis, nervous conditions and tension. On an emotional level it is about creating new perspectives by clearing out spiritual darkness and barriers from the mind and heart. It clears feelings of spiritual disconnectedness and creates a male/father energy feeling of protection. For those of us in the East, and no, I don’t mean India or Thailand but New York, the idea of cannabis consumption for anything other than recreational use is still fairly new. At least, it’s new to most of us whose back-in-the-day experience with cannabis included doing illicit things behind closed doors - usually involving an AC/DC album cover, some pretty gross looking dirt weed, and more seeds than can be found on a poppy seed bagel (another NY tradition). So, it’s with a certain amount of joy mixed with cautious optimism that I have been able to combine the use of essential oils in an aromatherapy blend with CBD in spray form to create a new product line of that’s already showing extraordinary results in the field. Called “Beyond the Spectrum”, the line currently comprises five sprays: Clear, Center, Nurture, Inspire & Smile. Each of the sprays is made of a proprietary blend of 4-5 pure essential oils along with a healthy dose of CBD, which is acting as a super-charger to bring out the best and most enhanced efficacy possible in each blend. Called “Beyond the Spectrum”, the line currently comprises five sprays: Clear, Center, Nurture, Inspire & Smile. Each of the sprays is made of a proprietary blend of 4-5 pure essential oils along with a healthy dose of CBD.

Andy Kadison, my partner and co-founder of T3C Ventures, a NY based cannabis wellness company, adds: “Beyond the Spectrum has been designed to help users manage everything from depression and anxiety to sleeplessness, cognitive disruption and PTSD. Beyond the Spectrum encourages anyone in the mainstream to take a hard look at ancient healing as a way of transforming themselves in a gentle, therapeutic, non-invasive way.” Beyond the Spectrum’s newest formulation “Smile” is based on my observation – much of it first hand – that children and their parents are coping with many more emotional and environmental related stress factors then we remember growing up. In fact, I affectionately refer to my youngest child as being “beyond the spectrum”. The phrase was meant as a catch-all to describe any behavioral, emotional and sometimes biochemical challenges that seemed out-of-the box and a bit hard to manage. Smile is designed for the “on” and beyond the spectrum child. This includes Indigos, Crystals, “special ed” students, sensory sensitive and autistic children, along with the adults, educators and caretakers whose primary mission in life is to help these children find normal – in whatever way they can. For child and grownup there is a shared experience: feeling the same toxic environmental, emotional and physical stressors, but demonstrating different responses. Each of the sprays are designed so each of them would elicit a specific response in the user based on their need state:

CLEAR: A spray for stress relief. Designed to release whatever is bothering you, whatever stresses you’re carrying. Really good for clearing and cleansing a physical space office, home or on the go. CENTER: A spray to help reduce anxiety, PTSD, trauma - any experience that makes you feel disconnected and out of your body. Excellent for remedying your “headless chicken” moments and feeling more like yourself again. NURTURE: A spray to help manage emotional imbalances. When you’re feeling depressed or depleted nurture helps strengthen and fortify your sense of worth and belonging. It feels a yummy hug.

INSPIRE: Excellent to enhance focus, clarity and purpose. Works to clear the mental cobwebs & a great sleep aid when you need your brain to quiet down.

SMILE: Supercharges your mood while calming and soothing your spirit. Perfect to help manage ADHD, feelings of disconnection and a lack of focus. Great for children especially those on and beyond the spectrum & their parents and caregivers.

The similarities between cannabis and aromatherapy are hard to ignore. Aromatherapy is the “other” plant based all-natural ancient health and wellness tool that has been proven over millennia to help users overcome a lengthy array of maladies and conditions. In fact, prior to Western medicine, aromatherapy was a “go-to” choice among healers in all cultures and geographies. Even today, it’s one of the only modalities to effect change on all three levels of your

1000 Watts Magazine Series 6 | Issue 41

being: mind, body & spirit, simultaneously. It makes sense that the best way to find and combine essential oils is to follow the similar protocols that makes the proper cultivation and growing of cannabis so important. Essential oils should ideally be ethically harvested, organic and indigenous to the regions from which they derive, if possible. The light that grows them, the food that feeds them and the soil that holds then is of paramount importance. Even where they’re grown matters. For example, vetiver from Sri Lanka has a higher vibrational quality than that found in other countries. The how an oil is grown and harvested in plant form directly correlates to its efficacy and potency in liquid form – sound familiar? Why all the big fuss then if essential oils and cannabis have been around for thousands of years? The reason, according to Andy Kadison: “We are at a crossroads in culture, where the mainstream is beginning to understand the need to go beyond preconceptions of how medicine – in this case western medicine – is showing up in our lives. Many of us believe traditional medicine is getting it wrong. We are being over medicated and under treated, with mental health sufferers probably experiencing the biggest disconnect between treatment and wellness. The idea of cannabis as savior might be an oversimplification, but in combination with other healing modalities like essential oils provides an entirely new and exciting approach to wellness. For the deeper chemistry aspects of our work on the entire line and in particular the CBD enhancement, we sought the expertise of Jocelan Carmichael founder of Seattle’s own Botanical Health Care. Jocelan is a woman whose profound healing experience from death’s door / hospice care for stage 4 cancer has led her to becoming a renowned cannabis expert, pharmacist and advocate for cannabis healing across the country. Making Weight by Scott Cambra

and got them to fill out and grow a sustainable root mass. At this point they are about three feet tall each but very, very thick stemmed and heavily branched. Now the time to flower comes, but like I said there were only three, his room is set up for twelve pretty large plants and this grow needed to be as big as possible. He has real patients to worry about who cannot afford retail costs from the few dispensaries they have and because of the mite situation, they were getting panicked. The first thing about this venture that made me feel good was that Joe is not an amateur grower he is accustomed to large growth, big lights and controlling his environment so there was never a question about if he could feed and care for them properly because it was my face on the videos so we had to have a mutual trust and faith in each other to pull this venture off.

Dedicated to a plant rescue through some major challenges.

A

bout four months prior to this grow my closest friend Johnny and I went to visit another good friend Joe. He had a really nice grow (12 plants) or so, flower going on, with some nice buds, big buds, but he was covered with a mean mite infestation and this was already his third run where he had them come back on him and all because, his former mentor handed him infested clones, a true mite sniper set up his star student for failure.

So the day comes when it’s time to flatten them out; they had branches over an inch thick and they were never intended to be flattened so after we potted them up from 10 to 15 gallon pots the whole situation turned into a game of wrestling these things into submission. We cracked branches, electrical taped them back together and hooked them up to the metal stakes and wired circles for tomatoes to help balance and keep the canopies even, it was tough and my back felt like it was going to explode but in the end we had laid out about 6 foot round canopies out of each plant! And to top it off nicely he had 4 brand new 1,000 watt hortilux bulbed HPS light fixtures hanging over the whole area. 4 thousand watts, brand new bulbs for 3 plants so lighting…check.

Fast forward a month and I get a phone call from Joe, he tells me he shut down and was finally cleaned out and has no choice but to really pull a great harvest. Believing in the system and the fact that he only had three plants, he said he was willing to help me prove that flattening them out would be highly effective and wondering if I could give him a hand. A few people had made comments here and there after the “Pushing the Limits” article, that I had never done big plants and maybe it could not be done to a larger plant. Well, he told me that not only are they huge, they are not even close to set up to be flattened in the manner I was accustomed to doing, so we had our hands full with this one. The ultimate test, not only were that these plants also started in DWC with a smaller root mass (at least they were very healthy and clean plants), they were misshapen for our purpose and very, very thick everywhere, not the pliable supply plants I was accustomed to flattening out. Willing to take the challenge and get an early harvest he said It was like starting two foot tall clones and sometimes that doesn’t go very well, but thankfully they were strong and Joe is a very skilled grower. He coaxed their root mass into a sustainable system in a matter of about a month or so

29

Now they were all tied down and you think it would have been the end, but it was really just the beginning. Joe became obsessed with getting every top into the light so, after the plants had settled into their new horizontal shapes, he began fine tuning and defoliating them while re-aligning the poles to better suit the plant’s needs. This became much easier after the excellent job of defoliating Vicky Lynn did, he was able to see where the branches needed to go, so he slowly and methodically separated the spread and aligned every branch on every plant until it was exactly where it needed to be. He was able to do this so well because he really had a true understanding of the process. Every week I would come back to do the update videos and lend a hand where needed. And for the first few weeks he had made some key drastic changes to the layout that allowed them to really reach their full potential. They started eating so much he was feeding them five gallons of fluid a day each! The early bud growth was just phenomenal. The total canopy at this point for those three plants was about 18 feet x 7 feet wide solid! Right around week 5 in flower we started noticing that the growth was plateauing out some, they were dark and healthy, in the beginning I had thought that maybe 15 gallons would not be enough. When we pulled them they were full but not bound up. In the end he ended up doing excellent as everything is drying as I write this we do not have totals yet but already just from the harvesting we know he did very well, enough to put him back into a position to give his patients much needed relief. In the beginning it was little more than an opportunity to hone my craft and do something undone previously but his need and desire to help others made this a much more enjoyable venture. Now that we have been setting up plants for few months, for a proper larger pinwheel, we will take what we learned from these “rescue plants” that would have otherwise been tossed out in the trash and apply it to all future grows because in reality they ended up training us as much as we trained them, I don’t think a properly trained plant, like all of the next ones are, could possibly give us something we could not handle, these three really pushed us to understand and improve our method and show the world that is in fact does work pretty well on large plants, so in the end, we made the weight we needed to but, there is still work to be done to reach maximum potential, they still produced excellent but when you’re making weight you always want to make more.

Basically take your time and make sure that the hole is small enough to keep it airtight and angled enough so water doesn’t come out of it. 4) Now it’s time to make sure that you fit the zucchini in the top perfectly so that it is airtight and if you need to make it fit better you can always use the leaf of the papaya as I did. 5) The last thing to do is pack some pakalolo and fire up that Hawaiian goodness. So listen up closely because this will be a life lesson you for sure want to learn and I promise the bong that we made that I’m going to share with you will be by far the tastiest bong you have ever smoked out of. Let me get started with what we are going to make because it is simple, easy, fun when you’re in Hawaii plentiful and abundant. Yes that’s right ladies and gentlemen we made the pineapple bong but not just any pineapple bong this Pineapple Bong was made 100% from the island, so you could say we were smoking organically on that beautiful sunny day. Let me break down what you will need and how this device is made. First and foremost you are going to need a pineapple of course papaya stem because they are hollow on the inside and make the perfect natural downstem for any bong. Then you are going to need some sort of a mouthpiece and we decided to use a zucchini and we secured the zucchini airtight into the top of the pineapple with the Tea Leaf that was left over from using the stem. You will also need an avocado to take out the pit and carve it into a bowl. The last couple of tools that you will need are a few different sized knives. I used the lighter bro along with a few knives we had at the house.

I swear every time that I go out to the islands I always have a blast meeting the most amazing people and create some kind of unique, new and crazy device with friends. Whether we are in the jungle on the top of Diamond Head at North Beach or the volcanoes on the big island we are always having a blast and living that high life each and every single day. I want to encourage everybody out there to go try something new, go smoke somewhere new, make a device that you have never made before and share it with friends. I would love to see pictures of your adventures and the devices you come up with. Who knows? Maybe I will even feature some of them on my social media outlets. If you want to submit your images feel free to shoot them over in an email to masterbong08@yahoo.com and I will make sure that we post the dopest submissions. Stay Blessed & Highly Favored my fellow MacGyvers, until next month this is MB signing over and out.

Let me break this down step by step how to make the pineapple bong because yes, it is simple but if you have not made one it’s always nice to have some instructions. 1) Take the pineapple and hollow out the center so that you can fill it with water and create the bong.

Who Made the Potato Salad! Your Summer Guide to a perfe Canna Cookout by Vioria Lee, 1000 Watts Magazine Staff Writer

Note: the recipes for Cannabis butter and Cannabis cooking oil are very similar.

Ingredients:

1 lb unsalted butter with a high fat content or 2-4 cups of Olive Oil 1 Oz Decarboxylated Cannabis ower (preferably) or 2oz decarboxlyated trim 4 cups of water (at least) (for butter only)

Hardware:

Summer is upon us and what better way to kick off the summer than with a cannabis cookout! I’m going to give you a recipe for cannabis butter, cannabis olive oil, and cannabis mayonnaise. What do these three things have to do with a cookout you ask?....Everything! By making these three components, you can create so many of your favorite BBQ and cookout dishes. But before we get to that, to the recipes! First, in order to make the most potent Canna Butter or Canna Oil, aside from having great product, is utilizing the process called Decarboxylation. Decarboxylation is essentially the process of removing the acid from marijuana’s chemical compounds. When raw, the chemical compounds in marijuana referred to as cannabinoids are in an acid form, which means they are inactive, or less active. By removing the acid with the process of decarboxylation we release the full potential of marijuana’s psychoactive effects. If you choose to use the process of decarboxylation: Preheat the oven to 240 degrees F Break or cut up the cannabis ower or trim you wish to use in your butter or oil, and evenly spread it out on a baking sheet. Bake for 30-40 minutes stirring every 10 minutes or so; to ensure it toasts evenly. Once this is done, let it sit for about a half hour to allow the vapors to settle. After that you can pulse it in a food processor if you wish, or cut it up so it is coarsely ground, you don’t want a ne powder. Now that this is done we can get to making Canna Butter and Canna cooking oil.

Strainer or cheese cloth (whichever you prefer) Grinder or scissors (again whichever you prefer) Wooden spoon to stir Crockpot A glass bowl An elastic band big enough to t around the glass bowl

For Canna Butter:

1. Put about 4 cups of water in the crockpot and turn on low then put 1lb of unsalted butter into the crockpot and let melt.

For Canna Olive Oil:

1. Place 4 cups of olive oil in the crockpot.

For both methods:

2. Add in 1 oz of roughly ground cannabis or 2 oz of roughly ground trim. 3. Let simmer on low setting for 4 to 24 hours stirring every 20- 30 minute if possible. 4. Make sure the cannabis is fully submerged in the butter and/or oil off of the bottom of the pan. 5. Once you have simmered your cannabis for your desired amount of time it is now time to remove it from the crockpot. 6. Take your glass bowl and put your strainer on top, or use an elastic band to fasten cheese cloth on top. 7. Pour the contents of your crockpot into the glass bowl. The ground trim/cannabis will be caught in the strainer or cheese cloth. 8. Undo elastic and ring out the cheese cloth or strainer so you get most of your oil or butter out, be sure to be careful, you don’t want to burn yourself.

For Canna Butter:

9. Let the contents cool and place in the refrigerator for 24 hours. 10. After 24 hours the butter will be separated from the water, take out the butter on top and dispose of the waste water at the bottom.

For Canna Olive Oil:

9. Let the contents sit at room temperature for about 24 hours. So, now that we have our cannabis cooking oil, we can make our cannabis mayonnaise.

Ingredients:

1 egg 1 egg yoke 3/4 cup cannabis oil 1 teaspoon yellow mustard 1 teaspoon lemon juice salt and pepper to taste

Direions:

Combine the egg, egg yolk, lemon juice, and mustard in a bowl or food processor. Stir/ blend until it’s smooth. On low speed slowly pour the cannabis oil into the blender as the mixture emulsiies and thickens. Store in a glass container and let refrigerate for 24 hours.

Once you’ve followed all these steps you can nally use your Canna butter, Canna oil, and Canna mayonnaise to cook many of your favorite dishes. So as far as your cookout goes, you can use your Canna butter to butter your corn or put it in your cookies. Or, for us New Englanders, use it to make a nice chowder, have a clam boil and use it to dip your steamers in. You can use your Canna oil to make a tasty infused salad dressing, use it to grill your veggies, or use it in your chicken or steak marinade. Finally, as far as the Canna Mayo goes, you can use it on your burgers, French fries, salad dressings, egg salad, or everyone’s favorite at the cook out: POTato salad! Hope you guys enjoy these recipes! Just remember, take caution when eating edibles. You don’t want to make your whole cookout with medicated foods. If you do you’re going to have a lot of baked people and you’ll run out of food really quick.
