Our family would like to extend a warm welcome to our 2025 Buckskin Bull sale with the same progressive herd improving bulls as we’ve made over the last 18 years! We offer a great opportunity to find the bulls you need at affordable prices & sincerely appreciate the business over that time. We recognize the draw of other bull sales, so the confidence & loyalty that our customers have shown us, is genuinely valued when placing your trust in our genetics. Thank You.
As in previous years and in testament to their geographical do-ability, our bulls are raised here at home on the eastern grasslands of Vancouver Island and then winter developed at the Semlin Valley Ranch in Cache Creek BC. A huge thank you goes out to both Pam, Jordan, & their staff at the ranch for their help & effort developing our bulls for a sale ‘just up the road’
We take pride in our sire groups and uniformity of our bull pen, with the goal to sell only working bulls of the utmost quality. We are as proud of the last bull in the ring as the first, and this ensures everyone has an opportunity to own superior bulls at reasonable prices. With markets staying strong, resilient, profitable; and with a definite female shortage in the continental supply, it is a great time to invest in exciting new genetics for your herd.
As always, our focus is the commercial cow/calf producer, whether it’s herd improvement or terminal for the bottom line, our goal remains the same… to produce easy fleshing, muscular cattle, that carry outstanding maternal traits on arguably some of the strongest feet around. We believe that good walking cattle breed better & add more weight which is what our offspring have become known for. The bull sale decisions begin on the 1st day, if we have to help with the calving, they do not make the sale. Equally important, is the vigour the calf displays upon their birth, under maternal cows doing their jobs…we want the calf up and milking quickly, where these bulls are

made so the work is done for you, not you workin’ for them.
We use walking herd sires ourselves, only using AI on proven bulls. Doing this ensures that we are A. offering bulls that are dependable with “real world” functionality & B. we can back up the docility, fertility & genetic features. We’ve saved the foot comments, as every entry has the strong feet of a breeder bull. They live on their feet and if they aren’t good enough after winter feeding, they go for a ride. Of note, we do not use any recipient cows or raise any calves this way, all calves are bred, born, and raised to their own dam… what you see is what you get from those genetics & that’s our guarantee from our cow herd to yours!
We love SIRE groups and feel this is a great way to allow buyers the opportunity to prospect the bulls in comparison for their particular needs. We have 4 sire groups this year introducing our newest Outcross sensation out of the black SAV President sire, is our Chancellor 2107K, a wonderfully built, quick growing chunky monkey herd sire. After moving him from heifers to cows last year we have our outstanding Home Run 117J, our stalwart Apex 82G and our big boy legendary patriarch himself, Bono 215D who walked his last grass last year.
We have some excellent help this year for our sale. Please contact myself or Craig for any assistance. If you should have any questions, we’d be happy to visit anytime.
Please contact us for a tour of the bulls beforehand & join us on sale day for our legendary BBQ & social!

Calving Ease is often related to the birth weight of a bull, and while this is partly true, there are other factors that influence CE. The dam and her management are at least 50% to 60% of the CE. The consistency & consideration of the following will also influence birth weight.
◆ BW’s of the sire and dam
◆ BW epd
◆ CE & Maternal CE epd
◆ Sires calving inclinations
◆ Sires physical confirmation
◆ Nutrition, gestation, environment & latitude
◆ Breed composition
◆ Hybrid vigour
We rate each bull in the sale based on our recorded information & personal knowledge of our herd . Each year, one of the more frequent questions is which of bulls will work best on their heifers? Of course, only that person inherently knows their own heifers enough to make that call. We try our best to evaluate each bull in our sale to assist you in your choices, using our guidelines of:
* Cow Bull
** For use on Cows & larger framed Heifers

Home Run was a feature calving ease sire at McMillen’s in 2022, whose dam is a standout Redemption daughter. This young stud has sired a very strong set of daughters and calving ease with built-in maternal strength and solid performance. His calving ease is top notch and the daughters in our herd are absolutely beautiful big bodied easy keeping and perfect uddered. Phenotypically and pedigree wise, we can’t make ‘em much better if you’re looking for an elite calving ease, high end maternal sire. Unfortunately we lost Home Run to an accident just before breeding last year and these are his last male offspring to come to market.

Bono 215D was an outright standout lower bw specimen maker here at Heart of the Valley for the last 8 years after we selected him to come and further our herd program in building some of our absolute perfect footed, beautiful uddered cows. He is an undisputable Foot Improver, & was the type that only come around the seed stock industry once in a blue moon & we knew it. We’ve had nothing but excellent reviews back from previous customers of both sons & daughters. Here in his working clothes, he still retained a wonderful stride and profile as he aged on, while maintaining as lovely a docile friendly character as we’ve had the pleasure of walking our grass. These are his last natural bred calves, but as we believe so highly in his offspring we’ve froze semen on him for future generations.
Welcome to the 4th Annual Buckskin Bull Sale. Wow, what a run the cattle industry has been on. It’s nice to see ranchers/farmers get paid for all their hard work and perseverance.
This year we stepped out and tried our hand at showing. We entered Farm Fair and the Alberta Select Single Bull Show. We were very happy with our results ending up in the top 10 at the Select Show. It was exiting to be in the ring with some of the top breeders from across Canada, as well as meeting fellow breeders and commercial cattle ranchers from far and wide.
It was a fun experience in all making new friends and chatting will old friends, and it’s nice to hear what people see in the cattle you have there.
With that said we are very excited with the bulls we have on offer this year. We have bulls for everyone; we feel this year if you are looking for performance cow bulls or bulls to breed heifers we can suit your needs. We even have 2 year old bulls this year.
So we are looking forward to see you sale day and have a visit or a chat on the phone if you can’t make the sale. Here’s to a healthy and successful calving season to everyone.
Sincerely
