A library on the beach: re-fresh yourself and enjoy reading Reading habits are a routine for some people, while some others spend their vacation in other relaxing activities. Also children when are on vacation like and need to rest for a while, dedicating a little of their time in company of a book. We see people that look for books, magazines and comics, even crosswords and sudoku. They to buy them at local bookshop or at newsagents. We wish to help tourists that are atTrebisacce by inviting them to visit us and to use our “Biblioteca da spiaggia�. The Beach Library

3. FOR WHAT? Origin of the problem to be solved and its context Passaggi Onlus encourages cultural and educational initiatives and promotes. The initative: ‘‘A beach library”. The project is based upon the idea of making culture and education, something familiar. In my town, I have noticed a relapse into local illiteracy . On the other hand, we have realized the refusal of meeting new cultures. Although the people of South Italy are said to be open and warm towards the others. In Trebisacce there is not a frequent cultural exchange , as far as is concerned material and immaterial goods, like books. In the end, It is understood that the passion for reading books is not really widespread.


5. WITH WHOM? Human sources, team or/and staff to develop the project The staff of Passaggi Onlus, the people that are active in the project “Entrepreneurship and Youth: Sharing creativity and social Initiatives” and some volunteers in a synergic intergenerational collaboration promote and encourages cultural and educational initiatives for . ‘‘A library on the beach” project. The municipality of Trebisacce is one of the main supporters of the PITT project, from the economic point of view, with the aim of enhancing the local tourism in Trebisacce.

The local Authors. The regular tourists. The new tourists. The Municipality of Trebisacce. The local shopkeepers. The local touristic resorts (restaurants, pubs, hotels, hostels..). All the citizens of Trebisacce .


6. WHERE? Venue and spaces available to implement the project In a kiosk located in a shadowy spot on the famous “Lungomare di Trebisacce� (sea promenade) is allowed to use by the municipal district of Trebisacce. There will be tables, comfortable outdoor chairs, beach umbrellas. Book will be displayed in wooden box, those used for vegetables and fruit. Colors and gadgets will be symbolic signs of reading and books.


7. WHEN? Time, duration, periods, phases, etc.

The initiative lasts for the Summer 2015, it can be extended to autumn if it is successful and might be repeated next year. The intention is to promote the spirit of enterpreneurship among the youth. Open hours: morning and afternoon, also some evenings during August.


8. HOW MUCH? Objectives that must be achieved and number of activities to be completed The idea is to offer a lending book service, a small library in the open air, near the beautiful sea of Trebisacce. • Objectives: To widespread reading habits. • To encourage youth to read more. • To help tourists to find a spot to read • To exchange books and reading experience. • To create a friendly place for readers. • To attract cultural tourism in Trebisacce


9. HOW? Methodologies to be used, techniques, tools, etc. The books will be lent and a deposit of 2,00 Euros will be required as a symbolic sum of money that will be given back, with the addition of 0,50 Euros , in order to promote the civil return of the book itself. A peculiar section of the library will be filled with books of local authors. Most books are donated by Trebisacce citizens. Visibility action will be done, such as announcement in the local media, social media and word to word (passaparola) communication.


10. WITH WHAT? Resources, materials, funding, etc.

Passaggi’s own funds Logistic help by the Municipality Donations Volunteering work

Donation of books by local readers, friends, authors.


11. HOW TO SHARE IT? Visibility and dissemination of results.

Visibility action will be done by The local media, Social media, Posters around the town, in tourist places and facilities, Word to word (passaparola) personal communication.


12. HOW TO EVALUATE IT? To monitor the project and evaluate its results. Thel responsible of the project cn make changes after the observation of visitors and ÂŤstaffÂť

Evaluation Qualitative: A questionnaire for likes e and dislikes of the service will be given to visitors. Quantitative: The people that come back to ask for more books or just to talk about what they read.
