Sky Katz
N
urturing an impressive body of work that encompasses television and music, Sky Katz has established herself as one of Hollywood’s most promising talents. Sky stars as the scene-stealing confident and highspirited neighbour Tess, on Disney Channel’s hit series Raven’s Home, a spinoff of the iconic sitcom That’s So Raven – now in its third season. While she lives down the hall from her best friend, Tess is a perennial visitor in Nia’s home. As a contestant on season 11 of America’s Got Talent, Sky wowed the judges and audience with her impressive rapping skills and freestyle. This fourteen-year-old free spirit immediately caught media attention. She has performed on MTV’s TRL and Summer in the City, Harry, and Arthur Ashe Kids’ Day. Influenced by rap musicians from across all

generations and styles, this hip-hop recording artist hit the ground running in the music industry since discovering her talent and passion at the age of 5. Sky continues to keep the momentum up, releasing original music including her latest hit ‘Saucy’; ‘Like This’ featuring. Lil TJay and ‘Fall Back’, where she made her directorial debut behind the camera for its music video. Earlier this year she lent her talents to the track ‘Party with Me’ for Disney Channel’s live-action movie, Kim Possible. The Long Island, New York native is a member of the American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers (ASCAP). Outside of entertainment Sky is committed to philanthropic work and is the National Ambassador for Sunrise Association. In between filming and recording in the studio, she’s an extremely talented basketball player who enjoys spending time with her family, friends and 3 dogs.

When did you realize you wanted to be a rapper? I’ve wanted to be a rapper for as long as I can remember. I was taking the mic at parties starting when I was around 5-years-old and it always felt right to me!
Sky Katz, actress or rapper? How do you balance both? Both things make me so happy and I hope to have opportunities to do both for a long, long time. I try to manage my time to fit them both in.
How did it feel to have Simon Cowell say you were the coolest 11-year-old in the world? It would have been amazing to hear anyone say those words but even better from Simon who has a reputation for being so harsh!
What motivates you? I’m motivated by trying to do my best at whatever I’m doing in the moment.
Can you tell us about your experience rapping for Kanye West? It was crazy. He was very kind and so encouraging. When I asked if I could rap for him, he said ‘sure, as long as you can rap to this beat playing in the store’. What is it about Nicki Minaj that has her as your top choice to collaborate with? She’s always been my favourite. Nicki is a strong woman who’s known to be such a boss and her flow is amazing.
Where do you get your inspiration from? I get inspired by the people I admire in the different fields of what I enjoy doing. When I’m rapping I’m inspired by the music I’ve been recently listening to. When I’m playing basketball, I’m inspired by the great players I’ve watched. And when I’m acting, I’m inspired by the performances I’ve watched and try to learn from them. Is there something you want to communicate with your music? I just want to make music that makes people happy, want to dance and want to hear more.
Who were and are your musical influences? I’m influenced by the old school greats like Biggie, Nas, Lil’ Kim and the current greats including Nicki Minaj, Cardi B, J. Cole, Megan Thee Stallion, and so many more. What has been the greatest experience you have had so far? I’ve had so many amazing experiences, but the greatest so far was at my show this summer in NYC. Being on stage performing to a packed theatre with dancers and fans dancing along to my music was truly incredible! What do you like most about this profession? I love that you can always do different things and being unique is a valued good thing. If you could jet off to anywhere in the world to play a show, where would that be? I’ve always dreamed of going to Asia. I hope one day I can visit and perform there. That would be amazing.

What are your career aspirations? I aspire to do it all. I want to tour, be in movies and I’d like my Disney show, Raven’s Home, to go on for many more seasons. Where do you see yourself in the next five years? I hope to see myself continuing to do what I love. A lot of music and acting projects. What would you ask yourself that we haven’t asked you in this interview? I would ask myself, ‘If you couldn’t be an entertainer, what would you want to do for a living?’ My answer would be that I’d be a graphic designer. I love to use all the editing tools and create digital art.

When did you realize that you wanted to be an illustrator? Well, that was around the time of my graduation from University (I finished Faculty of Journalism), when I realized that I didn’t want to make journalism my full-time job. So, shortly after graduation, I began to study conceptual graphics. Actually, I had studied drawing and painting for about 7 years during childhood in a school of arts. So, that was not something absolutely new for me. In fact, I just returned to the thing I had been doing before. What drew you to fashion illustration specifically? I was always fascinated by the world of fashion, because of its aesthetics. Poses and clothes. Atmosphere and concepts. Colors and fabrics. I enjoy depicting materials and textures, details.

Where do you get your inspiration from? Various forms of visual arts and music. Books also. How would you describe your style? I’d call it surrealistic conceptual illustration. I try to create a flickering and mesmerizing atmosphere in my pencil works. As if it is another world, unreal, finding a way through the other side of reality. How would you describe your creative process? I take the creative process as a deep dive into another world, the world of non-material things, ideas and extra-senses. From this position, an artist for me is a person who has extra-viewing skills. And that skill lets him/her see the other side of reality, another world and lets him/her to travel there.

Recently I realized that I want to share this feeling of “diving” to another reality with the audience. And I try to find my way and visual methods of how to express that impression. Is there something you wish to communicate with your work? My works are about ideas always. And I try to put a viewer to the other world as I’ve said before. It is a kind of invitation to a journey through a mesmerizing surreal world. What motivates you? Actually, I have no answer. There are some things that you just do. Doesn’t matter what, or when, or why, but you just do them because it is such a natural process, like breathing. What motivates you to breathe? What fascinates you? Worlds that other people create (in films or books, by photos or by hands). Interconnectedness of things and circumstances, nothing ever goes wrong in your life.
What are your favourite themes? Surreal worlds and creatures. Other cultures and countries. What is your favourite medium to work with? Usually pencil, but I like mixed media too. Are there any other techniques or materials you would like to explore in the future? I’m attempting to master digital drawing. I have both wacom and tablet, and it is always such a trouble for me. I just don’t like what I see on the screen. And I can’t understand what exactly is wrong. So, I hope someday I will finally handle digital drawing at the same level as my hand drawn works. Do you have a one favourite illustration amongst your work? No, I like them all the same. What do you feel has been your biggest achievement so far? Recently I realized that both of my skills of drawing and
writing are important for me, and I don’t want to just focus on one of them; I want to mix them together. So, an interactive project “DNA” has become my first experiment. The project tells us about so called dna codes of various fashion brands. It has only one episode by now, about Alexander McQueen. But, I hope soon we’ll be making the second episode and some more. Do you have a favourite artist (illustrator or otherwise)? I love Finnish fashion illustrator Laura Leine. I like Tim Walker, the photographer, and Japanese artist Hikari Shimoda. What do you think sets your illustrations apart from others? I very much hope that I succeed in creating my own socalled style. And all together my graphic technique and how I draw people and other objects, make me recognizable.

What led you to start doing event-illustration? Event-illustration is in fact life drawing which, for its part, remains rather a traditional method of drawing. The thing I like about event-illustration is that it is always an unpredictable and spontaneous thing, and I never know what result I’ll have. And I like that feeling. What do you think it is about illustration that appeals to people? Illustrations are arty and strongly connected with a more personal sensation, if I may say so. And a handmade product always makes you feel closer with an object than a digital one. If you had the chance to work in any other city in the world, where would you go and why? My little dream is (very ambitious) to live for about half of a

year in every country of the world. So my answer will be EVERYWHERE, country after country. Do you have any advice for aspiring illustrators? I guess the best advice would be to listen to yourself, and I mean not your rational part but your intuitive side. Trust what you feel, because our feelings and emotions are our best navigation system. What are your goals for the next 5 years in your career? Planning is not my strength at all. None of my plans ever became real, but I always get something which I even had not thought about. The reality is usually much more unexpected and surprising with me that I can imagine. So I let myself make no plans and listen to my intuition.

aking over Monaco during the busiest weekend of the year, starting on Friday 24 May 2019 TAG Heuer kicked off Monaco Formula 1 Grand Prix weekend by unveiling the first of five new Monaco collector timepieces celebrating the 50th anniversary of the iconic watch. TAG Heuer hosted a series of events throughout the Formula 1 Grand Prix de Monaco weekend - the legendary event that gave the watch its name in 1969. Over the course of the exclusive three-day event, guests were granted access to some of the most prestigious and exciting events in Monaco. The TAG Heuer Monaco 1969 - 1979 Limited Edition timepiece was unveiled at the beautiful Key Largo Villa, in the

presence of Stéphane Bianchi, CEO of the LVMH Watchmaking Division and CEO of TAG Heuer and Frédéric Arnault, Chief Strategy and Digital Officer. They were joined by the rising star of the Aston Martin Red Bull Racing Team, Max Verstappen who delivered the timepiece by helicopter, as well as Patrick Dempsey, Bella Hadid, Winnie Harlow, Kai Lenny and selected guests from all over the world. Guests enjoyed an immersive exhibition exploring the history of the Monaco followed by a glamorous, 1970’s themed cocktail party and evening dinner. Since its debut, the Monaco watch and the Monaco Formula 1 Grand Prix, for which TAG Heuer has been the Official Watch since 2011, have had a strong connection. No other

ctor Brad Pitt appeared on the red carpet at the 2019 Cannes Film Festival with his costars in Once Upon A Time In Hollywood. The film, set in Hollywood in 1969, was directed by five-time Oscar winner Quentin Tarantino. Pitt, also an Academy Award winner, is a member of the Breitling Cinema Squad and was sporting a Premier B01 Chronograph 42 on his wrist. Sentebale ISPS Handa Polo Cup Rome 2019

is Royal Highness, The Duke of Sussex, played in the 2019 Sentebale ISPS Handa Polo Cup at Roma Polo Club, Rome, Italy on 24th May.
Sentebale’s flagship event, travelled to Italy for the first time to raise funds and awareness for the charity’s work supporting the mental health and wellbeing of young people whose lives have been affected by HIV in southern Africa.
Richard Miller, Chief Executive of Sentebale stated, “We are delighted to have hosted this year’s Sentebale ISPS Handa Polo Cup at Roma Polo Club in Italy, and all of us at Sentebale are enormously grateful for the continued support of our loyal and trusted sponsors in this year’s event. Partnerships like these are invaluable to us being able to deliver quality programmes of education, care and psychosocial support to many young people whose lives have been affected by the HIV epidemic in southern Africa.”
Joining The Duke on the field were Sentebale Ambassador and Argentine polo player, Nacho Figueras, who captained the Sentebale St. Regis Team, against the U.S. Polo Assn Team that was captained by Royal Salute World Polo Ambassador, Malcolm Borwick.
Despite great progress made worldwide in combatting the AIDS epidemic, HIV remains one of the leading causes of death for adolescents in sub-Saharan Africa; three out of four new HIV infections among 15–19-year-olds are among young women, and stigma is a major factor preventing youth

knowing their HIV status and accessing lifesaving treatment and care. Over the last decade, Sentebale has significantly scaled up its work in Lesotho and expanded into Botswana, addressing the mental health and wellbeing of 10 to 19-year-olds who are struggling to come to terms with living with HIV. In the last year, 1,700 adolescents have attended residential weeklong camps where together with their peers, they have a safe space to address their challenges, and today over 4,600 young people living with HIV attend the monthly Saturday clubs. Funds raised from this year’s polo cup will enable Sentebale to continue helping many more young people in southern Africa giving them hope and opportunity for the future.
ISPS Handa (The International Sports Promotion Society), which was founded by Dr Haruhisa Handa in 2006 to further the transformative power of sport across the globe, was proud to assume the position of title sponsor for the Polo Cup this year. ISPS Handa believes in the power of sport to inspire and to change society for the better. Dr Handa, Chairman, ISPS Handa says, “ISPS has supported Sentebale since 2014. Over this time, we have witnessed this highly effective charity change the outlook of young lives in Lesotho, Botswana and now Malawi. The polo cup is a stalwart fixture in the global polo calendar and we are honoured to work alongside Sentebale, who are harnessing the power of sport at this event to impact real change for those living with HIV/AIDS.”
The teams line up ahead of the Sentebale ISPS Handa Polo Cup between Team U.S Polo Assn and Team Sentebale St Regis The Sentebale ISPS Handa Polo Cup took place at Roma Polo Club, by invitation only. Along with event title sponsor ISPS Handa, other generous sponsors included: St. Regis Hotels & Resorts, U.S. Polo Assn., Royal Salute, and MoĂŤt & Chandon. New this year, Sentebale and U.S. Polo Assn. have designed an apparel capsule collection, exclusively sold on-site, and 100% of the proceeds from the apparel sales will be donated to the Sentebale foundation. Sentebale is a charity cofounded by The Duke of Sussex and Prince Seeiso in 2006. Sentebale began working in Lesotho, southern Africa, to rewrite the future for children and young people affected by HIV and extreme poverty, by providing vital access to care, education and, critically, psychosocial support.
