One Community Services Together we make a difference

O

ne Community is an independent charity, established in 1978, to support the voluntary and community sector. We also provide a range of services that help people to live independently. Our aim in all we do is to improve the quality of life of those we serve. We are the proud recipients of the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service. We are not “the council”, though we do receive funding for some of our services through contracts and service level agreements with local authorities. Fundraising is vital to the continuation of our services, so donations and legacies are warmly welcomed to help us to meet the needs of local people. This document provides a directory of our services. Please see our contact details on page 3.

One Community Support, Care & Information Services Options Home & Community Support Options is a centralised hub providing information, support and services to carers, older people, disabled, isolated or vulnerable adults, and families within the borough of Eastleigh. The Options team will look at the needs of you and/or your family and make a personalised plan, accessing services in-house and from the local community. Personal assistant service – our carefully trained and friendly staff provide the care and support for clients to live independently in their homes, either through reducing barriers or providing appropriate assistance. This service is led by the client, so the support we offer is very varied, but could include short break respite, medical prompts, support with managing the home, personal care, meal preparation, routine implementation, support with communications or admin, or support to access the community, for example going shopping, to the library, to access a club or carry on with a hobby. Lifeline & Wristband service – to give users the freedom to live independently in their own home, safe in the knowledge that if they should have an accident, a fall or feel unwell they can get help quickly. Lifeline is a telephone linked support service designed to help clients to maintain an

independent lifestyle safely. In an emergency the client presses the panic button, worn on the person, which alerts by telephone a 24-hour careline centre where assistance can be immediately arranged. The Wristband offers peace of mind when the wearer is out in the community. It has a unique ID code which correlates to the client’s details. So anyone can ring the number on the wristband, give the ID code and the care centre can alert the appropriate person. We can also provide Keysafes – for keyholders and the emergency services to gain access to the property without forcing entry. The day activities service – offers a range of activities, entertainment and care for frail older people. We cater for people who have dementia or a physical disability. The aim is to provide enjoyable, stimulating and therapeutic activities, a good lunch and refreshments during the day. Door to door transport can be arranged. The day activity services also provide peace of mind for carers. The visiting scheme – provides a visitor for people who are isolated at home, perhaps due to ill health, a period in hospital, bereavement or another change of circumstances. Volunteers will visit for up to 12 sessions, providing companionship and, where possible, signposting

to other activities and services.

We undertake research projects on our own initiative, producing reports on Social Isolation, Nutrition, and how members of the LGBT+ community experience health services. This research informs our work and the work of our partner organisations.
