Local Slimming Success Story For years I’d always been the chunky one, I felt very self conscious and had very low self esteem. I found that I ate food for and then consequently felt unhappy with myself for eating so much which lead me to eat even more. A very sad but common never ending vicious circle! Whenever I went out socialising I would be the one sat on the side watching, wishing I had the confidence to get up and join in. On the beach during our family holidays I would just sit and watch my daughter playing in the sand and in the sea, I felt so angry with myself for not getting up and joining in, but I just felt so embarrassed about my body. I yo-yo dieted for many years but never really stuck to anything, losing the odd pound here and then just end up giving up and bouncing back to old habits. A couple of my friends joined Slimming World and were losing weight quite easily and they suggested that I give it a try. I wasn’t sure at first because I thought it would just be another diet plan that I would end up not sticking too, but, in October 2009 I took the plunge and decided to join up. I followed the Extra Easy plan and really enjoyed it, losing 1 and 1/2 stone. After a few months I
thought I could do it myself and didn’t need to go to meetings anymore so I stopped going. Unfortunately, I still hadn’t got the self motivation to keep focused so the weight went back on. Several months later I decided to have another go so I re-joined, but I still wasn’t in the right frame of mind and just played about at it, so again, I gave up! A year later, after another family holiday sat on the beach hiding I decided enough was enough!! I decided to take control of myself, found my motivation and vowed to myself that I would never give up again! So on my return from the holiday I re-joined Slimming World. I have now been a member since August 2011, losing an amazing 5 stone 8lbs and have been at target since June of this year. I follow the Extra Easy plan as it allows you to eat such a wide variety of foods, one of my favourite meals is chicken tikka masala and rice. I attend Mandy Tyson’s Thursday 5.30pm
group, at The Village Hall, Hillstown. I always make sure I stay for the Image Therapy sessions, it helps to keep me motivated by listening to other members journeys. You find inspiration and a huge amount of encouragement. We are all very supportive of each other - one big happy family! Before I joined Slimming World and losing my weight, I found I didn’t have much energy, just walking up a slight incline left me breathless and walking just 10 minutes was more than enough. Now I can walk for miles and take on any hill or even mountain! Making the decision to walk back through Slimming Worlds doors has been the best thing I have ever done for myself, as they say 3rd time lucky! Don’t give up and why not give Slimming World a go!!

New Year, New Start?
Or perhaps a new business? Resolutions to diet, get fit or drink less are regular favourites at this time of year. For some, though, the plans may be a bit more ambitious – perhaps it’s time to start a new business. People often dream about working for themselves and, whether they are in a job, not working at present, or just ambitious to achieve more, at some point they may decide “Now is the time to go for it!”. Questions and concerns can hold people back. Questions like “What do I need to do, legally, to start a business?”, “Is my idea good enough to make money?”, “How do I keep accounts and handle tax?” and “What are the risks?” need considering. Some people are put off by worries about tax, bookkeeping, laws and regulations. In reality, though, for most types of business, these matters are straight forward and easily handled. The real challenge for any new business is in looking at customers, sales, costs and profit. A discussion with a business coach can help to focus on the key issues. One of the first things I do with anyone who comes for advice on a new business idea is to sketch out a rough plan of how much money the business could make. To do that we need to know what products or services the business is
going to sell, and how much would be charged for each. We then need to take a view on how many sales they would expect to make each day, week or month. That can be quite hard to do and sometimes it helps to look at different scenarios: what we reasonably think would be achievable, versus what we think the absolute worst case might be. Then we need to look at the costs of running the business, how much would be spent on buying in supplies, on paying for overheads, on marketing the business – and how much that leaves at the end for the business owner to live off. Some types of business are cheaper to set up and run than others. If you need premises from which to run the business, if you need to employ staff, or if you have to spend a lot on stock, you will have to generate a lot more income to break even than someone without those costs. A domestic cleaner, or a gardener for example will have lower running costs and most of what they earn as income will stick with them as profit. For every new business, though, the key is in understanding the potential market. Who might my customers be, how will I make them aware of what I have to offer, and how will I persuade them to buy from me? New businesses do not
need to be complex or innovative to succeed, but they do need to be carefully planned and well executed. If you have an idea that you want to talk through, give me a call.
