Mobile Foot Health Practitioner service, as well as making new friends. I treat most common foot related problems such as corns, callus, ingrown toenails, as well as simple nail trimming. I can also provide foot care for those with Diabetes. Unfortunately, Diabetes is on the increase and foot care for Diabetes is extremely important because of how the disease affects the extremities, in particular feet. It gives the diabetic patient comfort My name is Louise Sutton and I am a mobile foot health practitioner. I moved to Bolsover with my husband and two children from Worcestershire in July 2007. We have settled in very well, and have found everyone to be friendly and welcoming. Having established my business in Bolsover, and visiting people in their own homes to treat them, has meant that I really feel part of the community now, and it gives me great satisfaction knowing that I am providing a valuable

knowing that a chiropodist or foot health practitioner is checking their feet regularly to make sure that all is well. I have patients throughout Bolsover and the surrounding areas, and the feedback I have received has all been positive. The NHS cannot always provide a simple nail trimming service for those unable to do it for themselves. I am able to provide that service by visiting people in their own homes. You can be assured that I am friendly, honest and I can put people at their ease. It’s always nice to be welcomed into someone’s home to treat a pair of feet and have a chat at the same time! Some people can be very embarrassed about their feet. Believe me - I have seen it all and nothing shocks me! So, if you do have any foot problems, please do give me a call on 07504 230036.

PETS CORNER…
Choosing food for your dog There is a bewildering array of dog food available on the shelves of pet stores and supermarkets so what should be consider in selecting the right one for our beloved fur baby? Tinned wet food vs Dry Kibble This doesn’t have to be an either or selection we can always add some meat to kibble in order to make it more interesting. However, in general dry kibble has a higher protein content so is easier to get the calories and nutrients your dog needs into his body. In summer dry dog food also tends to be more hygienic not attracting flies etc. Raw Dog Food There has also been much written recently about feeding raw dog food and this can be a selection fraught by a whole other discussion of options I will write about another time. For today I will focus on the common options of non-prescription dry kibble vs tinned food diets.
So what to look for in dog food: Protein content – The first thing on an ingredients list should be a protein. This protein should be named ie. Chicken. If the first thing on the list is a grain or says “animal derivatives” this could be absolutely anything from ground up bones to beaks and other unsavoury sources of meat. Also in general the higher the protein content the higher the energy levels and nutrition a dog will be getting. Grain vs Grain free – Both dry kibble and tinned food will have a carbohydrate element to them. Some dogs like humans find wheat grains to upset their stomachs or indeed cause skin allergies and irritation. If this is the case grain free or wheat free food is a great option to consider. Specifically avoid anything with corn as a major ingredient as this is a low cost filler which has little benefit to dog. Vegetables – Great to see on dog food is the inclusion of vegetables and even fruits in the ingredients as lots of antioxidants and vitamins can be derived from these. It’s always good to try and feed these to your dogs in general and you would be surprised how many dogs do love fruit and vegetables as a treat.
Colourings – Dog food should be enticing enough to eat by its flavour and should not need colourings. In fact, colourings classed as BHA’s and BHT’s have been proven to be carcinogenic (increase the risk of cancer). So brown kibble may look dull to us but it’s great for dog’s health. Supplement additives – There are a number of great additives to dog food these days which may help certain conditions in dogs like Glucosamine and chondroitin for arthritis. This subject could cover many pages but I have one small one so if I was to summarise even some initial thoughts to look at in your pet’s food it would be these. Feed a food high in a single source named protein, preferably grain free with vegetables and no colourings. Go read your label J Until nex
