Castle Street Medical Centre Bolsover‌ The CSMC Patient Participation Group held their monthly meeting on the 19th Oct, where we were again pleased to hear that our patient numbers continue to rise. It was noted that again some patients were having problems with getting prescriptions on time. The problem could well be issues arising with the EPS (Electronic prescription service). We were told that the surgery is now a 'Registered Place of Safety'. This is part of Derbyshire County Councils SAFE PLACE SCHEME, where designated places of safety have been set up. People with learning difficulties can go to these places if they FEEL SCARED , THREATENED or are in TROUBLE while out and about. Our staff have completed SAFE PLACE training which covers

COMMUNICATION skills and how to give PRACTICLE SUPPORT to people with learning difficulties. Also all of the LIBRARIES in Derbyshire have been designated as SAFE PLACES . Patients will see the Safe Place notice displayed on our doors. All people with learning difficulties have been advised to carry a keep safe card which will have contact details on it in case they need help. It is hoped that the newly ordered Notice Board will be in place at the end of the month. This will be a 'White Board' which will make it easier for us to put 'instant items' on it as well as our normal bulletins. We are hoping that in the near future, we can set up a 'Carers Support Group'. To that end we will

hold meetings within the practice hopefully with representatives from carers associations. We welcomed the time and effort that representatives from Derbyshire Carers Association put in during the Flu Clinics and from that contact we hope to be able to set our group up, we will keep you informed of our progress. We have again raised the TVs in the WAITING ROOM matter with HCCG and have provided them with information on two companies who provide these systems. It is our belief that by having one of these systems we can keep our patients fully updated with matters that may concern them. We would welcome your comments on this issue, whether for or against the idea. Our next meeting will be on Monday the 16th November. Grant Stothard chair of CSMC PPG

Russell Grant’s Horoscopes - November enter into a business partnership. Don't challenge an expert's authority in late November, or you will make a powerful enemy. The Full Moon on the 25th brings an end to a source of income. This will prove to be a blessing in disguise. You're tired of working on behalf of an employer you do not respect. GEMINI May 22nd June 21st ARIES March 21st April 20th

The opening days of November are ideal for launching a new health regime. Give careful thought to what you eat, when you sleep and how much you exercise. Your creative ability will garner favourable publicity on the 6th. This is a great time to create a display, design an advertisement, or make some eye catching signs. The New Moon on the 11th is perfect for adopting a pet. If you've been feeling lonely, pay a visit to your local animal shelter. You'll find a faithful companion that is just perfect for your lifestyle. The second half of the month is perfect for signing contracts, negotiating deals and forming partnerships. Someone will accuse you of being selfish on the 25th, when the Full Moon prompts you to put your needs first. Although you hate turning down requests for help, it's important to be good to yourself as November turns to December.

Your pulling power is at an all time high in early November. Use it to your advantage. There's never been a better time to lure someone into your web of intrigue. Intimate relationships are looking good throughout the first half of the month. Don't hesitate to ask for the emotional, financial, or practical help you need. The New Moon on the 11th gives you an economic boost, when your partner gets a big rise. Alternatively, you could get a handsome insurance or tax refund. Channel your restless energy into a race or competition during mid-November. The Full Moon on the 25th warns against arguing with relatives and neighbours. If you're thinking about changing your appearance, the first half of November is a good time for an image overhaul. This is the best time of the entire year to update your look or add fashionable items to your wardrobe. The New Moon on the 11th attracts a fresh source of income. It appears you'll be able to make money working from home. This arrangement will make life much easier, giving you more time for the activities you love. It's important to set strict office hours, or your personal and professional lives will start to blend. The Full Moon on the 25th finds you facing off with an unpleasant authority figure. It's best to just follow their directions, rather than challenge these orders.

Spending time with the one you love will give the opening days of November a magical quality. If you're single, you could meet someone special at a museum, theatre, or concert. Crich Tramway Village Wins Excellence Award… …at the Derbyshire Heritage Awards 2015 Sir Richard Arkwright’s Cromford Mills was the venue for the Derbyshire Heritage Awards on Friday 9th October, when 90 guests attended the 9th Derbyshire Heritage Awards. The Awards are run by the Derbyshire Museums and Heritage Forum and celebrate all the wonderful work taking place in museums, historic houses and heritage sites across the county. The Forum also welcomed entries from organisations that are not forum members but that have undertaken heritage related projects including arts activities and work with natural heritage. The Awards were funded by the Derbyshire Museums and Heritage Forum and a grant from Museum Development East Midlands. The Awards were judged and presented by Joy Hales (Editor, Derbyshire Life Magazine), Franne Wills (Head of Service: Development, Communities and Wellbeing Service, Leicestershire County Council) and Sir Richard FitzHerbert (Chief Executive of Tissington Hall). Award winners received a plaque and highly commended projects were awarded a framed certificate. There were 25 entries from 14

different organisations this year, so the judges were forced to make some very difficult decisions when choosing the winners. Master of Ceremonies for the night was Andy Potter, Afternoon Show Presenter for BBC Radio Derby and he ensured that the evening ran smoothly whilst keeping the guests entertained. Crich Tramway Village won the award for Excellence and for the ‘Young Persons Development Programme’ under the category ‘Young People in Heritage’. Two of the young volunteers cited in the submission were Cameron Sharp and Sam Burton Smith. Cameron’s experiences at Crich led him to pursue a role at Rolls Royce Derby as an apprentice engineer and his role at Crich was instrumental in securing that apprenticeship. Cameron is a great role model for younger members and is now passing on skills and knowledge to them as they in turn start to volunteer at Crich. He has achieved many goals at Crich, including acquiring a Tram Guard’s licence, being a First Aider and being authorised to repair and service tram cars used by the public. His greatest achievement in the last year has been his appointment as a ‘Duty Engineer’. In this role he is a controller of safety critical

work, with the delegated responsibility of the Rolling Stock Engineer, a position of responsibility and trust of which he is rightly proud. Sam Burton Smith is one of our youngest volunteers at 16 and has helped in the Workshop, but also had an interest in working on the trams. Sam undertook conductor training on the vintage trams over a period of a year, in his spare time, working around school commitments. Sam passed his conductor training and continues to work on the trams in his spare time, providing excellent customer service and inspiration to other young people considering volunteering at the Museum. Crich Tramway Village was also Highly Commended for the ‘Best Volunteer Project’ for which the staff submitted their ‘Electric 50’ project, based on 50 years of electric trams at Crich. Dr Mike Galer, General Manager at Crich Tramway Village, said: “We are delighted to have achieved recognition through the Derbyshire Heritage Awards for Excellence, Young People in Heritage and for being Highly Commended for the Best Volunteer Project. Our submissions were the result of staff and volunteers working together successfully to provide a fantastic, customer friendly venue, which is home to the National Tramway Museum. We are very proud of all our volunteers and positively encourage and welcome young people to add to their skills, which can help prepare them for future work roles.”

PETS CORNER - Anxious Doggy?

This season there are many things that can cause additional stress for our beloved furry family members. Fireworks, visitors, parties and even additional food and smells around. What should we look for and what can we do to help them. Things to look out for in an anxious dog are pacing, repetitive behaviour, barking or howling, destructive behaviour, hiding or cowering or indeed soiling themselves and their environment. Some of the ways to help your dog could be: Phased exposure and positive reinforcement – You can help your dog by gently getting them used to the experience by phasing exposure to whatever makes them anxious and when they get through it without negative behaviour ensuring you positively reward with praise before moving on. Chesterfield Food and Drink Awards Cocina at Casa Hotel has been crowned Chesterfield’s best restaurant in the town’s prestigious Food and Drink Awards last night. Judges described Cocina’s menu as ‘imaginative’ and the quality of food as ‘excellent,’ highlighting the ‘provenance of locally-sourced food.’ They also praised the overall ‘quality dining experience.’ The prestigious Restaurant of the Year award is another to add to the trophy cabinet of Chesterfield’s four star hotel, owned by local entrepreneur Steve Perez. Earlier this year it was announced as one of the top 5 hotels in the UK in the Trip Advisor 2015 Travellers’ Choice Awards. Steve Perez said: “It’s always wonderful to receive awards, especially when you are in the company of other great shortlisted restaurants. Here at Casa we always try and put our customers first so it feels extra special when they make their voices heard in such a brilliant way. Cocina focuses on both the food product and the customer – using the best quality locally sourced ingredients in the kitchen, and friendly, professional service in the dining room.” As well as Cocina, 11 other food and drink establishments, producers and individuals were also named as Chesterfield’s finest at the sell-out awards ceremony hosted by celebrity chef Theo Randall. Theo Randall said: ““Chesterfield’s food and drink scene is thriving; the strong field in the Best Newcomer category is testament to that. I commend all the finalists in this category knowing only too well myself, when I opened my first restaurant, Theo Randall at the InterContinental in 2006, the courage, commitment and belief in yourself it takes to set out and do it on your own. “Good food is one of life’s simple pleasures. The support shown for the awards in both the nomination phase and the awards shows that good food is a passion of many people in Chesterfield. “The awards are a great demonstration of how the food and drink scene in Chesterfield has evolved in recent years. It is now catering for many tastes, from authentic Japanese and Jamaican to Italian and Great British. The town has everything and is continuing to develop its thriving and increasingly successful hospitality scene.” Organised by Destination Chesterfield, in association with Chesterfield College, the 2015

awards were the biggest yet and tickets sold out weeks in advance. More nominations than ever were received from the public resulting in 10 businesses being first time finalists in the awards. As well as sponsoring the awards Chesterfield College also hosted them with 50 students, studying NVQ and BTECs in catering and hospitality, catering and silver serving a two course meal to more than 250 people attending the event. The college also trained the winner of the Young Chef of the Year James Greatorex. Stuart Cutforth, Principal of Chesterfield College added: “The Food and Drink Awards are the go to event in Chesterfield. There is a wealth of outstanding food and drink establishments in the town and Chesterfield College is delighted to be training the future stars of the industry. Our mission statement is ‘inspiring futures, changing lives’ and the Food and Drink Awards enable us to do just that, giving the many apprentices we train real hands-on experiences at the ceremony each year.” Destination Chesterfield Manager Dominic Stevens said: “Each year we have seen an increase in the number of people nominating businesses for the awards and this year was no exception. The support across Chesterfield has been phenomenal, with people keen to see the town, and the businesses and people working within its hospitality sector succeed and grow.”
