Bolsover School IT…

IT lessons goes galactic for students from The Bolsover School School IT lessons were brought to life by the world’s leading independent end-to-end IT services company for a group of students from The Bolsover School recently. Eight Year 9 students from the school visited DXC Technology as part of the Made in Chesterfield campaign. The visit to the Chesterfield based company was designed to show the students how they could apply their IT skills to real-life work. As part of the visit, students learned about IT security, teamwork and coding in a real-life working environment. They even got to send a message to the International Space Station (ISS) through Mission Zero. With the support of DXC Technology, the students wrote a simple programme to display a message to the astronauts onboard, proving a big hit with the students. Debbie Crossley, Career Information, Advice and Guidance Officer at The Bolsover School commented on the visit: “We were very fortunate in being able to take several of our Year 9 students to visit DXC Technology as part of the Made in

Chesterfield campaign. The students were amazed by the type of work carried out by DXC and were fascinated by what they learnt. “The visit offered so many learning outcomes for us around careers, apprenticeships, technology and much more. DXC Technology made us feel very welcome and the students were so pleased they went on the trip – we’ll definitely be planning another visit to this employer.” Made in Chesterfield is aligned with the National Curriculum in order to help students and teachers access the unique leaning experiences that Made in Chesterfield will deliver throughout the year. The campaign, which is coordinated by Destination Chesterfield and Derbyshire Education Business Partnership and sponsored by University of Derby, is designed to bring together businesses, schools and training providers to showcase the sector to future school leavers. Since Made in Chesterfield was established, more than 2,500 young people from schools have spent time in the area’s manufacturing and engineering businesses. The visits to businesses operating within the STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) sector are being organised by Derbyshire Education Business Partnership. DXC Technology is one of a number of companies from Chesterfield’s STEM sector which are opening their doors to students from across the borough in an effort to raise awareness of job opportunities.

Nicola Mills, Global Account Delivery Executive at DXC Technology explained why she thought the visits are so important: “Being a STEM Ambassador is a truly rewarding role; it creates the opportunity to work with young people like the ones from The Bolsover School at our recent Made in Chesterfield event. Events like this enable them to explore the wider world of technology that is outside of their normal day to day reach and hopefully inspires them to consider careers that they hadn’t previously.” “As a technology company, it is vital for us to support the development of talent, the world is evolving and we are moving to a truly digital age. We can’t meet these demands without the foundations of a digital workforce; our graduate and apprentice programmes help make that achievable. We are all looking forward to a follow-up with The Bolsover School and to see the results of their Hour of Code being played on the International Space Station in May.” Alongside the educational activity, there is also a programme of business events including a manufacturing conference, manufacturing and engineering forum, business masterclasses and networking events taking place throughout the year as part of Made in Chesterfield.

Becky’s Movie Previews April is looking like an exciting month at the cinema with a nice mix of releases. So some releases to enjoy this month…

Coming Soon…

Avengers End Game With Infinity War closing on a gut-wrenching cliff-hanger, it's anyone's guess what to expect from the as-yet-untitled follow-up. So, what do we know? Erm, not much is the simple answer. This one's going to be a tough one to market for Marvel, given all the superheroes that – INFINITY WAR SPOILER ALERT CLAXON! – died (apparently) at the end of the last film.

We're presuming that some of them will find their way back, but Marvel won't want us to know who gets a reprieve ahead of the film itself, so the trailers will have to be VERY selective with their footage. One thing's for sure, though, Avengers: Endgame will be the closing of this particular chapter of the MCU story, and it's likely that, for all the tears spilled in the final moments of the last film, it will be like nothing compared to the end of the next movie. Colour us excited. Release Date: 26th April

Shazam We all have a superhero inside us, it just takes a bit of magic to bring it out. In Billy Batson's (Asher Angel) case, by shouting out one word — SHAZAM! This streetwise 14-year-old foster kid can turn into the adult Super Hero Shazam (Zachary Levi), courtesy of an ancient wizard. Still a kid at heart inside a ripped, godlike body, Shazam revels in this adult version of himself by doing what any teen would do with superpowers: have fun with them! Can he fly? Does he have X-ray vision? Can he

12

shoot lightning out of his hands? Can he skip his social studies test? Shazam sets out to test the limits of his abilities with the joyful recklessness of a child. But he'll need to master these powers quickly in order to fight the deadly forces of evil controlled by Dr. Thaddeus Sivana (Mark Strong) Release Date: 5th April 2019

Missing Link Hugh Jackman is Sir Lionel frost: a brave and dashing adventurer who considers himself to be the world's foremost investigator of myths and monsters. The trouble is, no one else seems to agree. He sees a chance to prove himself by traveling to America's Pacific Northwest to discover the world's most legendary creature. A living remnant of Man's primitive ancestry. The Missing Link. Zach Galifianakis is Mr. Link: the slightly silly, surprisingly smart and soulful beast who Sir Lionel discovers. As species go, he's as endangered as they get; he's possibly the last of his kind, he's lonely, and he believes that Sir Lionel is the one man alive who can help him. Together they set out on a

daring quest around the world to seek out Link's distant relatives in the fabled valley of Shangri-La. Along with the independent and resourceful Adelina Fortnight (Zoe Saldana), who possesses the only known map to the group's secret destination, the unlikely trio embarks on a riotous rollercoaster ride of a journey. Along the way, our fearless explorers encounter more than their fair share of peril, stalked at every turn by dastardly villains seeking to thwart their mission. Through it all, Mr. Link's disarming charm and good-humoured conviction provide the emotional and comedic foundation of this fun-filled family movie. Release date: 5th April 2019

Hellboy Hellboy is back, and he's on without triggering the end of the fire. From the pages of Mike world. Mignola's seminal work, this Release date: 11th April 2019 action-packed story sees the legendary half-demon superhero (David Harbour, 'Stranger Things') called to the English countryside to battle a trio of rampaging giants. There he discovers The Blood Queen, Nimue (Milla Jovovich, Resident Evil series), a resurrected ancient sorceress thirsting to avenge a past betrayal. Suddenly caught in a clash between the supernatural and the human, Hellboy is now hell-bent on stopping Nimue Chesterfield 1st

Peak Voices…

Newly formed singing group, Peak Voices, launched their first local tour in January. They performed to a packed Great Longstone Village Hall at their sell out show on Saturday 26th. The audience were treated to an evening of songs from the popular West End shows Blood Brothers, Chicago, West Side Story and Les Misérables. The group, made up of Chris Blackshaw, Andrew Edwards, Gemma Flitter, Liz McKenzie and their accompanist Wendy Byrne, recently got together to share their love of singing with a wider audience in small villages. Chris said “We are aware that villagers often have to travel to larger towns if they want to enjoy an evening of live music so we hit on the idea of doing something we love and at the same time giving some pleasure to

people who perhaps otherwise would not have an opportunity to see live music. We try to keep the ticket prices for our shows reasonable whilst still producing performances that are the same calibre to those you would see at the theatre.” Peak Voices were invited to perform at the Northern Armed Services Remembrance Evening at Preston’s Guild Hall in November last year, where they sang a selection of their songs. Andrew, who has appeared in West End productions, UK and European tours, and has performed on the Royal Variety Show three times, brings experience to the group that will help them grow in both singing and performance. They opened the evening with a spectacular medley from West Side Story before going on to sing favourites such as Don’t Cry For Me Argentina, I Know Him So Well, Never Enough and Bring Him Home. Ken Watson of Great Longstone commented “My wife, and me myself, thoroughly enjoyed the Peak Voices concert. There were moving songs, stirring songs and Fagin (Reviewing the Situation from the musical Oliver!) was an absolute delight! Well done to the whole ensemble.”

Julie Drury of Spire Radio b also said “The harmonies and synchronisation were incredible. Their singing touched my heart. For anyone that loves musical theatre they must see Peak Voices in concert.” Peak Voices followed up their performance at Great Longstone by performing to another packed audience at Taddington’s Bramwell Memorial Institute at the start of March. They have brought their tour to Chesterfield and performed at Holymoorside Village Hall on March 30th. For your diary, you can also see Peak Voices at Youlgrave Village Hall-13/04/2019 and Hathersage Memorial Hall-20/04/2019. Tickets can be obtained by contacting the Peak Voices booking lines on 07539 560102 or 07575 900098. You can also book tickets by emailing Peak Voices at peakvoices@gmail.com. To find out more information about Peak Voices, you can find them on Facebook at Peak Voices or on Twitter @peakvoices.

Russell Grant’s Horoscopes - April performance. Don't be afraid of meeting April's challenges. They have been sent to move you into a better position. GEMINI May 22nd June 21st

ARIES March 21st April 20th You want to take on a different role at the beginning of April, but there are people around you hoping to block your path. The New Moon on the 5th makes you fully aware of the conservative attitudes and stuffy restraints that are holding you captive. If you are going to strike in another direction, there will be consequences. You may be at the point that you do not care. If that's the case, get ready for some fireworks. There are people around you who will try making life very difficult for you. You have friends in high places. On the 19th, someone close to you and trusted will come to your rescue. Accept their offer to expand your horizons. Let your friend set you up in a training course. Getting a license or certificate in a growing field will allow you to live anywhere in the world. This is exactly the kind of change you want. TAURUS April 21st May 21st Working behind the scenes will be stressful at the beginning of April. The New Moon on the 5th finds you butting heads with an expert who wants to take all the credit for your hard work. Staying in this situation will make it impossible to advance. It's time to start looking for a better situation. Stop telling yourself this is your only option. It may be necessary to upgrade your skills or transition into a different industry, but this will be much better than staying in a toxic environment. On the 19th, the Full Moon will help you wrap up a work project that attracts lots of favourable publicity. Use this achievement to move into a better job. Working for a commission will be better than taking a flat salary. It's time you were paid for your superior

20

Cracks are beginning to appear in your social circle. A stressful New Moon on the 5th warns against lending or borrowing money. Coming to a troubled person's rescue won't resolve their problems. This troubled person has to answer for their behaviour. Don't feel pressured to pay a fine or cover a bill. You have better things to do with your hard earned money. If you're drowning in debt, talk to a debt management agency. There are many groups and organisations dedicated to helping people in your situation. If you play your cards right, you can consolidate your bills into one monthly payment and possibly eliminate the interest rate. On the 19th, the Full Moon will showcase your creative talent. You'll have a chance to sell your handiwork for a handsome profit. While this may not be a stable source of income, it will bring in some much-needed extra cash at the end of April. CANCER June 22nd July 23rd On the 5th, the New Moon will attract a problematic career opportunity. Although you're eager to advance, you don't want to work with a famously toxic executive. Instead of subjecting yourself to their abuse, hold out for a better offer. You have tremendous leadership ability. It may be better to open your own business than work for someone else. Your path will become clearer after the 19th, when the Full Moon will help you sew up a real estate matter. Buying or selling a piece of property will cultivate stability. You may decide to launch a business from your home. Working for yourself will solve so many problems. You'll be able to choose your work associates. It will be possible to spend more quality time with your family. There's the added bonus of creating an office environment that lifts your spirits and lets your creative juices flow freely. April is your chance to strike out on your own.

LEO July 24th August 23rd Legal problems could block your path at the beginning of the month. The New Moon on the 5th warns against breaking the rules. You'll fare much better colouring inside the lines than defying authority. The last thing you want is to lose your job because you didn't want to follow procedure. If you are hit with a lawsuit, think about settling out of court. This will be far preferable than going through the time, frustration and expense of a trial. On the 19th, the Full Moon will prompt you to put some newly acquired skills to use. Your knowledge will attract a creative opportunity. If you're offered a teaching job, take it. You'll enjoy working with students who are eager to learn from you. Don't worry if you have to take a pay cut. Your earnings will improve as you gain more and more teaching experience. Having a job you enjoy is more precious than gold. VIRGO August 24th September 23rd It will be difficult to get your fair share from a joint financial account. On the 5th, the New Moon will put strain on relationships bound by money. If you're embroiled in a custody battle, you'll have to fight to get funds for a child's wellbeing. To protect your interests, it may be best to get a job that can sustain you through this difficult period. Getting training in a cutting-edge field will help you find a lucrative position that allows you to work independently. It will also help you hold out for resources that are rightfully yours. It's easy to bargain when you're not backed into a corner. The Full Moon on the 19th will improve your economic situation. Buying or selling a piece of property will put you in a much stronger position. If you don't have money for a down payment, a generous relative will come to your rescue. LIBRA September 24th October 23rd The New Moon on the 5th creates tension in your personal life. If you're in a relationship, your other half will embarrass you with their wild and rebellious ways. You resent having to apologise for

their boorish behaviour. Ultimately, you have very different needs. Unless you can find a way to live together in harmony, it may be better to part ways. Are you single? Instead of looking for a partner who will impress your family, seek someone who will make you happy. Trying to satisfy other people's expectations will only lead to unhappiness. The Full Moon on the 19th further emphasises the importance of satisfying your own needs. Use this opportunity to take a college course for pleasure, go on a short trip or finish an important project. Satisfying your intellectual curiosity will strengthen your self-esteem. The second half of April invites you to stop expecting others to satisfy your needs. Seek to please yourself instead. SCORPIO October 24th November 22nd A work assignment you receive in early April will be difficult to complete. That's because you'll be getting conflicting signals from your colleagues. Things will be especially tense near the 5th, when a stressful New Moon causes a clash of egos. Some people will ask you to do perform tasks a certain way and others will denigrate your methods. You have no intention of getting drawn into a power struggle. To gain some clarity, talk to your employer. Don't do any work until you receive a clear set of instructions. Are you in charge? It's time to put an end to all the in-fighting and back stabbing. On the 19th, the Full Moon urges you to take a break. Sneaking off to a private hideaway will allow you to reflect on where your direction. Finding a more rewarding line of work will relieve stress. Opportunities involving education, travel and publishing are especially worthwhile. SAGITTARIUS November 23rd - December 21st On the 5th, the New Moon creates drama in your love life. Financial difficulties could be taking a toll on your union. Instead of sniping at each other about money matters, go to a counsellor. It will be easier to work out these problems with an objective third party. If you're single, it may be because you worry that a relationship will cramp your style. You'd rather live a ragtag

2019 existence than feel responsible for a romantic partner. Think carefully how this attitude is undermining your happiness. The Full Moon on the 19th is ideal for attending a festive occasion. There's a good chance you'll meet someone who finds you utterly charming. By joining forces, you could start a business, showcase your creative work or assume an exciting new role. Instead of resigning yourself to being a loner at the end of the month, reach out to those who can help realise your dreams. CAPRICORN December 22nd - January 20th The New Moon on the 5th creates tension on the home front. Everyone is resisting your authority. You won't be able to rein in someone who is intent on going their own way. Instead of trying to shield this relative from trouble, let them go. Resist the temptation to come to their rescue. The only way your loved one will reform is if they are forced to accept the consequences of their actions. Are you dealing with someone who has a substance abuse problem? It's time to issue an ultimatum. You can no longer maintain this relationship if they're going to keep using. On the 19th, the Full Moon marks an important career milestone. You could be given a rise, promotion or both. Have you been unemployed? You might be offered a new role that offers a greater measure of independence. You'll enjoy calling the shots for a change.

Call us on 01246 828378 letting negative people drag you down. Shake off the setbacks, set a lofty goal and do everything in your power to reach it. The final days of April will help you conquer some stubborn demons. PISCES February 20th March 20th A moneymaking opportunity on the 5th has strings attached, due to the challenged New Moon. You might have to prove yourself to an unfriendly group that doesn't want you to succeed. Instead of trying to live up to their expectations, it may be better to look for another job. You're a highly creative person who can't thrive in a forbidding atmosphere. Money from an investment, insurance refund or legal settlement will arrive on or around the 19th. That's when the Full Moon strengthens your financial situation. Use this windfall to advance your career. Starting your own business is a distinct possibility. Alternatively, you may decide to work as a free agent. Being able to pick and choose your clients will be a much better arrangement than remaining tied to a single employer. The second half of April could bring the professional freedom you crave. Conventional arrangements don't work for you; venture off the beaten path.

On the 5th, the New Moon will create some tension in your personal life. Angry words will be exchanged on social media, making you defensive and angry. Someone who has been posing as your friend could be exposed as your enemy. It will be tempting to get revenge. Don't let feelings of bitterness and betrayal consume you. It's much wiser to pour your energy into people and relationships that support and sustain you. The Full Moon on the 19th might find you returning from a trip, collecting a diploma or publishing some written work. Don't be surprised when your popularity soars as a result. Clay Cross Leisure Centre…

Council agrees to investigate possible new leisure centre in Clay Cross. North East Derbyshire District Council has agreed to explore plans to build a new leisure centre in Clay Cross. The Council has approved £25,000 to undertake detailed investigations and surveys, develop a robust business case and secure investment from partners to assist in the redevelopment of Sharley Park Leisure Centre. Refurbishing the existing Sharley Park Leisure centre was dismissed due to the operational difficulties, the age of the building and the costs

associated with refurbishing the existing building. So members of the Council’s Cabinet have agreed to the investment to start investigations into a possible new build leisure facility adjacent to the existing site. A recent consultation exercise has also been carried out with stakeholders, users and members of the local community to see what they would like to see in a new leisure facility North East Derbyshire District Council Leader Councillor Graham Baxter MBE said, “We have already invested approximately £2.4million at Dronfield and Eckington leisure centres since 2011 and now we are focusing our efforts on creating a brand new leisure and health facility for people in and around Clay Cross. “We have listened to what residents have said and want and we are all on the same page -

we want a high quality 21st century community health facility and social hub for the town which promotes active lifestyles and helps bring local community services together that will complement the growth of the town in the years to come.” Proposals for the new leisure centre could include a 25m pool and an additional learner pool, gym, four badminton court sports hall, soft play, café and village changing facilities. Councillor Baxter added, “The cost of building a new leisure centre is significant, but this is something that we are committed to that’s why we need to undertake further studies and investigations to ensure the location of the site is correct and fits in with the wider plans for the town.”
