Totally Tina… Having headlined the 2015 Glastonbudget Festival in May earlier this year (the biggest tribute festival of the year), Totally TINA comes to Chesterfield – Winding Wheel on Thursday 1st October! Totally TINA is an awardwinning tribute to the Queen of Rock and Roll, Tina Turner, being given the “Official UK number one” honour by the Agents Association of Great Britain. Currently touring the UK theatres in a full production version with live band, dancers and our leading lady Justine Riddoch. Rather than being a biography, this show focuses on Tina's live concert career, replicating scenes from various tours over the last 50 years with custom twists and turns created by Justine and her cast. Justine has been singing professionally for over 22 years now and has worked extensively in theatres and on national TV, she is also a much sought after session vocalist for some of the biggest record labels in the UK. In her early career she could be seen treading the familiar cabaret scene as a dynamic vocalist and could boast knowing over 5000 songs, becoming a human juke box at venues. But it was in 2002 that her career would change direction. After winning ITV's “Stars in their Eyes” as Anastacia, her tribute show “Justine is Anastacia” was in great demand and she spent the next 6 years performing as her around the world, enlisting a live band to create more of a show feel. When Anastacia stopped releasing albums and her Chesterfield 1st

popularity waned, it was time to change direction again. Having been told on many occasions she really sounded like Tina Turner, Justine set herself the challenge to become the closest copy she could be. But this was going to take some transformation. After hours of scrutinising video footage, watching mannerisms and movements, hand making the all important wig, deciding which costumes to copy, listening to patter and hundreds of versions of the same songs from different decades, the band and Justine created Totally TINA. The boys in the band were informed that girls would have to be a big big part of this and surprisingly no one complained! A troupe of professional dancers were hand-picked, choreography based on Tina's live shows and our own unique creations were created and the whole production was rehearsed, tweaked and rehearsed again. So get ready to Shake your Tailfeathers, with the Queen of Rock and Soul, Live from Nutbush and Simply the Best!

Miss Julie

A period piece now for those of us that love a bit of costume drama. Based on a Swedish play from the late 19th century, Miss Julie is set in 1890, in Fermanagh, Northern Ireland during the course of a midsummer night. Julie (Jessica Chastain, Zero Dark Thirty), the daughter of the Count, an Anglo-Irish aristocrat, attempts to seduce her father's valet, John (Colin Farrell, In Bruges) despite the class divide and the fact that John is engaged to the cook Kathryn (Samantha Morton, Minority Report). The affair quickly goes to some dark places, with power and class playing a key role. Perhaps not the
usually sweetness and light period dramas that we’re used to but the dark nature of it is resonant of such dramatisations like Wuthering Heights. With the powerful performances from the cast, this is definitely worth a look. Release date: 4th September

Everest
The next film has already had a good build up as it tells the story of Britain’s most notorious gangsters, Ronnie and Reginald Kray, both played by Tom Hardy (Bronson, The Dark Knight Rises). The film follows the identical twin gangsters as they terrorise London during the 1950s and 1960s and the relationship that bound them together which was one of gruesome violence and crime, and one that led to their downfall and imprisonment for life in 1969. Hardy is the
It is time for a disaster movie, although this time it’s based on real events. It is based on the real events of the 1996 Mount Everest disaster. It will focus on the summit and survival attempts of two expedition groups, the one led by mountain guide Scott Fischer (Jake Gyllenhaal, The Day After Tomorrow), and the one led by New Zealand Mountaineer Rob Hall (Jason Clarke, Zero Dark Thirty). The 1996 Mount Everest disaster which the film is based on refers to the events of 10–11 May 1996, when eight people were caught in a blizzard and died on Mount Everest during summit attempts. In the entire season, 12 people died trying to reach the summit, making this the deadliest day and the deadliest year on Mount Everest

The 1996 disaster gained wide publicity and raised questions about the commercialisation of Everest. You'll have to be extremely practical regarding work at mid-month. There won't be much money in the budget for extravagant projects. You'll also have to put in longer hours at the office. Your relationship with your best friend, lover, or business partner will take on a serious tone during the second half of the month. Archaeological Dig on the Chesterfield Canal… In early August, volunteers digging out the channel to restore the Chesterfield Canal in Staveley discovered some stone remains. They asked Dr Geraint Coles, archaeologist and former Chesterfield Canal Development Manager, to come and have a look. He immediately decided that the site deserved to be properly investigated. Following an email appeal for helpers by the Chesterfield Canal Trust, the dig was arranged for 15th and 16th August. The remains were of the walls and invert (floor) of the original Eckington Road Bridge over the canal, built in about 1776. It is quite incredible that it has remained intact, because three other bridges and a railway line have all been built within a few yards in the following 240 years. Very early on the Saturday morning, Geraint Coles did an interview on Radio Sheffield. This inspired a listener to come along to Staveley to join the group. First of all the site was roughly cleared by a mini-digger, then the volunteers set to work. There was lots of heavy clay that had to be shovelled and barrowed out, however the main work was done by removing the last of the muck from the stonework using trowels and brushes. Most of the 24 volunteers who helped over the weekend spent their time on their hands and knees doing this very slow and painstaking work.
As more and more was revealed, the story of how the construction was done began to emerge. It became obvious that the bridge had been constructed first and the towpath put in afterwards. By the end, Dr Coles was able to say “Many thanks to everyone for a great weekend of digging - we now have a good sequence for the site and a much better understanding of how the bridge was built.” As was expected, there were lots of objects found in the mud, such as old bottles, miners’ lamp and candle holders, a gentleman's sword stick and a clay pipe. Of particular interest were three coins, including a George III half penny, dated 1772 or 1773. Of this, Dr Coles said “This coin is probably a forgery as the obverse and reverse are inverted. This would not be unusual as the county was flooded with forged copper coins during the 1770's. What a great find and bang on date!” There remain the tasks of accurately measuring and photographing the site and washing and cataloguing the finds. Eventually the whole site will be removed because the new, restored canal has to be lower in order to get under a nearby railway, however there is now a desire to do more such digs. A Cuckoo boat, unique to the Chesterfield Canal, is believed to be buried not far away. It is hoped that this will be next on the list.

Chesterfield Food and Drink Awards The votes for the 2015 Chesterfield Food and Drink Awards are in and have been counted. 24 eateries, pubs, bars and venues have been shortlisted across 10 categories in the popular awards which are organised by Destination Chesterfield in association with Chesterfield College, who are headline sponsor and host of the awards for the third year running. The shortlisted establishments were selected from hundreds of nominations received by the competition organisers Destination Chesterfield. This year also sees the introduction of a brand new category – Conference Venue of the Year – and also 11 new contenders for the awards, including Tickled Trout, Batemans Mill, Chesters, Little Castle, H&F Tea Rooms, Libby’s, Four One Three, Coffee St, Qoozies, Three Cottages and the Proact Stadium. A secret panel of judges is now set to visit the shortlisted establishment in order to decide the winner of each category which will be announced in October by award winning restaurateur Theo Randall, who is a familiar face on prime time TV. As well as the winners of the nine categories, Theo will be announcing the winners of three additional categories – Food Producer of the Year, Young Chef of the Year and Food Hero - at the glittering award ceremony being held on Wednesday 28 October at Chesterfield College's Heart Space Building. Vice Chair of Destination Chesterfield Cllr Amanda Serjeant said: “The success of the Food and Drink awards is all down to the general public and, once again, they haven’t let us down voting in their droves for their favourite food and drink establishments.”
“The awards are recognition of the contribution Chesterfield’s thriving hospitality industry makes to the local economy. Restaurants, cafes and bars are an important part of Chesterfield’s future leisure offering and are integral part of our recently launched Town Centre Masterplan.” The shortlisted establishments in each category are: Restaurant of the Year - sponsored by Chesterfield Borough Council Blu Bistro & Coffee House Calabria Cocina at Casa Hotel Café/Tea Room of the Year - sponsored by Kier Stephenson's Coffee Shop H & F Tea Rooms Libby's Gastro Pub of the Year - sponsored by Chesterfield College The Tickled Trout Red Lion Bar & Bistro Three Cottages Pub / Bar of the Year – Sponsored by Hooper’s Coco Bar Bistro The Manor at Brampton The Market Pub Best Newcomer - sponsored by Barber Harrison and Platt Four One Three Coffee St Qoozies Best Customer Service - sponsored by East Midlands Chamber of Commerce Blu Bistro & Coffee House Stephenson's Coffee Shop Libby's Best Out of Town The Tickled Trout Red Lion Bar & Bistro Bateman's Mill
