MORE THAN LOFT LADDERS…

Your local loft expert, Liam Hobbs Look up...and get more space at home from just £150 We'd all like more room at home, but not everyone can afford to move or extend. So what if there was a way to get extra space for just a few hundred pounds, ready to use in less than a day? In truth, that space is already there – it's just not being used to its full potential.

4

For most, the loft is a dark and dingy place visited on rare occasions; a precarious scramble across dusty beams with torch in hand, grabbing what's needed then clambering back past boxes filled with long-forgotten belongings. But that dark and dingy place is worth thousands. In fact, it takes up a third of the floorspace in an average home, so shouldn't we be making the most of it? That's where More Than Loft Ladders (MTLL) comes in. Launched six years ago, Liam and his team specialise in generating space by making our lofts easily accessible. Liam has steadily grown his business to cover the NG, DE and the S postcode areas, the company's no-frills approach to creating valuable cost effective storage space is what people are looking for. We're not selling £25,000 loft conversions,” says Liam. “This is a low-cost and simple alternative. For just £297 + VAT you can get a ladder that slides easily up and down, as

well as a proper light and some boarding to make the space safe and secure. We can also fit a draft-proof loft hatch if required, from only £70.” The price customers are quoted is the price they will pay, with no additional call out charges. Liam provides a free guarantee on all parts and labour too.

X-men: Dark Pheonix There is no such thing as too much Marvel, and nothing says it better than a twelfth instalment to the X-Men franchise. It is a direct sequel to the 2016 X-Men: Apocalypse, in which the X-Men stood as united as ever against the world-destroyer Apocalypse. This time, it is one of their own members that threatens to dismantle the gang, as Jean Grey develops superior powers and

EVENT SHOWCASES TECH HELP FOR LIVING WITH VISUAL IMPAIRMENT…

People with a visual impairment are finding new technology very helpful. Picture by © diego cervo – stock.adobe.com

Ever since a photograph showing a blind woman with a cane using a mobile phone went viral on social media earlier this year, there has been interest in how visually impaired people use technology in their day to day lives. Now an event hosted by a local sight loss charity is showcasing how current technology can make life easier for people who are blind or partially sighted.

Sensory Tech 2019, organised by Sight Support Derbyshire, is aimed at visually impaired people, their family and friends, as well as professionals working in the health, social care and education sectors. It takes place at the Post Mill Centre in South Normanton on Wednesday 12th June from 10.30am to 3pm. Peter Bowler, South Derbyshire Services Manager for Sight Support Derbyshire, said: “We have exhibitors coming from all over the country to show how technology and Artificial Intelligence is helping visually impaired people now. We’ll have wearable technology, such as glasses which use High Definition cameras, and smart bands which use sonar waves to help the user avoid obstacles when they’re out and about. “The experts will be on hand with advice on getting the best out of your smart phone, tablet or computer. Don’t forget to bring along your own smart phone or tablet to find out what it can do for you.” Other products on display include electronic magnifiers to help with

reading, talking book players, and a Braille notetaker / tablet which brings the tactile language of raised dots right up to date. Sight Support Derbyshire will also have information available about its services to help blind and partially sighted local adults and children stay independent. Peter Bowler added: “Reaction to the photograph on social media earlier in the year was initially very negative. The upside is that it has sparked more conversations about how visually impaired people use technology, so this event is ideal for anyone who is interested in finding out more about how it can help them live with their sight condition.” The event is free and visitors are welcome to drop in at any time. Russell Grant’s Horoscopes - June perpetuate their scams on other unwitting victims. Do the world a favour and expose this manipulator for who they really are. Nobody will look down on you for being fooled. GEMINI May 22nd June 21st

ARIES March 21st April 20th You'll be indecisive at the beginning of June, due to a confusing New Moon on the 3rd. This is not a good time to sign a contract, submit official papers or enter into a verbal agreement. The other party is being intentionally vague as a means to throw you off balance. Until the terms are clarified, you should withhold your permission. If that means letting an agreement fall through, so be it. You're better off going solo than entering into a deal that puts you at a distinct disadvantage. Legal problems will occur on or around the 17th, when the Full Moon forces you to make restitution to the other party. Don't let yourself be consumed by anger. The sooner you meet this obligation, the faster you can build a happier and healthier future. If an extended trip was stressful, give yourself a few days to recover before going back to business. TAURUS April 21st May 21st

Changing your image won't improve your professional prospects. Assuming a false front will put even more distance between you and the job you want. Although your path to success is much longer than those who have a more conventional appearance, it will be rewarding. The most valuable lessons involve an element of personal sacrifice. The fact you must work harder than anyone else will be empowering. Apply for an exciting job on the 3rd. It may be impossible to land the position at this time, but the New Moon will increase your chances for future success. On the 17th, the Full Moon will force you to confront problems in an intimate relationship. The career constraints of a partner are undermining your bond. Unless one or both of you is willing to change, it may be necessary to go your separate ways. Are you single? Beware of getting involved with someone who is emotionally distant. Although you'll like some of the people you work with, others will rub you the wrong way. Don't draw lines in the social sand just yet. You never know who will be in the position to help you, either personally or professionally. If someone asks you for a loan, issue a polite refusal. You can't waste your hard-earned money on an irresponsible person who will gladly milk you for every cent. With friends like that, you won't need enemies. A creative project won't turn out the way you intended on the 17th. That's because a stressful Full Moon has limited your finances. As a result, you've been forced to work with inferior materials. Don't despair. Instead of treating this work as a failure, consider it a prototype. You'll be able to make improvements as more funds become available.

The New Moon on the 3rd forces you to learn complicated concepts in a short period of time. You're fighting the clock; there is not much room for error. Studying with a quirky teacher will be daunting. You'll start questioning your intelligence when you're working with this genius. There is no time for self-doubt. Focus on acquiring as much knowledge as possible. When you encounter difficulty, ask for additional instruction. This isn't the way you enjoy working, but these are extraordinary circumstances. Adopting another way of doing things will force you grow. On the 17th, the Full Moon will bring some upsetting news about work. You might be downsized from a failing company or be turned down for a desirable job. Remember that when one door closes, a window will open. Wednesday July 10th KEVIN GRUNILL Technics FA3 Kevin is widely regarded as one of the UK’s finest keyboard exponents. He is equally at home on the modern electronic instruments as well as the more traditional pipe organ and piano. At the age of sixteen, Kevin began to take an interest in the sound of the mighty theatre organ and it was a natural musical progression that he should begin to study this type of instrument. It was not long after this that Kevin began performing concerts throughout the country, featuring both electronic and theatre organs. Wednesday August 14th ROD POOLEY Yamaha TRX Rod started playing electronic organ at the age of seven. Rod furthered his playing skills by starting piano from the age of ten. During and after leaving full time education, Rod won many major titles in the organ world. These include: at 14 years of age Young Theatre Organist of the Year, at 18 and 19 years of age National Organist of the year, 21 years of age Yamaha Electone Festival Winner. Rod's professional career was already well established by the time he left school, performing at many organ societies.

Dogs In Hot Weather…

As I write this month’s pet corner it is 24C outside and at the C Four Paws kennels we are working hard to keep everyone cool. So, my thoughts turned to perhaps dedicating this month’s pets corner to the topic with the hope that today won’t be the only day of summer we receive this year. So, what should we ensure if weather is hot: Drinking Water - Firstly, ensure your dog has constant access to cool and clean drinking water. Like humans’ dogs will pant more and lose water fast and dehydration can be fatal very quickly. This guidance includes when you go out for a walk. Take a bowl and a bottle of water with you or there are lots of integral gadgets you can take which work great. Play water - If we do have hot days making available some way for your pet to get wet physically is also a great way to help them stay cool. Kids hard plastic paddling pools double well for dogs or even

garden sprinkler systems can be great fun for your dog. Grooming - Keeping dogs coats short in hot weather can help significantly in keeping them cool. Especially very long haired coats should be being trimmed every 6-8wks maximum in the hotter months. Shade - Especially in direct sunlight dogs can overheat very quickly. Don’t shut your dog on in the garden without shade and if you take them out on a picnic or to the beer garden ensure they have somewhere to be out of the sun and to keep cool. Treats - You can give dogs some cooling treats in the summer to help too. Freeze some water with treats in it or even some weak gravy. You can even get doggy ice cream from several retailers these days. Walking - If the weather is very warm you should think about possibly changing your walking schedule to either walk early or late in the day when the temperatures are cooler. Tarmac and concrete can get very hot during the day and can even burn

dog’s paws so think before walking and if your dog suffers badly with the heat think about reducing distances of walks, location (shady areas) or even taking a few days off if things get really hot. Cooling coats and pads – There are several items you can buy to help keep dogs cool including cooling coats that hold water on your dog and cooling pads either electric or that you place in the freezer before use. Cars – I will finish on what I hope is an obvious one of leaving dogs in cars in hot weather. Cars heat up exceptionally quickly and even after ten minutes a dog can have heated up so much that it’s internal organs will have begun to quite literally cook and will be beyond the point of saving. Leaving windows open won’t help, the simple answer to this one is just don’t do it ever! Until next month…
