Brampton Brewery Opens New Pub… …in Chesterfield Brampton Brewery has opened its latest pub in Chesterfield. The Glassworks is the brewery’s third pub and is located opposite the Proact Stadium on Sheffield Road. The brewery now has 3 cask-ale pubs in Chesterfield – The Rose & Crown, The Tramway Tavern and the new Glassworks. In addition to these tied-houses Brampton Brewery serves a local free-trade area covering Sheffield to the north, through to Burton in the south. Jon Leeming, Brewery Director at Brampton Brewery said: “We have chosen to name the pub The Glassworks based on the glass industry that was located around Whittington Moor in Chesterfield” To celebrate the opening of the pub, Brampton Brewery has produced a new beer ‘The Monocled Mutineer’ which is named after Percy Toplis, who

was born on Sanforth Street, which the the pub sides onto. Toplis (aka The Monocled Mutineer) had an interesting history, which was serialised by the BBC in 1986. Brampton Brewery was resurrected in October 2007 by a small group of local enthusiasts, bringing brewing back to Brampton for the first time in 52 years. Led by Managing Director and Head Brewer Chris Radford, the brewery has gone from strength to strength, winning numerous awards for its range of meticulously brewed cask-ales. Situated on Chatsworth Road, Brampton Brewery is just a stone’s throw from the original brewery which operated successfully in the town for over 130 years.

It's possible you're dealing with someone who cannot be happy, regardless of their circumstances. Playing the role of rescuer will be a game of diminishing returns. You're better off going solo. Are you in a serious relationship? Your partner may experience a terrible blow. A creative project could be rejected or a financial loss could occur. Do your best to create the emotional stability they need. CANCER June 22nd July 23rd You'll have a chance to expand your horizons at the beginning of March. the practice and the PPG have provided a working relationship to be proud of. It took over three years for us to provide the TV in the waiting room. Our idea, was to show patients the latest information to help them enjoy life and to keep them healthy. A consequence of the TV initiative, was that EVERY PRACTICE IN DERBYSHIRE were given. There are many more items that Dr Kar and his team have achieved for their patients, but the above, are just a snapshot of his determination to give the BEST possible treatment for his patients, and to provide a comfortable and safe experience for them. We believe that Dr Kar has achieved everything that he set out to do, he can be very proud of his time with us at Castle Street.MC. At the end of his final surgery, the members of the original PPG presented him with an engraved Carriage Clock and a Sorry to See you Go card. From somewhere, a lovely sponge cake appeared, so we all had time to eat a piece of cake, and to individually thank Dr Kar for his service. Dr Kar will surely be missed, but he has ensured that in Dr Alex Carrbery, and his team, he knows that the practice has been left in safe hands. Grant Stothard, chair of the original PPG

PETS CORNER…

Choosing food for your dog There is a bewildering array of dog food available on the shelves of pet stores and supermarkets so what should be consider in selecting the right one for our beloved fur baby? Tinned wet food vs Dry Kibble This doesn’t have to be an either or selection we can always add some meat to kibble in order to make it more interesting. However, in general dry kibble has a higher protein content so is easier to get the calories and nutrients your dog needs into his body. In summer dry dog food also tends to be more hygienic not attracting flies etc. Raw Dog Food There has also been much written recently about feeding raw dog food and this can be a selection fraught by a whole other discussion of options I will write about another time. For today I will focus on the common options of non-prescription dry kibble vs tinned food diets.

So what to look for in dog food: Protein content – The first thing on an ingredients list should be a protein. This protein should be named ie. Chicken. If the first thing on the list is a grain or says “animal derivatives” this could be absolutely anything from ground up bones to beaks and other unsavoury sources of meat. Also in general the higher the protein content the higher the energy levels and nutrition a dog will be getting. Grain vs Grain free – Both dry kibble and tinned food will have a carbohydrate element to them. Some dogs like humans find wheat grains to upset their stomachs or indeed cause skin allergies and irritation. If this is the case grain free or wheat free food is a great option to consider. Specifically avoid anything with corn as a major ingredient as this is a low cost filler which has little benefit to dog. Vegetables – Great to see on dog food is the inclusion of vegetables and even fruits in the ingredients as lots of antioxidants and vitamins can be derived from these. It’s always good to try and feed these to your dogs in general and you would be surprised how many dogs do love fruit and vegetables as a treat.

Colourings – Dog food should be enticing enough to eat by its flavour and should not need colourings. In fact, colourings classed as BHA’s and BHT’s have been proven to be carcinogenic (increase the risk of cancer). So brown kibble may look dull to us but it’s great for dog’s health. Supplement additives – There are a number of great additives to dog food these days which may help certain conditions in dogs like Glucosamine and chondroitin for arthritis. This subject could cover many pages but I have one small one so if I was to summarise even some initial thoughts to look at in your pet’s food it would be these. Feed a food high in a single source named protein, preferably grain free with vegetables and no colourings. Go read your label J t month… Until nex
