Slimmer Jo Races Down The Scales was more In 2014, Jo from Bolsover, decided to set herself the challenge of running the Edinburgh half marathon, knowing that to do this, she would need to not only get fit but tackle her weight issues. So she joined Danesmoor Slimming World group and went on to lose over 3 stones in 7 months, not only completing Edinburgh (raising £551.10 for Diabetes UK) but she has gone on the run a further two half marathons since. At the time she would never have believed how much that decision was going to change her life. “Slimming world was something of a revelation for me, not only was I encouraged to decide a target for myself but I got to eat unlimited 'free' food, such as fruit, vegetables, rice, pasta and my personal favorite, potatoes! But it

than that, it was the support, encouragement, tips and ideas from other members in group that really made the difference. ” Jo loved her group support so much, that last year she decided to become a consultant. One year on and her Derby Road Slimming World group in Chesterfield has doubled in size. Running two sessions at 9am and 11am every Saturday morning, this friendly and welcoming group and has won Group of the Month twice this year. But according to Jo it’s helping her members that’s really important. “Helping my members achieve their own weight loss dreams is such an amazing feeling and there’s a real family vibe to the group. I feel so privilege to be their consultant”. In the last year, members have lost a total of 303st 9lbs, with 16

members achieving their personal target and many more getting closer to it every day. If you like to find out more, call in on a Saturday morning or contact call Jo on 07988 435571. Alternatively visit www.slimmingworld.com

HS2 Train Link For Chesterfield A ‘GAME CHANGER’… A decision to bring the HS2 rail line through Chesterfield offers a once in a generation opportunity to create jobs and economic growth. That was the message from Chesterfield Borough Council leader Councillor Tricia Gilby as she welcomed news that HS2 has decided to go ahead with plans for the main HS2 high speed rail link to follow a route through north Derbyshire and South Yorkshire that roughly follows the M1 and M18, with a spur coming off that would serve Chesterfield and Sheffield city centre. It was also confirmed that Staveley will be home to a HS2 maintenance depot, creating jobs and helping to develop the former industrial sites in the area as part of a wider regeneration plan. Councillor Tricia Gilby, leader of Chesterfield Borough Council, said:“This is a real game changer for Chesterfield because of the faster connections it will bring to London, Leeds, Manchester and other major cities and the extra capacity on those trains. “Having high speed trains will benefit not only Chesterfield’s economy but also the wider area as Chesterfield is the link in to other parts of north Derbyshire and the Peak District National Park. It makes Chesterfield a destination to arrive at and that offers the opportunity to

OFSTED REGISTERED Brimington

develop infrastructure around the station to bring wider economic benefits over time.” The council is currently working with partners across the East Midlands and Sheffield City Region to maximise the Potential opportunities to develop infrastructure that will enable the town to benefit from the rail link and to give local people the skills and training needed to get jobs created by HS2. An East Midlands HS2 Growth Strategy which sets out plans to achieve this is currently being developed and will be launched later this summer. Councillor Gilby added: “We will be telling the Government that by investing in infrastructure we can maximise the economic benefits of the HS2 link sooner, bringing more jobs to Chesterfield and the surrounding areas. “At Staveley we need to ensure that the maintenance depot plans link in with the pre-existing plans to redevelop the former industrial sites in that area. As that land has contamination on it we need to start work sooner rather than later to ensure that everything is ready to benefit from the HS2 rail link when it arrives.

“We do recognise that in addition to the positives of the HS2 link there will be disruption as well. We will be working with HS2 and the Government to ensure all possible mitigation measures are in place to minimise this as much as possible.” The HS2 announcement has also been welcomed by business Leaders. Peter Swallow, chair of Destination Chesterfield, said: “Proposals for an HS2 stop in Chesterfield and the Staveley maintenance depot have already sparked a surge of interest in the town from all types of inward investor, including commercial developers and house-builders, thus reinforcing Chesterfield’s status on the national investment map. “Chesterfield’s location and connectivity gives the town a unique appeal and this has already been recognised by many of those looking to invest. The HS2 announcements made to date have helped to raise the town’s profile even further, and promoted Chesterfield to a different league of investor. “Key developments like Peak Resort and Chesterfield Waterside are already well underway and HS2 will help make Chesterfield a destination in its own right- an HS2 stop in the town will be another massive step forward.”

Becky’s Movie Previews Summer has arrived! There have been enough consecutive warm days to count as an actual summer this year, long may it last. In case you aren’t a sun worshipper or just want a break from the heat here is what is gracing the cinema screens this month.

Coming Soon… Emoji Movie

The kids have broken up from school and to keep them entertained why not take them to see a film based on the funny little characters and pictures you text to someone. They will truly make a film out of anything these days and now we have an Emoji movie. The film takes place inside a smart phone in the bustling city of Textopolis which is home to all the emoji’s. All of the emoji’s have one facial expression, apart from Gene (T.J. Miller, Big Hero 6, Deadpool) who has a multitude of

expressions. In order to become ‘normal’ he enlists the help of his best friend Hi-5 (James Corden, Gavin and Stacey) and a notorious codebreaker called Jailbreak (Anna Faris, Mom, Scary Movie). During their ‘app-venture’ through the various apps on the phone the three emoji’s discover a great danger and the three unlikely friends must save their world before it’s deleted forever. This may seem a little out there but it’s all in good fun and should keep the kids entertained as well as the adults. There’s even a ‘cameo’ from Patrick Stewart (X-Men) as the poop emoji. You can’t get much better than that. Release date: 4th August 2017

In 1964, while on a short trip to Paris, the American writer and art-lover James Lord (Armie Hammer, The Social Network)) is asked by his friend, the world-renowned artist Alberto Giacometti (Geoffrey Rush, Pirates of the Caribbean, The King’s Speech)), to sit for a portrait. The process, Giacometti assures Lord, will take only a few days. Flattered and intrigued, Lord agrees. So begins not only the story of an offbeat friendship, but seen through the eyes of Lord, an insight into the beauty, frustration, profundity and at times downright chaos of the artistic process. Final Portrait is a portrayal of a genius, and of a friendship between two men who are utterly different, yet

increasingly bonded through a single ever-evolving act of creativity. A film that shines a light on the artistic process questioning whether the gift of a great artist is a blessing or a curse. This film is written and directed by accomplished actor Stanley Tucci (The Devil Wears Prada, The Hunger Games) and is worth the watch if you want something a little different. The Dark Tower This is a science, fantasy, western, action and horror film which is a continuation of the book series of the same name written by Steven King. The books incorporate many genres and describe a ‘gunslinger’ and his quest toward a tower, the nature of which is both physical and metaphorical. Jake Chambers is an 11-year-old adventure seeker who discovers clues about another dimension called Mid-World. Upon following the mystery, he is spirited away to the other dimension where he encounters a Gunslinger, Roland Deschain (Idris Elba; Luther), who is on a quest to reach the "Dark Tower" that resides in End-World and reach the connection point between time

and space that he hopes will save all existence from extinction by Hell. But with various monsters and a vicious sorcerer named Walter O'Dim, also known as The Man in Black (Matthew McConaughey; Magic Mike, Dallas Buyers Club)) hot on their trail, the unlikely duo find that their quest may be difficult to complete. This may not be for everyone but is worth a look if you’re a fan of the books or the fantasy genre itself. Release date: 18th August 2017

The Hitman’s Bodyguard Set to be a summer smash, The Hitman’s Bodyguard stars Hollywood’s finest Ryan Reynolds (Deadpool) and Samuel L Jackson (Pulp Fiction). The world's top protection agent (Reynolds) is called upon to guard the life of his mortal enemy, one of the world's most notorious hit men (Jackson). The relentless bodyguard and manipulative assassin have been on the opposite end of the bullet for years and are thrown together for a wildly outrageous 24 hours. During their journey from England to the International Court of Justice, they encounter high-speed car chases, outlandish boat escapades and a merciless Eastern European dictator (Gary Oldman; The Dark Knight Series) who is out for blood.

Russell Grant’s Horoscopes - August regime that will soon bring impressive results. Take this opportunity to overhaul your diet and exercise routines. Getting more time to be alone with your thoughts will also be therapeutic. GEMINI May 22nd June 21st

ARIES March 21st April 20th Beware of making too many demands on your best friend, romantic partner or a working colleague in the early days of August. You're not the only one who is busy. A Lunar Eclipse on the 7th will mark the end of a group connection, giving you more time for your personal life. You'll have to revise a work project several times at the middle of the month, so don't pour too much energy into it. On the 21st, a Solar Eclipse will inspire you to begin a creative project. Putting an inventive spin on a traditional form will open up a fresh set of options that have gone unnoticed before now. Your boss will ask you to go on an important trip during the second half of the month; you'll be able to combine business with pleasure on this journey. The closing days of the month are ideal for signing a contract. This legal agreement will pave the way for long term financial security. TAURUS April 21st May 21st You'll feel out of your depth at the beginning of August. Ask for help or apply for formal training and do the best you can until you begin to see the wood for the trees. On the 7th, a Lunar Eclipse will mark the close of an important era at work. This could mean a rise or change of job for you. Flattery will get you nowhere in the middle of the month. It's better to be honest if you don't like a project, gift or decoration. The Solar Eclipse on the 21st will prompt you to improve your living situation. Moving to a glamorous city or doing some radical home improvements are all possibilities. The more time you spend on domestic pursuits, the happier you will be during the second half of August. As September approaches, you'll launch a health

18

Overindulging in luxuries will put a serious dent in your budget at the start of the month. Practice restraint, no matter how much you'd like to go on a spending spree. A Lunar Eclipse on the 7th could bring the end of an academic program or educational process. You'll be very happy with the result so go out and celebrate. Toward the middle of the month, it may be necessary to make some home repairs. Don't let a faulty wiring system or plumbing problem spiral out of control. Good news will reach your ears on the 21st, thanks to an energising Solar Eclipse. You'll be able to move forward with a project you've been contemplating for months. During the second half of the month, you'll be working closely with a close friend, romantic partner or business associate. You'll generate the ideas while your other half implements them. Two heads are definitely better than one as August turns to September. CANCER June 22nd July 23rd You'll feel torn between family and friends at the start of the month. Be sure to attend a relative's special celebration, even if your best friend or romantic partner wants you to skip it. On the 7th, a Lunar Eclipse will bring an end to an unearned source of income, but there is no need to panic as it is more than likely that as one door shuts another will open, even if you have to wait a wee while before it does. Don't get drawn into a power struggle in the middle of the month. A loved one will subject you to a guilt trip; try not to take the bait. A moneymaking opportunity will arrive on the 21st, courtesy of an enriching Solar Eclipse. Working in a technical field should prove profitable. Flattery won't get you anywhere with an authority figure at the end of the month. If you want to earn your boss's respect, it will be through hard work, perseverance and innovation. Put your best foot forward and put your shoulder to the wheel.

LEO July 24th August 23rd An oppressive work situation will cause you to think about leaving for greener pastures at the beginning of the month. The Lunar Eclipse on the 7th marks the end of a close relationship; you'll welcome the opportunity to make a fresh start. Devote your attention to a demanding creative project at the middle of the month. This work could be the fresh start you feel you need. On the 21st, a Solar Eclipse marks a thrilling metamorphosis for you. You'll have an opportunity to step into a new role. There may be quite a bit of overseas travel involved with this situation. Getting paid to visit exotic countries on an expense account will be the answer to a prayer. The second half of the August invites you to polish your creative talent to a diamond brilliance. Working with a seasoned expert will open your eyes to fresh possibilities. Be willing to break bad habits for the sake of improving your technique and ultimately, your results. VIRGO August 24th September 23rd An expensive romance could come to an end in early August. You'll be glad to get a greater measure of control over your personal life. On the 7th, a Lunar Eclipse will bring an end to a work assignment, giving you a chance to pursue bigger and better opportunities. You may decide to return to a previous employer or line of work at the middle of the month. It will feel like you have never been away The Solar Eclipse on the 21st gives you a very welcome opportunity to spend more time on solitary pursuits. Devoting your energy to artwork, animals and nature will be rewarding. You also might get deeply involved in a charitable organisation. Use your considerable communication skills to raise money for a good cause. Serious family responsibilities will demand your attention as August turns to September. serious mistake in early August. Instead of putting your trust this family member to do anything for you from running an errand or giving you a loan, put your faith elsewhere. A Lunar Eclipse on the 7th will allow you to put the finishing touches on a creative project; you'll be very happy with the result. At the middle of the month, you'll be having so much fun at work that you may neglect your personal life. If your loved ones disapprove of your career, it may be time to form a more supportive social network. The Solar Eclipse on the 21st marks an exciting social event that will raise your profile. Wear something distinctive to this occasion; you'll attract admiring glances wherever you go. Make plans to go on a glamorous trip at the end of August; you'll find some terrific deals on plane tickets and hotel rooms. SCORPIO October 24th November 22nd In the opening days of August, you'll hear some harsh words from a jealous individual. You used to think this person was your friend, but you certainly won't after they show their true colours. On the 7th, a Lunar Eclipse will prompt you to find a better living situation. This is a good time to sell a piece of property or move to a more secluded area. You won't have much respect for a so-called expert at the middle of the month. Instead of following their lead, you should forge your own path. A Solar Eclipse on the 21st marks a thrilling career opportunity. Accept a job that will keep you on your toes. You'll welcome a chance to break out of a boring work routine. Although the salary won't be terribly impressive at first, it will increase over time. There is plenty of opportunity for growth with this company, as long as you're willing to work hard. SAGITTARIUS November 23rd - December 21st Throwing your money around will attract the wrong crowd at the start of the month. It's better to be respectful and resourceful, even if you've recently seen an increase in income. A Lunar Eclipse on the 7th brings an end to a social project or academic programme. You'll have more time for everyday pleasures and pastimes as a result. Don't lend or borrow money toward the middle of the month,

2017 or you will do serious damage to a friendship. On the 21st, a Solar Eclipse will invite you to expand your horizons. Seize this opportunity to take an overseas trip or start a writing project. You could be taking on some heavy responsibilities during the second half of the month. You'll enjoy sinking your teeth into a spiritually rewarding project. Raising funds for a good cause will raise your professional profile. It will also put you in contact with influential members of the community. These social connections will be helpful for you. CAPRICORN December 22nd - January 20th Dampening a relative's enthusiasm is a mistake in the early days of August. Instead of warning a family member not to take a risk, show that you have faith in their judgement. You will be pleasantly surprised. On the 7th, a Lunar Eclipse will bring an end to a moneymaking endeavour, giving you more time to pursue your dream career. The middle of the month will prompt you to return to a nostalgic destination you always loved as a child. Be sure to buy a special gift for your favourite person on this excursion. Pick something that reflects their taste, not yours. A Solar Eclipse on the 21st will attract a big windfall. Use the money to make extensive home repairs and renovations. If you don't own your place, this is your chance to put a down payment on a fabulous piece of property. Give thanks for your good fortune by donating some time or money to a charity.

Call us on 01246 828378 soulmate, getting engaged or exchanging marriage vows are all possibilities. Arguments with an absent minded colleague could mean you have no other option but to file an official complaint. You aren't willing to put up with their careless performance any longer. Make sure to attend a big party at the end of August; you'll make some influential friends.

PISCES February 20th March 20th Neither a lender nor a borrower be in the early days of August. You don't want to ruin a friendship because of a financial argument. On the 7th, a Lunar Eclipse will allow you to rest, relax and reflect after a busy social season. Take this opportunity to spend more private time with your loving partner. If you're single, someone from your past will try to reconnect with you toward the middle of the month bringing with them an important decision. This would be a good time to repair past mistakes. A Solar Eclipse on the 21st will attract an exciting job offer. Getting paid to exercise your imagination will make you feel much better, both physically and emotionally. Take the chance to be extra helpful to a colleague in the closing days of the month and you'll gather a great deal of valuable information, not to mention experience. Hard work will pave the way for a raise, promotion or both. Don't be afraid to assume a position with lots of responsibility.

nominations are in and the finalists in the 2017 Chesterfield Food and Drink Awards have been announced. Organised by Destination Chesterfield, and sponsored by Chesterfield College, the prestigious awards recognise the very best food, drinks, service and venues in the town’s growing hospitality sector. A total of 26 businesses have been short listed across 10 categories, with Casa Hotel, Junction Bar, Bottle & Thyme and The Lilypad Café being nominated across multiple categories. Cocina at Casa Hotel has once again been nominated for the coveted Restaurant of the Year 2017 title and hopes to retain it for a third year running. This year more nominations than ever were received from the public for the Food and Drink Awards. Dominic Stevens, Destination Chesterfield Manager said: “The awards are now in their fifth year and more popular than ever. Each year it gets more and more difficult to narrow the nominations down to just three finalists in each category. It’s great

to see so many first-time finalists, reflecting the growth and diversity of Chesterfield’s food and drink scene.” The winners will be announced a glittering awards ceremony, hosted by celebrity cake maker to the A List Mich Turner, which is being held at Chesterfield College’s Heart Space building in October later this year. The finalists in each category are: Restaurant of the Year - sponsored by Chesterfield Borough Council Blu Bistro Cocina at Casa Hotel Lombardis Café/Tea Room of the Year – sponsored by Custom Solar H&F Vintage Tea Rooms The Lilypad Café Stephenson’s Tea and Coffee House Gastro Pub of the Year – sponsored by Arvato Chandlers Bar The Market Pub The Rectory Pub / Bar of the Year – sponsored by Banner Jones Solicitors Einstein’s Junction Bar The Rose & Crown Best Newcomer - sponsored by BHP Accountants Bottle & Thyme

Safety Around Water…

As summer approaches we all spend more time around water and our dogs likewise can love a swim and a paddle. This month then I thought I would talk about some of the safety items you should be thinking about with the safety of your dog in mind. The first thing to remember if this is your dog’s first summer with you that they may not be able to swim or have a different swimming ability to your previous dog. So be careful how deep and how far the dog swims out or they could get in trouble and if you can’t get to them in time it could have tragic consequences. Also remember if your dogs are getting older it also may not be able to swim as far this summer as they did last summer and again be away of the potential for them to get into trouble if they push themselves too far. If you are around bodies of water always be aware of where your dog is especially if entry and exit to the water is difficult like canal areas. An

enthusiastic jump in while you aren’t looking, if they can’t get out, can quickly tire a dog trying and turn from a fun swim into a sad demise. If you are taking your dog out on a boat, think about asking the hire company for a dog life jacket many if they allow dogs on board will have them and it is better to be safe than sorry. Also if you are in a motor propelled boat be aware your dog may jump or fall off the back and with the propeller blades close to the surface this can be highly dangerous. The other danger around water can be disease. The two common ones being Leptospirosis and Giardia. If you have your dogs vaccinated annually they will be covered for Leptospirosis. Giardia is not normally vaccinated against but treated if acquired. Just be aware if your dog develops diarrhoea or sickness after swimming that doesn’t clear up this might be the cause and take them to the vet. Finally, there is one element of some waters especially

standing water that can be deadly to dogs which is water with Blue Green Algae. It looks like matts of green material floating on the surface of the water. It contains toxins against which there is no antidote. Don’t be fooled by the blue green name as sometime you can only see the blue tinge in certain lights. The safest approach is if you see large amounts of floating algae keep your dog out of the water as the consequences can be far too serious to take the risk. So be water aware and have fun, but stay safe and enjoy an aqua summer. Here at Calagran Four Paws Hotel we have a paddling pool set up in our play paddock for the resident staying with us or visiting dogs that hire the paddock areas for play sessions.

Your Mind Matters With Roxy… Hi readers, I’m Roxanne Rhodes and I’m a Psychotherapist, Clinical hypnotherapist and coach with a private practice in Clowne. This month I’m going to go over a subject I’ve covered a while ago and talk about hypnotherapy. This is the area of my work that fascinates most people. Hypnotherapy is, in its most basic sense, a focused state of attention, often referred to as a trance state. This is a perfectly natural state and we go in and out of trance all of the time. How many times have you driven somewhere and not really remembered the journey? Stared at the same page in a book for 10 minutes as your mind wanders? Yep, autopilot - or trance state. Children are especially good at this. I can call to my toddler Charley six times while he’s watching Postman Pat with no response. I can wave my hand in front of his face and he doesn’t even blink. But rustle a packet of Quavers and he snaps to attention! So a trance state is a very common and normal part of life. Now, you’re wondering when I’m going to make you bark like a dog, or dance the funky chicken aren’t you? Hypnotherapy is often thought to be similar to stage hypnotism. IT’S NOT!! I promise that while you’re safely relaxed in the big armchair in my office I’m not planning on making you do star jumps when a bell rings (unless you’re coming for weight loss hypnotherapy perhaps!!) Hypnotherapy is always for your own good. Therapy in general is designed to help you move forwards in life, however we have those evil mind monkeys in our brains that yell “you can’t do this”, “you’re not clever enough”, “you’ll never be confident

enough”, “your mum and grandma were both depressed so you will always be”. The beauty of hypnotherapy is that it bypasses these mind monkeys that live in the logical part of your brain. It goes in through the side door so to speak, so that we can work on the subconscious, or emotional part of your brain. By doing this we escape the resistance that’s created by all these doubting thoughts and messages that you say to yourself over and over again. Lots of people feel like they’ve been asleep during hypnotherapy. Now that’s a lovely feeling, but of course it isn’t true. Your brain is working very hard, and is in fact in the same state we go into when dreaming. I use hypnotherapy as part of a tool in general therapy as a whole. I don’t find it to be totally effective on its own and it’s rare that I’ll agree to see a client purely for a session of hypnotherapy. It usually takes place in the latter half of a session after we’ve had a discussion about how it might be effective for you. If you’d like to find about more about hypnotherapy, or therapy in general then have a look at my website or contact me using the below details. See you next month.
