And what you as a person in the public seeking service, guidance, and commitment deserve to know and get.

Working with a Realtor, ultimately, and for your best interest, will function like a monogamous relationship. So what kind of person deserves that commitment and loyalty from you? Does your Realtor pursue you? Or are you always the one to have to call? Does your Realtor actively listen to you? Anticipate your needs? Does your Realtor take time to understand who you are, explore and take interest in your lifestyle wants and needs? Does your Realtor discuss how to help you reach your goals? These are just the relational pieces of what a Realtor, who is service focused, ought to offer you. In addition, there are legal, ethical, and moral guidelines Realtors are expected to adhere to. (Look for my article on that next month). After your “meet cute”, does your Realtor seek to make sure

communications with you are effective? While you are “courting”, does your Realtor share knowledge gained from prior experiences? Does your Realtor demonstrate that your best interests are the primary concern and focus of the relationship? Or, does it feel like the relationship is more about the Realtor’s wants and needs (e.g., the “home run” of closing the deal)? Does your Realtor help you explore and understand some of the additional very

key pieces of your real estate transaction, such as financing and inspections? Does your Realtor make sure you know all your options and have talked with reputable professionals?

Some Realtors ask (or require) you to sign a Buyer’s Representation

Agreement. (If you are selling, the Listing Agreement is that contractual binding agreement). In either case, you as the consumer need to seriously consider if this Realtor deserves your commitment. Carefully read and consider what you are agreeing to. Is there a built-in “alimony clause” should you want out? If you ever feel like your Realtor has begun to take you for granted, you should be aware of your ability to break-up should you desire to go your own way, i.e., “It’s not you, it’s me.” And by me, I mean, you, the Realtor, are not giving “me”, the client, what I want, need, and deserve from a professional.

And, before you start around “the bases” with any Realtor,

confirm how much availability and accessibility you will have once you actually “do the deed”, sign the (purchase) contract, and close on a property. Will your Realtor still be there every step of the way, or will it be an assistant that sends you the “one month anniversary flowers”? Or, even worse: ‘ghost’ you?

Bottom line, being a Realtor is a service industry. And YOU as

the consumer are at liberty to make your choice as to whom to be exclusive with. So, if you are not getting the personal attention you deserve, “dump that zero and get with a hero”! However, if your Realtor is “the one”, meeting, or even better, exceeding your needs and expectations, then let that Realtor know you want to go steady! Wear their pin, class ring, letterman jacket with pride, and be sure to tell your friends and family about how happily committed you are!

There are a myriad of platforms offering online meetings, trainings, and webinars. Without a commute to contend with, workers can be more efficient with the extra time and have the potential to be more effective in their jobs. As virtual collaboration has replaced in-person meetings and even some business trips, working remotely is becoming a way of life. Some companies are even offering permanent telecommuting business models. A home office may be the perfect place for you to grow your career!

Investing in a quality pair of headphones is one way to help focus on tasks by reducing ambient noise. Distractions from partners, children, and pets will be inevitable; therefore, finding a dedicated workspace that is free from interruptions is key. A workplace set apart from others in the home—with a door (and lock!)—is ideal.
