The Dating Game: Finding Your Realtor® I t is said that real estate is a
relationship business. And for some Realtors, I believe this holds true. (My previous article, “Dating Your Realtor”, was about the variables of how a Realtor relationship can look.) But, if you are not already in your committed Realtor relationship, how do you go about meeting the Realtor of your dreams?
W hether we acknowledge this statement
or not, we all have expectations about a partner and expectations for what we consider acceptable in a relationship. No matter what your level of expectation, you should expect, at a minimum, that your Realtor treats you with respect, skill, care, and diligence; and does so in a manner that reflects integrity, morality, and an ethical obligation to you.
J ust as in any relationship, communication is key. Communication is not only
about how, but also how often, you wish to hear from your partner. When looking to take that first date to the next level, it is important that you also clearly define your needs and that your expectations are transparent, so you can determine whether your Realtor partner is meeting and honoring them.
Typically these needs and expectations are not far off from what you desire
from someone who presents themself to you as a person worthy of receiving your time and attention; i.e. a possible love interest. As you begin dating, you may find that communication with a Realtor may mimic the “Goldilocks and the Three Bears” variations of real life dating. One Realtor may come on incredibly strong, very suave, and very persistent. This may be right up your alley, or you may find it feels like borderline stalking. Another Realtor may be like that date you had who exercised the “72 hour rule”, making you wonder if they are even thinking about you as much as you are thinking about them. And then, finally, you find THE ONE, who is “juuuust right!” Contacting you just as you were having a thought about them, and providing you the answer or information you were just looking for.

S o. How do you go about finding your “Mr./Ms. Right” in this (imaginary)
wide world of real estate dating? If you are expecting to have more than a one time exchange (or transaction) with an agent, you will likely do some form of research, just as you would with any human you are considering opening up to. In the next few articles, I will explore the most common ways “engagements” take place between the public and real estate professionals including points to consider as you search for your …..suitor.

“?
I nternet Dating has become a huge vehicle for people meeting and connecting. The face of internet dating has evolved over the years, from sites that evaluate compatibility, to social media and social connection apps seeking to fulfill instant gratification. Similarly, the internet and social media have changed the face of real estate, both in marketing properties and in promoting real estate professionals. While reviewing references is certainly important, keep in mind that only “looking to the stars” to try and find your new “housing honey” may not always be a true and full story. After all, which picture are you likely to use to head up your dating profile? What narrative would you promote about yourself? “Paying for Placement” is another business marketing strategy. It is why there are Search Engine Optimization companies that literally make millions. They are counting on businesses that are looking to increase their odds of “dating” you. Just as you may have a healthy skepticism to avoid being “catfished”, it is important to remain aware that Realtor reviews can be enticed, edited, or even expunged. That is why some very good, very seasoned, very knowledgeable agents elect not to engage in the persuasion of internet marketing. While you are making your decision and entering into the real estate world of dating, it is prudent to not be distracted by the shiny stars, as relying on these ratings alone could result in missing your best match.

APRIL IS FAIR HOUSING MONTH April is Fair Housing Month. Each year focus is turned to the Fair Housing Act, which was enacted as a part of the Civil Rights Act of 1968.

Since 1968, the Fair Housing Act protects people from this discrimination, but we must stay mindful of the continued need for the protections it provides.
The purpose of the Act is to have a comprehensive solution to discrimination against and segregation of “protected WANDA CARTER classes” as defined by law—originally: Keller Williams Town & Country Realty race, color, sex, national origin, or religion (later, familial status and disability were added). The idea is to provide equal opportunity for buyers and renters to obtain financing and to live where they desire and where they can afford.
As we continue to evolve into a more perfect nation, state, county, and city, it’s important to remain vigilant about ensuring fairness and supporting equal opportunity in housing. The federal Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) enforces the Act and the Florida Commission on Human Relations enforces state fair housing laws. The National Association of REALTORS® also authorizes sanctions in response to finding that a member has violated any fair housing law, including state and local laws that prohibit discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity.
