2021 ANNUAL REPORT 21st Century Leaders’ strength and distinction lie in the engagement of business leaders as volunteers, retooling corporate leadership training for our programs, and an unyielding commitment to the power of diversity. Throughout our history, 21st Century Leaders has connected thousands of Georgia youth, business professionals, and volunteers for one purpose–to inspire the next generation of leaders to lead our businesses and our communities.

LETTER FROM THE DIRECTOR The commitment from our supporters and our diligence in executing our programs, even virtually, while launching new initiatives, resulted in a new partnership with Science ATL that helped expand our school-based 21CLubs from 14 to 21 clubs. · We launched STEM + 21CLubs in five high schools across five counties in Georgia, impacting 100 new students. · Utilizing each organization’s strengths and resources, we are building a new STEM module that will be housed in our online learning platform, Leadership Connect. That curriculum will serve over 1,000 students–doubling the student enrollment over last year. · WarnerMedia Institute for Future Leaders was expanded to include students from Los Angeles and New York City, serving students outside of Georgia for the first time in our organization’s history. Our commitment and focus on diversity, equity, and inclusion wasn’t new to 2021 programming, but has been woven into all that we are since we were founded in 1989. As an organization, we are proud of that 30+ year commitment, impact, and the change our young leaders and alumni are making in their schools, community, and ultimately the workforce.

With 2021 proving to be another challenging year mentally, emotionally, and financially for so many of us (individually and organizationally), I can’t help but reflect on how grateful we are to be here. We didn’t just make it through 2021, we saw a deeper commitment to our work than ever before. Our board, staff, donors, and volunteers made the very intentional choice to show up and lean in to our students’ needs and our mission.
“Due to 21st Century Leaders, I have a completely different understanding of diversity, equity, and inclusion and will use this new understanding to be a better leader,” said student Emma Lindenmayer from Rome High School in Rome, Georgia. Emma’s reflection truly embodies the impact and importance our programs are providing to high school students and the necessary skills our young leaders should be equipped with. Our students have shown us just how important the opportunity to explore career fields is, as well as the connection to, and conversation with, diverse peers and professionals.
41% of students reported that attending the 21CL program was their first time interacting with peers outside of their geographic area
I’m always blown away by those statistics as it reminds us how imperative representation is for so many of our young people. The earlier we can expose students to the importance of leveraging diversity and being resourceful, passionate, forward-thinking, serviceoriented leaders, the more successful and empathetic leaders they will become. As you’ll see in this report, we simply could not do the work without you. As we know, leaders aren’t born–they’re nurtured, cultivated, and exposed to the opportunities and skills needed for today and tomorrow. You are making the difference. The impact and outcomes are evident. Thank you for going on this journey with us. We can’t wait to see what 2022 brings. Sincerely,
Kate Hewitt Executive Director

21st Century Leaders Clubs (or 21CLubs) are community- and school-based programs designed to build leadership and career pathway skills for students through student-led meetings, service projects, and leadership forums. Each 21CLub serves a dedicated group of students who are supported through the efforts of an advising teacher or faculty member. LEADERSHIP EXCHANGE Leadership exCHANGE is 21CL’s live leadership training experience held in the first semester of school focusing on exchanging ideas, thoughts, and career opportunities on a range of topics and themes. In 2020, the one-day summit focused on Civic Engagement & Leadership. Students joined together online to learn about the four pillars of civic engagement, consider their opportunities for civic action and involvement, and connect with community leaders and 21CL alumni who are civically engaged in various ways. Student attendees heard from motivational speakers, networked with alumni, and engaged with their peers in a debate that highlighted 21CL’s “3 C’s”–cooperation, communication, and compassion.
“No matter what your background is, you can find opportunities for yourself to get involved, be involved, and stay involved.” - Arie’una Long, Lake Oconee Academy

HIGHLIGHTS
NEW PARTNERSHIPS CURRICULUM A partnership with Science ATL was secured by 21CL and supported by Cox Enterprises and the Greater Atlanta COVID-19 Response and Recovery Fund through United Way of Greater Atlanta and Community Foundation of Greater Atlanta. The partnership allowed 21CL to enroll over 50 new students in the 20202021 fiscal year and develop a new STEMbased curriculum to be released during the 2022 school year. 21CL continued a partnership with the Metro Atlanta Regional Commission (MARC) Youth Leadership Program which enrolled over 50 students and created more lessons and activities for their specific curriculum housed on our platform.
“Leadership Connect has been one of the most helpful and positive platforms I have ever used. I really enjoy the interactive activities because they allow me to apply what I’m learning. The topics that the modules discuss are very informative, and I can easily connect to the different ideas. Each subject shows me a new skill to develop and reflect upon.”
Lastly, 21CL finalized and released Level 3 curriculum with a focus on lifeready skills including financial literacy, health and wellness, civic engagement, and professional development. Level 3 consists of more than 20 lessons and activities that provide students with the opportunity to learn life skills that will serve them in high school and their future careers.

smile and laugh, especially through his poems and raps! He truly loved life. He had a full scholarship to The College of Wooster in Ohio with plans to attend the U.S. Naval Academy. A total of $5,501 was raised for the Elijah Major Memorial Fund and provided to his mother to help cover expenses: · $3,401 was raised by 21st Century Leaders students, alumni, volunteers, parents, and supporters of the organization · 21st Century Leaders was proud to donate $2,100 We are grateful to our 21st Century Leaders community and the giving spirit you embody.
