01TRANSPORT COMMUTING NODE OF URBAN AND SUBURBAN TRAFFIC AT SAMARA RAILWAY STATION The railway stations become again the centres for attraction of transportation flows, place of passage, stay and interest of large heaps of people. And it includes not only passengers directly arriving or leaving, but the part of social spaces of the city like shopping streets and malls, places of entertainment and recreation where there is an area meeting certain interests of each person. In addition, the urban space has to be organized and purposely transformed in such a way that not only transport but a specific social function of the railway station gains the maximum expressive and at the same time convenient for use embodiment. The special attention is derived from here to the projects of town‑planning development and planification of the territories adjacent to the railway stations, primarily to organization of transportation flows, car lots, parking places, public transport, to tracing of pedestrian routes, and to ensuring confident visual orientation. The first belt of space, surrounding the station and facilitating the access, approach and entry inside the railway station complex, becomes an independent town‑planning structure saturated with the transport designation facilities inviting and introducing a person into the world of the road. The external belt, to which the streets and quarters covering the railway station belong, gains additional momentum of the growth of investment and functional properties while increasing the location rating of real estate units and, correspondingly, their cost. With regard to this circumstance the prospects of construction of commercial facilities in the territories of railroad
precinct obtain serious investment argumentation. ain serious investment argumentation. Inside the railway station complex its own scenario unrolls, following which the passengers, visitors and guests receive a wide range of possible actions. The transit flows “entrance‑trains” open new and new spaces along its course going in parallel and filled with offers of services — from catering and recreation, trade, personal service to exhibition and cultural‑entertainment facilities. A sophisticated spatial organization of passenger flows, especially inherent to multimodal complexes and hubs, allows for achieving the same spatially developed system of service of these flows while creating a range unique selection of services of the super structure. The adjacent or other urban facilities functionally interacting with the railway station complex — hotels, apartment hotels, office conglomerations, production units of post‑industrial generation — represent a possibility for the formation of urbanized areas of maximum intensity and density of the facilities in the urban territory. And it is the very railway that plays the leading role in ensuring such a possibility. The principle of the railway as a horizontal elevator starts working — the majority of users of these town‑planning superstructures must arrive and depart from here by railway transport not loading the street and road network with its cars. The railway station complex represents in this case the top of another, spatial and communication structure superposed towards the city street and road network — superstructure if in terms of spatial organization of town‑planning facilities.

The project provides for development of the area of 121,75 ha. It provides for not only transformation of the railway station into the hub but the development of the whole district as well. The city will receive 189 000 sq. m of office areas, 4600 of new apartments for 12,000 people, a park with the area of 3,5 ha. REDEVELOPMENT OF INDUSTRIAL AREA The history of Samara city begins from this territory. Samara was developing from this place across the rivers Volga and Samara like a sector. Samara was the «bread» capital in the end of the 19th century. There were mills and bread factory here. Unfortunately, a big amount of old industrial buildings were demolished in Soviet time. So, this area has its own historic value and it would be reorganized. The main idea of this project is creating multifunctional zone with recreational area where citizens and tourists could spend their time, could work and study. Proposals: -creating green zone for improving environment (nowadays there is a lack of green area); -creating centres of attraction for different social groups (not only commercial and entertaining but educational scientific and cultural centres); -mixture of different functions for providing streams of people during the day and in all periods of the year («living» area); -creating «generators of variety»; -residential area; - creating innovation centre in surrounding area for economic development of the city; - mills transformations into the art centre; - reorganizing transport infrastructure; - parking; - areas for mass celebrations; - areas for fairs, summer festivals, traditional winter holidays, etc.; - stub-end elevated underground railway station;

RESIDENTIAL COMPLEX WITH SAVED OLD FACADES
VIEW FROM RIVER VOLGA Special attention was given to influencing and promoting activities, interaction and micro-climates. Day and night, summer and winter activities were seen as a keystone to creating a vibrant and sustainable disrict. To create a range of special places and different characters, the same kinds of functions are placed in proximity to each other. This means that the most activity creating functions are assembled, thus creating lively and exciting places. A masterplan was instrumental in creating sensual and permeable sequences of green spaces and water to intertwine within the urban fabric. This unique linkage system of intriguing paths, lanes and squares promotes variations of discovery. The water’s edge is designed to invite residents for leisurely walks and cycle rides along most of the coastline.
WINTER/SUMMER ACTIVITIES
VIEW FROM RIVER VOLGA Except for the preservation historical district to the north redeveloping area is designed to offer residents a full variety of experiences and services within their general vicinity thus relieving them of having to travel to adjacent districts for necessities. The aim of this project is designing a museum in a small park near the embankment of the river Volga. There was a swimming pool which was demolished within this area. The main idea is creating a building like an ÂŤArt ObjectÂť in picturesque landscape of Gorky Park. The main tools for creating the project are simple shape, white colour and light. Interiors are white too. Consequently, internal and external spaces are not separated. People can enjoy all processes in, out and between internal and external spaces. From the place for contemplation and meditation people can see the other bank of Volga and white simple shape of museum.

The aim of this project is designing residental district by means of three-level service system and microdistrict principle. This area is accepted like depressive. Dilapidated houses and pollution are to be concerned. The advantage of this territory is that it is located near the river Samara and historic centre of the city. The main idea is creating various space with compound prospects by using simple shape of square 6x6. Modules 6x6 organize the residental development on «tetris-snake» principle. Public zone is organized to provide an access for every inhabitant of this district. This project is created with all planning transport infrastructure changes in our city such as bypass highway and Karl Marx’s highway.

PAVILION «3X3» AND «TETRAGON QUEST»
pavilion’s authors: Petr Slastenin, Lidiia Leonova, Ilya Nekrasov, Valeriia Rudneva, Renata Nasybulina,Dmitriy Zavarzin,Georgiy Iakovlev mapping’s authors: Lidiia Leonova, Georgiy Iakovlev The conception of mapping installation is based on the ideas of Neoplasticism. The pavillion was created for celebration of «World Day of Architecture» in Samara. The students’ works and photos were exhibited. Our team built this object by hand. The total value was about 200 euros.

PAVILION «SHADOWS’ ACTING» Meditation pavillion for competition in Nizhniy Novgorod. Team work: Petr Slastenin, Lidiia Leonova, Valeriia Rudneva, Kristina Kvartalnova, Daria Zmazneva The main idea is that this construction makes beautiful shadows on the ground and these shadows are changing during the day. Also, benches are located diagonally: therefore, visitors have the choice between communicating or meditation. Total value-15 000rub/250 euros

Competition projects evaluation criteria: – compliance with the specified function – solidity – artistic value – originality – economic efficiency – replicability – transportability and possibility for multiple assembling – well illuminated inner space – compliance with environmental conditions (summer – autumn in SaintPetersburg)

The main idea is using traditional forms in new functions. The «stove» has main interior function: bed, kitchen, cupboard, wardrobe and entrance area. Metalware and wood are two main materials. All wood surfaces are painted by mordant. The concept of interior is the contrast between the stove and internal space. This residental unit can be prefabricated and multiplied. Its exteriors fall into different Russian countryside contexts. Total value-100 000rub/ 1 500 euros
