Hello Conscious Life friends It is with great sadness that we have bid farewell to one of our contributors, Heather Picton, who sadly passed away on the 17th of September after a long journey with Cancer. Heather founded and headed the ADD/ADHD Foundation, ADHASA. She was so passionate about helping others live a better life and made it her life’s work. She gave selflessly, was a kind and loving person, a wonderful loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. She was a close friend of mine, like family really, and she will be sorely missed. Next month we will run a tribute to her in the mag. To her family and friends, we send our love and light. With love Cj Stott Matticks Friends, please start making arrangements with your neighbours or local kennels if you are going away over the festive season. Last year the shelters were overflowing with pets who had been left at home to fend for themselves. There is always someone who will take care of your animals, and if you are stuck for ideas – please call us. Our magazines are usually published by the second week of each month, reason being that, once again, we are not conventional. We like to delight our readers with something fresh and insightful to read once you have gotten over the month end rush, and can put your feet up with a nice ‘cuppa’ tea, and consciously relax with us. Till next month – be well.
With much Love

A MASSIVE HAPPY 90th BIRTHDAY TO LOUISE L. HAY ABOUT LOUISE Dubbed “the closest thing to a living saint” by the Australian media, Louise Hay is also known as one of the founders of the selfhelp movement. Her first book, Heal Your Body, was published in 1976, long before it was fashionable to discuss the connection between the mind and body. Revised and expanded in 1988, this best-selling book introduced Louise’s concepts to people in 33 different countries and has been translated into 25 languages throughout the world. FROM STRUGGLE TO STRENGTH Through Louise’s healing techniques and positive philosophy, millions have learned how to create more of what they want in their lives, including more wellness in their bodies, minds, and spirits. Her own personal philosophy was forged from her tormented upbringing. Her childhood was unstable and impoverished, and her teen years were marked by abuse. Louise ran away from home and ended up in New York City, where she became a model and married a prosperous businessman.
Through Louise’s healing techniques and positive philosophy, millions have learned to create more of what they want in their lives–more wellness in their bodies, minds, and spirits. Although it appeared that her life had turned around, it was not until the marriage ended 14 years later that her healing really began. Louise started what would become her life’s work in New York City in 1970. She attended meetings at the Church of Religious Science and began training in the ministerial program. She became a popular speaker at the church, and soon found herself counseling clients. This work quickly blossomed into a full-time career. After several years, Louise compiled a reference guide detailing the mental causes of physical ailments, and developed positive thought patterns for reversing illness and creating health. This compilation was the basis for Heal Your Body, also known affectionately as “the little blue book.” She began traveling throughout the United States, lecturing and facilitating workshops on loving ourselves and healing our lives.
Louise was able to put her philosophies into practice when she was diagnosed with cancer. She considered the alternatives to surgery and drugs, and instead developed an intensive program of affirmations, visualization, nutritional cleansing, and psychotherapy. Within six months, she was completely healed of cancer. In 1980, Louise moved back to her native Southern California, and it was here that she began putting her workshop methods on paper. In 1984, her new book, You Can Heal Your Life, was published. In it, Louise explains how our beliefs and ideas about ourselves are often the cause of our emotional problems and physical maladies and how, by using certain tools, we can change our thinking and our lives for the better.
You Can Heal Your Life reached the New York Times bestseller list and remained on it for 13 consecutive weeks. More than 50 million copies of You Can Heal Your Life have been sold throughout the world. Twenty years later, due to her appearances on the Oprah Winfrey Show, You Can Heal Your Life was again on the New York Times bestseller list. The first time in that publication’s history that has happened! In 1985, Louise began her famous support group, “The Hayride,” with six men diagnosed with AIDS. By 1988, the group had grown to a weekly gathering of 800 people and had moved to an auditorium in West Hollywood. Once again, Louise had started a movement of love and support long before people began to wear red ribbons in their lapels. It was during this time that she wrote The AIDS Book: Creating a Positive Approach, based on her experiences with this powerful group. Louise started Hay House, Inc., a successful publishing company. What began as a small venture in the living room of her home has turned into a prosperous corporation that has sold millions of books and products worldwide. Hay House authors include many notables in the self-help movement, including Dr. Wayne Dyer, Joan Borysenko, Dr. Christiane Northrup, and Doreen Virtue, among others. In addition, The Hay Foundation is a non-profit organization established by Louise that encourages and financially supports diverse organizations which supply food, shelter, counseling, hospice care and money to those with AIDS, battered women and other crises. At 81, Louise released her first-ever film on her life and work You Can Heal Your Life: The Movie. To watch the trailer visit www.youcanhealyourlifemovie.com. When she’s not traveling, Louise enjoys painting, gardening, and dancing at her home in San Diego, California.

What it Means to Play Safe in the Sun… It’s so important to know the dangers of exposure to the sun and also how to reduce the risk of skin cancer which is the result of skin cell damage that begins in the lower part of the epidermis (the top layer of the skin). At least 80% of sun-induced skin damage occurs before the age of 18 and only manifests later in life.
Reducing the Risk The good news is that the risk of skin cancer can be reduced by respecting the sun and following these tips: • Avoid direct sunlight between 10 am and 3 pm. Stay in the shade or under an umbrella as much as possible • Wear protective clothing; wide brimmed hats and UV protective clothes / swimsuits • Wear sunglasses with a UV protection rating of minimum UV400 • Always apply sunscreen regularly (SPF of 20 – 50) according to skin type. Anyone can get skin cancer, regardless of race, age or sex. People with fair skin have a higher chance of getting skin cancer while dark-skinned people are still at risk. • Avoid Sunbeds and Sunlamps • Spot-the-spot: Check your skin carefully every month (follow A, B, C, D, E rules) – find more info here…
Screening CANSA has five mole-mapping dermoscope devices called the FotoFinder used to examine moles and help reduce the risk. Every client with suspicious skin damage is referred for an intensive skin evaluation. Examinations are available at some CANSA Care Centres. People with albinism are the most vulnerable for damage by ultraviolet radiation. CANSA successfully lobbied and helped to ensure that the government now supplies approved sunscreen (aligned to the CANSA Seal of Recognition standards) at adequate levels of supply at public hospitals.
Get to Know the Lingo… Knowing your skin is important, but knowing what terms like SPF, UV, UPF and spot-the-spot means, is just as important – especially when it comes to staying safe in the sun. • SPF stands for Sun Protection Factor, and is usually found on sunscreen bottles – it’s a measure of how well it protects your skin against UV rays and indicates how long you could spend in the sun before burning when protected by sunscreen, compared to when you have no sunscreen on. CANSA encourages the use of SPF 20-50 according to skin type. • UV refers to ultraviolet light emitted by the sun. UV rays have disruptive effects on skin cells, which cause sunburn, and can result in skin cancer. • UPF is similar to the SPF indication on sunscreen, but UPF is usually found on clothing. It indicates the Ultraviolet Protection Factor of clothing, sunglasses and hats, to protect you against the UV rays of the sun. • Spot-the-spot is a term to encourage you to do self-examinations on your skin. It’s important to keep a track of marks, moles and spots on your skin and to make note of any changes. Make sure to follow the ABCDE rules when doing these selfexams.
Skin Cancer Common in SA South Africa has the 2nd highest incidence of skin cancer in the world after Australia, as far as Caucasians are concerned. Myths •

The sun is only dangerous in summer or on a hot day Sunscreen will protect me completely from the harmful effects of the sun’s rays One or two cases of sunburn won’t result in skin cancer People with darker skins are not at risk for getting skin cancer Sunbeds are a safer alternate to obtain a tan
The Truth About Tanning There is no such thing as a healthy tan – even a sunless tan… In recent years there has been a considerable increase in the use of sunless and self-tanning products such as sprays, mousses, gels, pills, nasal sprays & injections called Melanotan 1 and 11. Melanotan 11 has serious side effects, and may induce malignant melanoma. CANSA warns against this product.
Tips: Sunscreen & Protective Garments
Although some self-tanning products contain sunscreen, it offers minimal ultraviolet radiation protection. It does not provide protection from the ultraviolet rays of the sun and CANSA strongly discourages individuals to use any form of tanning product.
With credit to TED-Ed. Original video at Why do we have to wear sunscreen – Kevin P. Boyd
FOLLOW THESE TIPS 1. Use an Effective Sunscreen
ONE OF THE GREAT SUNSCREENS TO TRY:
• We have raised our Seal of Recognition standards & requirements for sunscreens. In addition to current SA standards, as of 1 April 2013, sunscreens bearing our Seal need to comply with the European Colipa Standards. • Our new CANSA Seal of Recognition logo (CSOR) appears on approved sunscreen products and is a guarantee that the manufacturers of these UV protective products have complied with CANSA’s strict set of criteria – see new logo to the right. • See list of CANSA’s SunSmart Sunscreen Partners… • Be sure to use a sunscreen with an SPF of between 20 and 50 & 30 and 50 for fair to very fair skin. • Products usually expire two years after manufacture – don’t use a product that has been opened and used after a year has passed.
2. Apply Sunscreen Correctly • It’s important to know the best SPF for your skintype • Always apply sunscreen 20 minutes before you go outside and re-apply at least every two to three hours
3. Wear Protective Clothing • Wear sunglasses with a UV protection rating of UV400 • Wear protective clothing & swimsuits and thicklywoven fabric hats with wide brims – avoid caps where the neck & ears are exposed • Buy SunSmart garments & apparel… – look out for CANSA’s swing tags (right) & SunSmart Choice logo (top right) on clothing, hats & summer fun accessories.
Educate & Protect Children • Our youth should take special precaution when spending time in the sun – two blistering burns before the age of 18, can dramatically increase the risk of getting skin cancer later in life. • Parents and schools need to play an increasingly important role in educating our youth re being SunSmart. Unfortunately a recent study shows that most schools are not SunSmart. Read more…

Do you suffer from spring-time allergies? For many of us the annual blooming of plants and release of pollen into the atmosphere brings a runny nose, watery eyes and a very itchy skin. When we are exposed to pollen, either through inhaling or by direct contact with the skin, the body releases histamines which then lead to these inflammation-related symptoms. It can leave us feeling fatigued and irritable when we should be enjoying spring, the season of renewal and rejuvenation, in all its glory. There is unfortunately no cure for spring allergies and they are impossible to avoid, but there are ways to reduce exposure and to manage the symptoms.
Tips To Manage Your Spring Allergies 1.Try to stay indoors when the pollen count is highest (usually in the mornings) and keep doors and windows closed to keep allergens out. 2.Vacuum regularly, but be sure to wear a mask and protective clothing to avoid the dust and pollen that is kicked up in the process. Clean places where dust, mold and pollen tend to collect. 3.Wash your hair more regularly, especially after going outside, because hair attracts and collects pollen easily. 4.Wear soft and loose fabrics, such as cotton, that is more tolerable to a sensitive and itchy skin. Try to cover the body as much as possible when going outside. 5.Reduce your alcohol intake. Naturally occurring histamine in alcohol could worsen your symptoms. 6.Stress less. Stress affects your immune system and can intensify your response to allergens. 7.Calm and soothe skin allergies and rashes with plant-based ointments such as the African Potato Cream which contains natural ingredients high in anti-inflammatory properties. 8.Treat the delicate area around the nose that may be aggravated from continuously having to wipe a runny nose with a gentle anti-microbial ointment, like the Clear Skin Gel, to prevent bacteria from infecting broken skin and causing further inflammation. 9.Use a face cream, like the Revive Moisturiser, that is formulated for sensitive skin and that can help reduce redness, puffiness and inflammation. 10.Consult a doctor about taking anti-histamines which can help reduce allergy symptoms.

My love affair with Egypt started in November 2011 when I visited there for the first time. It was like returning home. It was familiar yet strange. It was Magical, Mystical and Life Changing. Because of the enormous growth I experienced there, I decided then that this was the place that I would love to take groups of people, to assist them to release fear and move into a space of Love and Freedom. I released so much fear and opened my heart wide. I learnt tolerance and celebration of a culture that was completely new to me. The lifestyle is so different in Egypt. The people are kind, very kind. They go out of their way to assist you in any way they can. They become your best friends in a blink of an eye. Egypt is noisy, busy, over populated and hot. Although the country is set in a desert, one tends to forget that. The Nile provides ample water supply and is used to create beautiful gardens, lush crops and serenity, in a place that is bustling with noise all the time.
Egypt is a land of Mysteries. There is an ancient holiness to it. Just look at the size of the Pyramids and the Temples. These were built in the time when high tech machinery was not used. This was a time when people living on earth, used their power of Manifestation. They used anti-gravity devices. They had a wisdom far superior to what the current human population has on earth now. They revered the earth. They revered the Gods and brought them into every part of their daily lives. This is why they were so successful in every aspect of their lives. This energy still lingers there. It is there for all of us to access. It is there for us to assist us to move into a higher vibration. It is there to assist us to release fear and move into a place of love.
The Goddess Tour to Egypt in March 2017 is intended to firstly heal ourselves and secondly, but not less importantly to create Balance. A balance of Male and Female energy, in a world where Male Energy is dominant. This male energy has been dominant for centuries now. All the wars, greed, poverty, violence, and addiction indicates we are operating from Ego rather than Soul. When we operate from Soul, there is no need for fear, war, greed, addiction, competition, borders, and passports. We see with the Eye of Love, the Eye of God and everything is Perfection. We become nurturers, peace makers, intuitive and Love. That is our aim. To become Love. How do we balance the Masculine/Feminine Energy of our people? We heal Ourselves. We balance our Feminine Energy. Once this is done, once we have found our inner Goddess, we spread that healing out to the world. The very energy of the Goddess is contagious, and what better way to heal the world? The very nature of the Goddess is Love. So that is the solution I propose. For all the Ego in society right now, we need a balance. We need a whole lot of Feminine Energy. We need surrender, we need love, and we need open hearts. There is a multitude of Female energy in Egypt. All the Goddesses are there and available to us in the Etheric. All we need to do is Ask. Connect. Be open and willing. It is not difficult. It is about surrendering.
The Goddesses that will assist us on this Pilgrimage are: Isis The Egyptian goddess of rebirth remains one of the most familiar images of empowered and utter femininity. Isis was called the Mother of Life, but she was also known as the Crone of Death. Her immense powers earned her the titles of "The Giver of Life" and "Goddess of Magic". The ancient Egyptian goddess Isis has many gifts to share with modern women. Isis embodies the strengths of the feminine, the capacity to feel deeply about relationships, the act of creation, and the source of sustenance and protection.
Nut The Sky Goddess. She swallows the moon at night and gives birth to the sun by day. She is also known as the Mother Goddess. She gave birth to Isis and Osiris. The goddess Nut was widely known for her spectacular beauty and incredible kindness. The myths of the goddess Nut instruct us to never give up our hold on our precious dreams. She reminds us to persevere and to accept the help of others when we need it.
Hathor She is known as the Golden One. All the Goddess contain aspects of her because she is holds all the aspects of the Goddess. Essentially she is known as the Goddess of Music, Dance, Joy, Motherhood and Love. She is the daughter of Ra the Sun God and Nut the Goddess of the Sky.
Sekhmet The Powerful One. Protector of the Pharaohs’. She was said to breathe fire at the enemies of the Pharaohs’. It is important to remember that Pharaohs’ had achieved Ascension status. Thus they were living examples of how we should live our lives in order to achieve our Soul Purpose. Sekhmet may seem terrifying, but she was a Warrior of Light and Love, protecting everything Holy. In addition to the Goddess, we will be asking for the presence of the Ascended Masters, Mother Mary and Mary Magdalene.

Reawakening the Goddess The Goddess is the Holy Grail As a Feminine Being she manifests the Divine Masculine’s Creation. The Masculine and Feminine are dependent on one another to bring the creation into manifestation. There cannot be one without the other. The Divine created Love, which is what we are, however the events in our lives and the way we choose to live our lives at present, creates a block for this flow of Love and manifests as fear. In order for this Love to become Manifest here on our Beloved Planet Earth, we, as the Holy Grail, need to empty our cups, of everything that is holding us back and blocking our Feminine Essence.
The nature of the Goddess is soft, open hearted, surrendered, an empty cup, and ready to receive and then overflow. How do we become the Goddess? How do we balance our Masculine Energy? How do we create Heaven on Earth? Firstly we need to identify in ourselves, everything that is not Love and transmute it. Anything that is not love is fear and that is going against the natural flow of the Goddess.
“Your task is not to seek for love, but merely to seek and find all the barriers within yourself that you have built against it.” - Rumi
In order to transmute anything that is not love, it is necessary to enter into a place of stillness, quiet your mind, and examine within your body the places that are holding onto fear, anxiety, anger, illness, negativity, and a sense of lack. You may be holding a lot of this negative energy, or only a little. But the point is that you have the desire and the ability to start emptying your cup, so that it can hold more and more Love. The more you empty, the easier it will become, since you will be holding and attracting more Light from the very beginning. It is never too late to ask yourself, “Am I ready to change the life I am living? Am I ready to change within? Even if a single day in your life is the same as the day before, it surely is a pity. At every moment and with each new breath, one should be renewed and renewed again. There is only one-way to be born into a new life: to die before death. The Forty Rules of Love" by Elif Shafak
"When you are inspired by some great purpose, some extraordinary project, all your thoughts break their bonds; your mind transcends limitations, your consciousness expands in every direction, and you find yourself in a new, great and wonderful world. Dormant forces, faculties and talents become alive, and you discover yourself to be a greater person by far than you ever dreamed yourself to be." Pant Anjali Yoga (c.200 BC) Sutras Ancient Egyptians believed that at the time of death, the heart of the deceased was weighed against a feather. If the heart was found to be lighter than the feather, then that soul could ascend, and be free of incarnation. In order for the heart to be lighter than the feather, it had to be pure. There were to be no obstructions to love. The Ancient Egyptians spent their lives revering life, living in joy, celebrating with family and friends, and also working on keeping their hearts pure and light as feathers. On the Goddess Tour to Egypt, we will be doing this work. We will be emptying our Holy Grail of anything that is blocking Love. The Goddesses, Isis, Hatchepsut, Hathor, Sekhmet, Magdalene and Mother Mary will assist us.
The Temples are Holy Energy centers where we will set our intention to remove obstacles, and the energy in them will be of great assistance. Sitting between the paws of the Sphinx and setting our intention again, will heighten our healing. If you have the desire to start your journey of emptying your Holy Grail, in order for it to be filled with Divine Love, do join me. I would be honoured to have your Presence. May we have hearts as light as feathers, may we be the ones consciously creating a new earth, free of fear and filled with Love.
“If you want to strengthen your faith, you will need to soften inside. For your faith to be rock solid, your heart needs to be as soft as a feather. Through an illness, accident, loss or fright, one way or another, we are all faced with incidents that teach us how to become less selfish and judgmental and more compassionate and generous. Yet some of us learn the lesson and manage to become milder, while some others end up becoming even harsher than before…”
If you would like to take the bold step in recalling the Goddess within, join me on this magnificent tour to Egypt. We will call in the Goddesses for assistance. We will invite our Feminine Selves back and we will be transformed. Strong, beautiful women, deigned to lead our society back to a place of Love rather than Ego. This is our calling.

By Hanna Kok How stressed are you? And how is it affecting your health, relationships, sleeping pattern, your overall sense of well-being? The higher your stress levels, the more you are just surviving. If we can understand what causes stress, then we can do something about it and we can actually reduce the stress in your life so that you thrive more and more each day.
What causes stress? The desire that our life (past, present or future) would be different. Let's explore a few examples.
Example 1: Studying For Exams Exam time is coming up and you are stressing. Maybe you don't know the material that well. You desire that the exams, were not on your doorstep, that you studied more or something else. You might be worried that you are going to fail and you desire that you will pass. Stress is caused by "fighting" with what is, instead of accepting what is and making the best of it.
How to reduce stress in exam time: Instead of worrying about the exams, it is important to accept that the exams are on your doorstep. Then you focus on what you can do.
Conscious Life Magazine
You can start with making sure you can to study as effectively as possible. One way to do that is to ensure your whole brain is "switched-on" for learning. Did you know that when you are stressed, large parts of the brain switch off up to 86%, including your frontal lobes. This is where your higher thinking is located, which you really need for problem solving, creative thinking etc. You cannot afford studying and writing exams without these frontal lobes supporting you. Did you know that whole brain functions better that than the sum of the different sections together? When all parts work in unison, we get Creative Listening, Serf-actualized communication, My Rhythm, Language with meaning and more.

Rejuvenation Programme
Rejuvenate Your DNA and Boost Your Immunity in 3 months! The ever increasing array of toxins affecting us along with depleted, chemically treated soil and plants results in poor food quality and these factors damage our DNA, weaken our immune systems and cause disease. By Jane Mackenzie The Rejuvenation Programme is validated using Live Blood Analysis assessments before, during and after three months to determine free radical damage to red blood cells and white blood cell count and health. The key to successful rejuvenation is to remove the causes of the illness or discomfort as far as is possible. This may mean an examination of heredity factors and inherited diseases. Damage to the chromosomes, genes and telomeres results in disease patterns being passed down from one generation to the next. “The problem being that the occurrence of the inherited disease appears at a younger and younger age as the generations continue, which is why we are seeing hypertension and cardiac damage, diabetes, cancer, high cholesterol, brain neurological, emotional and autoimmune disease at younger and younger ages, explains Jane.
This is the field known as Epigenetics and this is one area in which Jane specialises to begin rejuvenating the body. Apart from eating nutrient dense foods such as green juices, bee pollen, the algae, medicinal mushrooms and adaptogenic herbs, and avoiding environmental toxins and the stressor foods such as heated animal and vegetable fat, sugar, processed food, wheat, one can use the SCIO (Scientific Consciousness Interface Operator) to repair damaged chromosomes, genes, foci and telomeres, DNA and RNA and boost the immunity via the scalar wave and bioresonance programmes.
“Restoring your body to its Natural Harmonic Balance can be achieved relatively easily”, says Jane Mackenzie, Rejuvenating Practitioner and Consulting Pharmacist, as the body is designed to self-heal given the correct nutritional building blocks and removal of the stressors”. Optimum nutrition from nutrient dense foods is essential to provide the building blocks for cell growth, repair and production of White Blood Cells for immunity. Organic foods contain the highest percentage of minerals and antioxidants and the least concentration of chemicals and will aid in the repair of DNA and boost immunity. Then by adding Heavenly Harmony Nutrient Dense Foods the natural repair to RBC’s and WBC’s, DNA and increased immunity is potentiated and incorporated into the Heavenly Harmony Rejuvenation Programme. Individual nutrition programmes are followed and will include nutrient dense foods. Effective and validated detoxification programmes are essential to support and drive any rejuvenation and repair programme and to boost immunity. Heavenly Harmony Lyme’s Gold herbal and mineral dense products like Ormus and probiotics like Live Microbiome Reset with enzymes assist in detoxifying and cleansing the body of unwanted chemical, heavy metal and parasitic toxins. The heated Far Infra-Red Sauna will not only melt the fat encasing the toxins such as insecticides and heavy metal poisons but it will also kill parasites and pathogenic microbes and with increased circulation enable the body to sweat this all out.
This 14-micron Infra-Red Sauna will penetrate the body by 3-4 cm further enhancing toxin removal. Once the toxins are removed the immune system and white blood cells can be used to restore the body. “You instantly feel better and can think clearer once you have spent 30 mins in this sauna,” says Jane. Ozone tub combined with infra-red therapy does the same thing but the ozone enters the blood stream via the skin and is another option especially where oxygen levels are low. The benefits of reduced toxins are that the WBC’s can continue with rejuvenation and the brain functions optimally and concentration improves.
One also needs to address stress, blocked emotions and remove neurological mentally retained toxins as these factors have a damaging effect on the immune system and DNA damage as if there is excess secretion of adrenalin and cortisol, these substances act as free radicals and do serious damage. Stress reduction techniques and food rich in antioxidants and free of free radicals, like cold pressed, oxygen and light protected vegetable oil, is critical to combat free radical damage and protect the heart, brain, DNA and white blood cells. The benefits of this three-month Rejuvenation Programme will be documented in next month’s issue as we perform live case studies over a three-month period.

Returning to Your Heart A wise person once said, “Nature is held together by the energy of love.” I’ve always been fascinated by the innate wisdom of nature. Plants grow out of the mud up towards the light. By Wendy Young People grow in much the same way. If we deny the deep, dark places of the soul we dampen the fire that sustains our growth. But if we stay too long in those dark places we can become lost to our destiny, which is to evolve our heart to its fullest capacity. I became a therapist out of a need to find myself. It all began when I did a course in Thai massage. Someone on the course told me about Reiki and energy healing. I was fascinated by this mystical world I’d never before encountered. I began exploring different healing modalities; before I knew it I was hooked on inner enquiry. When I started to massage professionally I quickly filled up my week. In no time I was working myself to the point of exhaustion. Then it struck me that I was healing others as a way of avoiding my own pain and dysfunction. I realised that in order to sustain myself as a healer, I would first have to heal myself.
My spiritual journey took me to the Mandala Yoga Ashram in Wales. There I was exposed to excellent teachers from whom I learnt the ancient wisdom of Yoga and Tantra, Ayurveda and Buddhist meditation. I am grateful for this grounding in eastern mystical thought and practice. Today I teach Yoga and run Ayurvedic cooking courses. But the central part of my practice is transpersonal counselling. What does ‘transpersonal’ mean? The term refers to a type of personal development that also includes spiritual development. The ego magically holds our psychological and cultural beliefs and values. To be fully human is to develop a healthy ego that guides our moral choices and successfully integrates us into the culture. But this is only the first half of the human journey. Something deep within seeks freedom from our conditioning, seeks a return to that embodied joy we experienced as infants…a return to the Heart.
Much of the time therapy may feel like we’re digging in the mud for lost, wounded fragments of ourselves. This is a necessary part of therapy, but is only half the story. The metaphor of the plant teaches that we cannot stay in the mud, our calling is also to reach for the light. Resolving past hurts gives us the confidence and energy to grow into the life of our Divine calling. This is the virtuous cycling of transpersonal growth. And the best way to sustain the cycle is by learning to re-inhabit our bodies and feel what we’re feeling. My workshop Returning to Your Heart (Saturday, 26 November 2016) is an invitation to begin living from the truth and wisdom ever-present in the body. All that we’ve repressed, as well as all the blissful states of freedom - in fact everything we’ve ever experienced - is found in the body. The only way to heal our wounds is to fully open to the feelings and sensations in our bodies. Working with embodied feeling resolves unconscious patterns of repression and acting out. “When we actually open and listen, then an entirely different relationship to life comes into being. Life continues to unfold as before, but because there is no one resisting it and no one turning away from it, there is no suffering, only the experience of openness, freedom, and joy – the experience of full embodiment.” (Reggie Ray, Touching Enlightenment)

MAGENTA Magenta is a strong, bright and vibrant colour which carries a sense of vivacity, magnetism and attraction and it can give one a sense of extra power. It’s the colour of universal love, harmony and emotional balance. It encourages common sense and a balanced outlook on life.
Magenta influences our whole personal and spiritual development. It strengthens our intuition whilst assisting us to rise above the everyday dramas of our daily life to experience a greater level of awareness and knowledge. It uplifts our spirits during times of unhappiness, anger or frustration. Positive aspects: contentment and appreciation for what you have acquired and achieved. Helps to bring awareness of the good within the self and assists one to be totally non-judgmental of the self. Negative aspects: Being surrounded by too much magenta can generate arrogance and bossiness making us feel overwhelmed, irritated, anxious and intolerant.
DECORATING WITH MAGENTA Get creative! Why not try a magenta colour scheme? Your bedroom is the perfect place for you to add every touch of ‘you’ that you can think of. Whether you want an intense bedroom or something with simple highlights, magenta is the perfect playful colour that will help bring out your personality and turn your room into a ‘magenta wonderland’. Accessories are always fun and they really bring out the room. It’s the little things that count, right? Use a dash of magenta in rugs, picture frames, pillows and trinkets for the perfect touch to bring the whole theme together.
HEALING WITH MAGENTA
WEARING MAGENTA
Magenta can be used for treating extreme exhaustion. It can help to jump-start lethargic bodies and those needing revitalizing due to being depleted by illness, injury or trauma. Use the Magenta Oil of Transformation if you are struggling to get out of any situation that keeps replaying in your life especially if you are stuck in the drama of it. It will help you to release old patterns of behaviour and conditioning and it will also strengthen the contact with your life purpose. It is also an excelled oil to use if you are questioning or feeling disconnected from your spiritual source. It opens up the channels in a very personal way, without you following anyone else’s truth.
As magenta is invaluable in negotiating peace and calm in those who are at odds with one another, it would be an appropriate colour to wear when dealing with the public in a customer services position. Most people feel more optimistic and amicable when in the company of magenta. On days when you are feeling a little exposed and defenseless try adding a splash of magenta to what you wearing as this colour can offer protection from one’s vulnerabilities and it can strengthen your resolve to move forward with your life
To enhance your space or aura, why not try the Gateway to the Divine: Magenta Angel of Transformation Spray. It raises the vibrations in a room, which can help if you are needing to be reenergised. It also brings instant lightness to the space while opening the door to the Divine.

Grounding Trees are wonderful and beautiful creations of Nature. They bring in the balance between Heaven and Earth. By Margi McAlpine Their branches reach out to the sky breathing in carbon dioxide and breathing out oxygen which enables us and many other beings on the planet to survive. However their roots are planted firmly in Mother Earth anchoring them to the magical energy of the soil. They receive their nourishment from Mother Earth bringing in the balance because what they give out to others they now receive back. If you have been feeling spaced out, nauseous with headaches and things are just not working as they should, it is because you are not properly grounded. When you are not fully in your body you feel disconnected and cannot function at your optimum level. It is easy to ground yourself. Simply visualise your roots creates negative ties that hold us back.
Simply visualise your roots growing deep into Mother Earth anchoring you to the magical energy of the soil. Follow your breath so that each time you exhale you imagine them going even deeper. Each time you inhale draw up the loving and nurturing energies of Mother Earth. Stamp your feet on the ground or walk barefoot in the soil or grass which will also ground you. If you are able to go outside and stand or sit with your back up against a tree you will feel how solid and grounding it is and you can take in this wonderful energy.

By Guylin van den Berg If you read last month’s article and are quite interested in starting to ride, then we thought this month we could provide you with some rules , written and unwritten, so you can get the best experience out of your weekend rides. We all started somewhere and no one was born fast, we all worked on strengths and weaknesses in order to get better results and to chase mates around the trails, pushing our bodies and equipment in a safe environment. Let’s start by looking at some basic rules of the trail.
Rules of the Trails • Greet other cyclists. • This is a way of acknowledging our beautiful sport and all of us enjoying it together. It doesn’t take much effort. • Do not litter. • Pay to ride, do not jump over fences to save R50, the repercussions for all of us is not worth it. • Give way to faster riders. • Always carry your own spares. • Help other riders. • Always wear a helmet. • Slow down for walkers, horses, dogs etc.
The Unwritten Rules (which also serve as common courtesy) • Wash your bike, don’t be that girl or guy with a dirty bike. • Don’t arrive having to do a major service on your bike in the parking lot. • Be on time. • Bring coffee money. • Limit riding selfies to as little as possible.
Conscious Life Magazine
Mistakes to Avoid as a Beginner: • Bike setup. • Ensure saddle height is correct (slight bend in knee) and handlebars are correct height (same height as saddle or slightly lower). • Do not attempt the Cape Epic on your first ride, take it easy. • Use your gears correctly. • Shift easier before corners and before uphills. • Learn to eat while riding. • Learn to drink from your bottle while riding. • Clip your foot out a few meters before you decide to stop. • Remember to put on sunblock!!!
Tips and tricks to try to build confidence: • Beginners always pump their tyres WAY too hard. • We recommend 20-26psi depending on your weight. • Ride with people slightly better than you. • Attempt a tricky corner a few times, turn around and try it again until you feel more confident, then move on. • Relax upper body to absorb bumps. • Look ahead when cornering to predict what to do.
Which Trails to Start On • In your area, there will be a bike part or cut trails where you can go ride. • Each registered bike park in South Africa has a rating for each trail which ranges from easy to difficult. • Stick to the easy stuff for now, you can work your way up. • Get off and look at an obstacle before attempting to ride. This could save you a crash and broken equipment. • Ride within your limits for now.
Best Routes For Beginners: We found a great website where you can see places to ride throughout South Africa. http://www.mtbroutes.co.za/. For us, the biggest learning was to ride within our capabilities 80% of the time and push our limits 20% of the time to learn new techniques in order to get faster and also more comfortable when riding trails. Choose to ride trails that are safe, even if it means driving there with your car, there is nothing more frightening than coming across obstacles in the trail that you could have avoided by sticking to the safer rider areas.

Next month we will write about how to do a simple setup on the bike, to avoid discomfort and avoid pain in certain areas of the body. We will also focus on some drills you could practice to corner better. If you have any further questions please do not hesitate to ask us at guylin@azzuricycling.com.
About Guylin: I have been racing for 12 years, 4 years on the road before coming back to the mountain biking side. I focus on the longer ultra-marathons on the South African circuit. Our races are average of 100km and take roughly 4-5 hours. I have competed in 5 Cape Epic’s with my best finish being 26th overall. I still love riding my bike every day and finishing off with a good coffee.

FIRST IMPRESSIONS Fantastic Front Gardens Welcoming front gardens that make you feel right at home Gardens may be more of a backyard arrangement, but keeping one in the front of your house is just as rewarding. Not only do you still get to enjoy time with your plants, but you can also beautify your home. Front yards are one of the main attractions of your home’s exterior, so what better way to stand out on the block than with some lush landscaping?
Minimalist arrangements Displays like the this are water efficient and give this home a contemporary look. Rocks and pebbles not only conserve water, but also add touches of color that can highlight the plants’ green hues.
Desert garden These days, water conservation is vital. Instead of a lawn that requires constant watering, this garden houses succulents and other low-maintenance desert plants.
Fresh forest The evergreens in this lush landscape are simple and provide fresh air. What better place to have a miniature forest than in your own front yard? Makes for exciting places for the kids to play ‘hide and seek’.
Archways A radiant arch of roses at the front of a house is picturesque and romantic, greeting guests with a warm welcome. Just double check that there are no thorny bits hanging down.
Flowery walkways This walkway runs through a beautiful flower garden that adds a soft touch to the house. Could you imagine coming home to this charming flower field? Gives us South African a touch of the Old English feel.
Views from the porch If porches are for lounging, then why not have a lovely sight in front? Hanging baskets, a small stream, and a variety of flowers provide a spectacle for all.
Pots and pebbles This crafty setup that includes pebbles can help reduce the amount of water it would take to irrigate these plants.
Tropical delight Palm trees and tropical plants are perfect for creating a cool, refreshing atmosphere. If you feel your front yard needs a little touch up, we hope these images give you the inspiration to tackle a new gardening project. After all, your plants deserve to be shown off!
Tidy shrubbery Neatly trimmed shrubs are common adornments for front yards. The eyecatching pink flowers contrast nicely with the soil and stone wall.
Mulch Mulch is a great alternative for grass. These black-eyed Susan's stand out nicely against the mulch’s brown pigment, the green plants, and the house’s beige paint, giving this landscape a casual but elegant look.
Compass Group, world’s largest food service provider, commits to sourcing only cage-free eggs in global supply chain SOUTH AFRICA (15 September 2016) – Compass Group, the world’s leading food service company with operations in 50 countries and serving around 4 billion meals a year, announced today that it will source only cage-free eggs for its global liquid and shell egg supply chain by 2025. Humane Society International and The Humane Society of the United States have worked with Compass Group around the globe for several years on this and other animal welfare issues, securing cage-free policies for the company’s U.S. and Mexico operations.
In its statement, Nicki Crayfourd, Director of Group Health, Safety and Environment at Compass Group PLC, commented, “Improving the welfare of farm animals is a key focus for our business and we've supported the sourcing of cage free eggs since 2009. This commitment marks the next step in our journey and we look forward to continuing to work with partners such as Compassion in World Farming, Humane Society International and The Humane League who provide invaluable support and guidance.”
Chetana Mirle, director of HSI Farm Animals, said: “By adopting a worldwide commitment to only source cage-free eggs, Compass Group will improve the lives of millions of animals each year. The cage-free egg movement has clearly become one of global significance, and we look forward to working with more companies on similar policies.”
Egg-laying hens are often confined for their whole lives in wire battery cages so small and crowded with other birds that the animals cannot even fully stretch their wings. The use of conventional battery cages for laying hens is banned or being phased out under laws or regulations throughout the EU, five U.S. states, New Zealand and Bhutan.
Conscious Life Magazine
The majority of states in India, which is the world’s third largest egg producer, have declared that the use of battery cages violates the country’s animal welfare legislation, and the country is debating a national ban. Today’s announcement follows a similar commitment made recently by Sodexo, the world’s second largest food service provider, to also switch to a 100 percent cage-free egg supply chain for their global operations. Compass Group joins a growing number of companies that have committed to cage-free egg policies worldwide including Alsea, Unilever, Grupo Bimbo and Nestlé. In South Africa, Woolworth’s has adopted a cage-free egg policy, and cage-free and free-range eggs can also be found at Pick and Pay, Checker’s, and Spar.
Facts: • In 2014 Eurest, Compass Group’s branch in Mexico, partnered with HSI to announce its transition to a 100 percent cage-free egg supply chain in Mexico. • Compass Group received The Humane Society of the United States’ Corporate Progress Award in 2011 for its industry leadership on animal welfare.
About HSI Humane Society International and its partner organizations together constitute one of the world’s largest animal protection organizations. For 25 years, HSI has been working for the protection of all animals through the use of science, advocacy, education and hands on programmes. Celebrating animals and confronting cruelty worldwide – on the Web at hsi.org.

Here are ten fantastic ways you can use the peels to help out around the house.
The banana… One of man’s favorite fruits — delicious, and nutritious. But after chowing down on the ‘potassi-yum’ filled center, wait before you throw out those banana peels!
Grill meat From pork to beef to especially skinless chicken, the banana peel can help you keep meat nice and juicy on the grill. Placing them on top of the meat before flipping will create a skin-like barrier so that the meat will retain its natural moisture.
Fix a scratched CD or DVD If the disc isn’t playing properly, just rub a banana peel on it! Use a gentle circular motion with the inside of the peel, wipe off the residue with a soft cloth, and then spray the disc with some glass cleaner fluid. The peel’s natural wax will fill in the scratches without harming the CD.
Remove a splinter Tape the inside of a banana peel onto the wound and leave it for 30 minutes. The skin will absorb the peel’s enzymes and push out the splinter for easier removal. No worries about tearing!
Soothe itches Rub moist peels on any bug bite, sting, or any other itch. It’s the natural solution to a natural problem! The acids and vitamins soothe the pain and itching.
Banana Peel Juice Just add peels to a pot of boiling water and let it sit for 10 minutes. Remove the peels, and add the resulting vitamin-rich juice to smoothies or other drinks. Make sure to wash the peels first!
Improve your Complexion Take a ripe banana peel and massage it across your face every few days. The peel’s nutrients can nourish your skin, making you look younger and healthier. Bananas are the new cucumbers!
Whiten Teeth Avoid harmful chemicals and processed ingredients by going the natural route — just rub fresh banana peel on your teeth daily! It removes stains and freshens them up.
Remove ink stains If soap and water aren’t doing the job, rub the inside of a banana peel and watch the stains disappear. The banana oils will bind to the ink oils, and loosen the particles from your skin. Simply rub it off.
Shine your shoes Banana peels are great for shining things. Rub it over a bit of leather and immediately see the difference — a nice, great-smelling sheen. Shine up with a soft cloth.
Stop insects from eating your plants Get rid of them by cutting up two or three peels, digging an inch-deep hole at the base of your plants and place it there. The high potassium wards off these plantkillers.
Banana trunks are able to hold water thus a good idea to use them as containers. Cut out some holes as shown in photo, add soil, compost, etc. then plant your vegs.

PET NUTRITION REVISITED
? By Ilse Makowka
So much has changed in the last 50 odd years. We’ve seen racial segregation, political and traditional family structures erode and evolve under the influence of civil rights, women’s liberation, the sexual revolution, financial deregulation, and creation of the Internet. Faced with the devastating consequences blind pillaging of our natural resources brought, we are slowly exploring sustainable alternatives. Why do things change? Because someone starts questioning why we do what we do. The time has come to question why we feed our pets the way we do.
So we end up with a bowl of dehydrated, starch based, processed non-food, but are assured that it provides everything our pets need – scientifically speaking ‘nogal.’
Historically we’ve been conditioned to accept processed pet non-food (kibble) as the norm. More recent efforts to improve the offering were entirely focused on supplements – with marketing drives punting ‘balance’ and ‘complete meal’. For whose benefit are these statements made?
Let’s consider human food for a moment. We now know that processed, fast food don’t do us any good, nutritionally speaking. Why would this be different for animals? A thought that must have occurred to more and more people, culminating into the cage rattling Biologically Appropriate Raw Food (“BARF”) diet debate in the early 2000’s.
Founded by Australian veterinary surgeon, Dr Ian Billinghurst, the BARF diet finally presented an approach that made sense. (And thank goodness he’s a vet.) At its core, BARF purports a species appropriate diet for dogs and especially cats, based on meat combined with the appropriate veg & fruit ratio – no grains, preservatives, or flavourings. The food is fed raw to ensure no nutrients and living enzymes (aiding digestion) are killed during the manufacturing process; optimizing absorption of these nutrients by the body. Understandably this idea upsets the kibble applecart and pro lobbyists are adamant in their objections, citing the ‘scientific’, ‘hygienic’ and ‘balanced/complete meal’ properties dry pet food annexed. For us it’s a simple test of logic: On the one hand, we have dehydrated, grain based, biologically inappropriate, processed pellets containing supplements, flavourants and preservatives. On the other, a fresh meal made with real meat and veg/fruit, bursting with nutrients in a form that the body can easily process and absorb.
It’s certainly not rocket science. As with anything, however, we need to be discerning in the consumer choices we make. Do your own research around BARF principles, the importance of raw, meaty bones and fasting (for dogs). When choosing a raw food brand, carefully scrutinize ingredients, including meat source and meat/veg/fruit ratios.
Feed your pets real food and watch them thrive!

Medical Medium: Secrets Behind Chronic and Mystery Illness and How to Finally Heal by Anthony William Anthony William, Medical Medium, has helped tens of thousands of people heal from ailments that have been misdiagnosed or ineffectively treated or that doctors can’t resolve. He’s done this by listening to a divine voice that literally speaks into his ear, telling him what lies at the root of people’s pain or illness, and what they need to do to restore their health. His methods achieve spectacular results, even for those who have spent years and many thousands of dollars on all forms of medicine before turning to him. Now, in this revolutionary book, he opens the door to all he has learned over his 25 years of bringing people’s lives back: a massive amount of healing information, much of which science won’t discover for decades and most of which has never appeared anywhere before. Medical Medium reveals the root causes of diseases and conditions that medical communities either misunderstand or struggle to understand at all. It explores all-natural solutions for dozens of the illnesses that plague us, including Lyme disease, fibromyalgia, adrenal fatigue, chronic fatigue syndrome, hormonal imbalances, Hashimoto’s disease, multiple sclerosis, depression, neurological conditions, chronic inflammation, autoimmune disease, blood-sugar imbalances, colitis and other digestive disorders, and more. It also offers solutions for restoring the soul and spirit after illness has torn at our emotional fabric. Whether you’ve been given a diagnosis you don’t understand, or you have symptoms you don’t know how to name, or someone you love is sick, or you want to care for your own patients better, Medical Medium offers the answers you need. It’s also a guidebook for everyone seeking the secrets to living longer, healthier lives.
“The truth about the world, ourselves, life, purpose—it all comes down to healing,” Anthony William writes. “And the truth about healing is now in your hands.”

Highly Acclaimed Comedy Coming from Israel to South Africa “Together, Against the Odds” Desert Rose Productions, an English-speaking theater production company in Israel, is bringing its highly acclaimed comedy, “Together, Against the Odds” to South Africa during November. The show, starring married South African couple, Grant Crankshaw and Daniella Roman, is an hilarious autobiographical tale of the couple and their experiences both pre and post Aliyah (immigration to Israel). The show features a collection of funny vignettes of this unlikely couple’s adventures through their extraordinary lives. From their meeting at Wits Drama School during the tumultuous 80s and falling in love while reconciling their religious and cultural differences to immigrating to Israel, which results in their perpetual adjustment to a foreign culture, the two tap their comedic talents to create a hysterical show that resonates with audiences on multiple levels. From the time they immigrated, some 19 years ago, Grant and Daniella have been constantly involved in Englishspeaking theater in Israel performing in numerous productions including “All My Sons”, “Vanities”, “Lysistrata” and “Tom & Viv” among others. They also had the distinction of originating roles in the children’s productions of “Smoke & Mirrors” and the Israeli drama, “Eli, Eli”. The two opened their own production company, Desert Rose Productions, and along with their growing stable of actors, have produced and performed their original shows “Sentimental Journey”, “Broadway Babes” and “Together, Against the Odds”. Over the past year, their show, “Together, Against the Odds”, has played to high acclaim across Israel, from Karmiel in the north to Be’er Sheva in the South and everywhere in between. “We have been overwhelmed by the reactions we have received from audiences,” says Grant Crankshaw. “We seem to have hit a chord with both Olim (Immigrants) and Sabras (Natives) who gain a deeper appreciation of the challenges we face every day in this tiny corner of the world.” The show will only have two performances in Johannesburg due to the couple’s limited time in South Africa but they are planning to return in July 2017 for a longer run after completing tour commitments in Israel, the UK and USA. The show will be performed on Thursday, 24th November at the Indaba Hotel in Fourways and on Saturday 26th November at the Janx Hall, Beit Emanuel in Parktown. Show starts at 20h00. Tickets are R180 (early bird) and R200 and can be purchased online at Webtickets: http://bit.ly/2drkhPJ For video, photos and audience comments: http://bit.ly/2dXo4mb
