nature residence design Bamboouse is a compound word, combining with bamboo and house, as well as meaning of using bamboo. The two fields,nature and residence,are incorporated skillfully in this design project, and interaction between plants and humans is emphasised by unique spatial formation. In order to design properly and more precisely, analyses are used in several parts of this project, such as location, kinds of species, weather condition, sunlight, wind and so forth. The reason that the building is constructed is mentioned thoroughly based on some necessory reasons as well. Finally, models are made in1/50 scale, including whole appearance of mainbody, geographic features, details of outside look and so on. After looking at the models and with the process of handmade models, designers can comprehend relations between outdoor environment and interior space more deeply.

“From plants to building, from building to nature,and from nature to interaction.� The process of transformation of Chinese words and plants is a revolutionised idea in my original thinking structure, with which everything are come up with by this specific theme. Interestingly, the concept still goes back to the building and interaction connected to humans and plants, which is delineated by the left mind map. As clearly as the diagram I hope to record, it illustrates lots of design features how I make up the thinking system and circulation, also showing some ideas of building development.

When it comes to nature, the obvious symbol of nature is plants, which are connected to my experience of making bamboo furniture in university. Possibilities of taking bamboo as some furnitures is proved by myself ; however, does bamboo can be a spatial design? Maybe this project has answered this question. Basically, bamboo is a vital role in Chinese style design ,and we cannot easily take them apart without adequate explaination,therefore, I tend to use this familiar but still unacquainted material to create innovation of spatial design.

SITE ANALYSIS
Located in a side of a circular-shaped lake, the main building lies in front of a bamboo forest and owners can overlook distant view, peaks, or enven enjoy brisk breeze in the morning. Surrounded by bamboos in this space, human is complementary element of the whole building because interaction between humanbeings and nature occur everywhere.
NATURAL SHIELD STABLE LIVING ENVIRONMENT
Built along the rolling hills beside the lake ,the building stretches above the surface of the lake and covers parts of the lakeside. With specific structures, the building demonstrates a sense of levitation of the biggest carrior, and are equipped with several main parts, which integrate each other in a way og geometrical pattern.
SUSTAINABILITY
MUTUAL BENEFITS
There are few species around the lake ecology, including makino bamboo, champhor wood, native red dragonfly, black bear and so on. Depending on different altitude and condition, the species may be various.
Covered by the bamboo forest, sandy loam overlays the surface of the land, and mutual benefits occur between soil and local plants due to the features of shallow and extensive roots the plants have. The plants can provide stable structure for relatively loose soil.
Three peaks are located in the vicinity of the lake, forming a natural shield for the lake ecology against sunlight and monsoon. The peaks and the lake sustain the balance of local weather, ecological chain and even human activities.
Static water body is surrounded by peaks, influenced by emission of artificial polluted water and creatures activities. Containing minerals, phosphorus, chlorophyll a, freshwater is utilized as irrigation of terraces and other agricultural activities.

According to the statistics, the majority of population is attributed to the middle aged adults, who may represent the productivity of this suburban area. It is also interesting to note that 20 to 25 year old young adults enjoy a lion’s share among 20 to 40 year olds, which probably means that industrial migration is slowly.

Due to the location of the building, the sun rises at the east of the building, going down at the opposite side, and the peak at the right side of the building forms the natural shield against bright sunlight, providing indirect light for the living environment.
SUBURBAN AREA
Local residents live on agritourism and quality agriculture, including terraces irrigation and souvenirs
Because of silence and comfort level of the suburban area, owners chose the lake side to build their studio,

ROCK STRATA & ECOLOGICAL PROTECTION
Under the sandy loam of the bottom of the lake, the rock strata is discovered and used as the main structural point for whole building. It is beneficial to the lake ecology and environment that artificial building cannot interfere in the lake system as well as achieving the major goal that nature and humans can stay in harmony.
The purpose of setting up bamboo handcrafts workshop is to make products and souvenirs for tourists and customers visiting the lake area. Secondly, owners who are designers are keen on making bamboo products and furniture, therefore, they decide to settle down near the lakeside. Moreover, it is also suitable for designers creating their works and finding out inspiration in natural atmosphere.

Integrating with dinning space, kitchen and bathroom, the ground floor serves as the major area of public activity. With the height difference of 100 centimeters, dinning space can be reflected to the outside geographic condition ( rolling hills), also creates the diversity of connection between individual area.

Height difference is emphasised by several terraces and the balcony between the interior and outside environment. People live in this building made up of geometric shapes can feel the various possibilities of spatial design and atmosphere.

light and views distant lake views with abundant openings Distant views and scenery are the main attraction of building the house, thus, openings are vital and should be carefully arranged in this project. The picture below showed not only the direction of light but the sight, which can understand the relationship of light and visual views.

The right diagram reveals the relations of main areas in this building, including the distances and the proportion of every area (comparison of different areas by sizes of circles). Three colours are used to refer to the public, private areas and overlap. The links in this building are spiral stairs, outside stairs and inside stairs which can establish contact of different areas.

sunlight Roofs are the best part of receiving sunlight and rainfall so that plants can grow efficiently as well as vigorously.
looking down outdoors, looking up indoors Roof garden is a surface of interaction between humans, plants and light, also plays a big role of corridor before entering the master bedroom. Interaction happens when people look up indoors in bathroom or look down at roof garden. The process of looking is a visual form of abstract concept which stands for a specific behaviour between plants or nature and humans or residence. Observation of circular glass on ceiling or roof can be done in daily activities, such as taking a shower, chatting with friends or even just watering the flowers. These above usual events go insensibly with nature, and become an inevitable process of living routines.

THE WORLD UNDER MICROSCOPE CIRCULAR AND STRUCTURAL BAMBOO TRANSECTION
Coming up with the idea of circular glass embedded in ceiling and roof is derived from bamboo itself, saying more precisely, its cells. Plants receive sunlight on the top of their leaves or bodies, which is logically similar to concept of buildings, thus, considering the places and the essence of authentic factors, roofs and ceilings are the best design points for this concept. When it comes to spatial design, two aspects should be simultaneously considered : inside and outside environment, and ceilings and roofs are the opposite side of a building’s top and just can be regarded as the above factors mentioned.

Made up of native camphor wood board and blocks, studios are full of natural aroma of camphor wood, which can release pressure from onerous tasks in residents’ mind. Diversity of heights can provides more fun and exploration for tedious or sedentary lifestyle. Working studio is multifunctional space, including meditation of design concept, YOGA and overlooking. Painting studio is a place for owners to create their own works based on their living experience and cognition.

Multifunction is the final design core in this space, and the purpose of multifunctional design is that owners can live in a single area without flexible movement. Although it is not suitable for people with sedentary lifestyle, flexibility is designed in different aspects, such as diversity of heights, height differences in ground floor and outside stairs. With the above design features, owners can change their lifestyle more easily by watering flowers, because they have to go outdoors into the roof garden.

Artificial ceiling fixtures are installed on the extensive bamboo tree in master bedroom in order to provide enough light for any activities at night. By contrast, it is not necessary to turn on those lights during daytime because of abundant openings and nice day lighting.

Not only the vertical openings but ceiling openings are designed to receive as much as natural light so as to achieve the goal of saving electric energy. Porch is a buffer for visitors between interior space and exterior one, however, it is really impressive that porch is the first sight of a space, and represents the personalities and preferences of housekeepers. Thus, the idea of bamboo gallery emerges in my mind because owners prefer making works with bamboo material.Incorporating nature with residence, design purpose aims at integrated residential and environmental areas with living function and practical uses.

AQUA molecules geometry possibilities
Triangle is simplest surface made up of three points and lines, which is similar to structure of basic elements in creatures’ bodies, aquarium molecules. According to the composition of aqua molecule, a pattern is drawn in several triangles and circles as conceptual idea depending on which individual floor plans are arranged, elevations are combined with those elements and model in scale are made afterward. Moreover, different age groups are considered that their visions have differences, therefore, specific heights are designed in elevations to satisfy individual requirement, such as openings, handrails and instruction boards. Besides, relationships of parents and children accent and respond to core purpose that a public space should be without age limit, and is free for disabilities to visit.

Plans are underpinned by basic and figurative geometric shapes as mentioned previously, including circles, triangles, overlapping circles and lines. It is also worth noting that two shapes should overlap or interlock in different ways, such as concurrent points and lines. Furthermore, stylish shapes are combined with practical spatial functions in order to cater for users’ experience.

Although there are several height differences in this project, accessibility is well concerned at several parts of aquarium. Besides, wheelchairs are access to every space in aquarium except swimming pool and main purpose of idea is to make the disable enjoy special atmosphere inside or outside the aquarium.
Companion of children is the most heart-warming experience in every parents’ memory as well as the best period in pupils’ childhood. So as to make new memory in both parent and children’s mind, aquarium is a place where they can visit and have valuable living experience.

Aquarium building introduces river biology and water circulation from mountains to ocean step by step, which imitates life-size scenes for visitors, such as mountains, rivers, estuary, coral system and so on. Skywalk is interlinked with aquarium building and terrace so that visitors can enjoy process of sunlight sprinkling as well as experience exciting transparent floor. Dramas are performed by staff in costumes on regular basis every day in order to attract and impress children and parents. Speech hall also built to invite celebrities and instructors giving lectures regularly. What is more is that looking along oblique roof visitors can find out souvenir shop where they can have a good memory at the end of this visiting.

There are two major design purposes on fifth floor : first one is penetrability of transparent toughened glass, and another one is related to water and aqua molecules, swimming pool. The former aims at making good use of glass openings 18 meters above ground to create nautical sunlight effect covering whole aquarium. The latter demonstrates the reason that swimming pool is designed in an aquarium and enhances interests when people visit this place.

They can choose different floors and seats as usual visitors and have rights to enjoy the same atmosphere as normal people, especially for visual-impaired people, who can listen to piano on sixth floor though they cannot appreciate views outside.

WOODEN BOXES According to the left material board, the floor is veneered in maple wood board extensively and covered by polished pale yellow tiles. The former material stands for warm touch receptive field and figurative emotion of belongingness; the latter refer to pure or vivid spirit in one’s mind and memory. The goal is to transform living room into multifunctional area in space and provide several activities of possibilities. In term of activities, friends can chat with each other with wooden chairs, create paintings together or even just sit on the ground with carpet and side table.

Clothes are closest things attached to human bodies every day, and someone can feel temperature of those clothes by touching them, however, the temperature comes from owners themselves, which means that emotion is produced by life creatures. What is more is that temperature can be found out on the surface of woods in emotional aspects because woods are a kind of silent life. In response to the above concept, two different wood boards are used in this project, being complementary to commercial space redesign and famous brand garment. Detailed plans and drawings of elevation are made in order to illustrate composition of cabinets and areas. Also, perspectives are done to show effects of several areas.

Manipulating woods in interior space is a way to retrieve parts of nature into residence, so the process of transformation is required so as to create natural elements with artificial methods. At the moment, original layout of this space included basic sanitary facilities, bedroom and desk and so on. However, it was unsuitable for people living in permanently because of narrow length and lack of openings as well as poor circulation. For the above reasons, renovation was necessary.

REDESIGN
Originally, the site was used as residential suite and rented by college students nearby. As lease expired, owner tended to renovate this space in order to earn extra money. How to combine practical function and preference of owner are main cores of this project.
Requirements include enough storage, display, cash register and fitting room, also dummy is necessary for shopkeepers to show seasonal clothes. Passage is arranged directly between clothes rails and cabinets because linear circulation is more suitable for narrow and long layout.

Underpinned by natural shapes and usual things in life, appearances of bamboo works are closer to our living experience transforming simple stuff into other aesthetic crafts. Accenting essence of bamboo and simplicity of genre are main purpose as making bamboo crafts, and I believe that creators can experience something about bamboo itself rather than final projects during process of innovation.

from concrete objects to abstract ideas, repeated methodology Intuitive thinking structure is adopted in these two furniture designs so as to reflect original outlines of things. From bamboo leaves and light bulb to shelves and lamp, simple connections can be easily perceived , also using direct observation is an easy method to integrate intentions and works.

Trying a new work with unused material, I decided to face challenge just as the concept of this bamboo shelf.When you appreciated this shelf in different directions, you could find out changes of bamboo. Except that specific views can be observed in three elevations, shadow and light effect are concern and coming from criss-cross veins of leaves.

dimensions Two parts are designed in this shelf project in order to create different visual layers as well as according with main idea of different directions. Because of natural limits of bamboo strips in width, dimensions and gaps between two strips are properly considered and calculated.

It was the first time that I tried to use natural material to create new craft with craftsman who comes from other city in his bamboo workshop. From communication to practical producing, detailed revision and finishing touch, everything is novel and interestingly unexpected for me.

With embedded LED lights on inner side of bamboo strips, the craft reveals bamboo stripes in an artificial outline, bulb- shaped. Combined with easy idea and shape, simplicity of style and function are emphasised.

As novel as making shelf, although producing or designing lights are undertaken several times during college courses, turning them into reality is another task. Therefore, interaction with craftsman and prepared data for producing are both necessary prior to visiting workshop.
