ROTARY LUXEMBOURG

100.000$ TO END POLIO NOW: ALMOST THERE ! LAUNCHED IN 2010 BY MEMBERS OF ROTARY SCHUMAN (LUXEMBOURG), THE 100.000$ CAMPAIGN TO “END POLIO NOW” IS ABOUT TO FINISH. JOIN OUR EFFORTS IN THE LAST “MILES”. YOU CAN EVEN RUN WITH US IN NEW YORK.

26 MILES TO GO. It started with 2 Rotary members raising money and running their first marathon in New York back in 2010. 2 years later, they were joined by a third runner and companies started supporting their quest. In 2013, itbecame a Rotarian national cause : more than 50 rotary members and nonmembers raised money, so that the 74.000$ bar was reached ! There is now 2 months to go before the New York Marathon. 4 runners of the team will run there, with one goal : cross the finish line below 4 hours and with the 100.000$ mark behind them. Join the team !

DONATE ! There are 2 ways to donate. If you are an individual, go to www.team-rotary.org, click on... and donate the amount that you want. It is tax deductable and the system accepts payments by credit card or Paypal. If you are a company, contact us at contact@360Crossmedia.com and donate 520$ to support our cause. (20$ per mile) You can also organise a fund raising in your company : we will provide magazines, postcards, so

06

that people raising funds will have an easy time convincing their friends and colleagues to give. We even have the possibility to have an employee runner from your company run in New York.

ABOUT POLIO Polio is a sickness that can handicap someone for life, or even kill him, but it is also very easy to prevent and will soon be eradicated. A vaccine only costs 0,6 dollar. Since 1979 Rotary Clubs have raised more than 1 billion dollars, helped by philanthropic bodies like “Bill & Melida Gates Foundation”. Today, Polio only remains in 3 countries : Afghanistan, Pakistan and Nigeria. In a few month CNN will announce that Polio has been eradicated. Will you be one of the spectators who will be able to say “I contributed to this success” ?

LOUIZA BELHADAD STRIDING AHEAD LOUIZA BELHADAD IS HAPPY TO SWAP HER HIGH HEELS FOR RACING SPIKES. AND THE MARATHON RUNNER IS LEAVING HER COMPETITORS IN THE DUST.

AN EMPLOYEE LIKE ANY OTHER? At first sight, Louiza Belhadad seems no different to any of her colleagues. Just like them, the young woman goes to work every day. Just like them, she works diligently on the tasks entrusted to her. You might think that there is no one factor that truly sets her apart from the rest of the staff at SGG. Unless you happen to meet her in a race. From cross-country to halfmarathons or marathons, Louiza takes them all in her stride. And faster than anyone else. As demonstrated by her winning time of one hour and 24 minutes, wearing SGG’s colours, in the ING Luxembourg half-marathon. Who could beat that? PASSION AT FULL SPEED Louiza first discovered athletics in 1991. It may well be a demanding, difficult and sometimes thankless discipline, but a passion is still a passion. In all weathers and in all terrain, one essential rule holds true: may the best woman win and training is what counts. The young woman is by no means a newcomer: “I had already taken part in the 2008 ING marathon. It’s a difficult route, the toughest challenge in Luxembourg. I was contacted by the management of SGG who wanted to put together a team.” Louiza didn’t

08

need to think about it for long. She quickly agreed. After finishing the Paris marathon, her fitness level was high. She put together a small team and training sessions were organised in the evenings and during lunch breaks. It took discipline and training... but that’s what it’s all about! A REAL TEAM Louiza really wanted to pull out all the stops for this event. In the first place, because this cheerful young athlete always strives to do her best, and secondly, to fly the flag for SGG. The company has supported Louiza and her colleagues from the very beginning, so beating the clock was the least she could do. Louiza wanted to succeed for herself, for the company and for all those who supported her and came to cheer her on. Loyal support gives runners wings. The adventure is not over and will continue with the Esch 10 Miles race in autumn. In the meantime, some of Louiza’s colleagues have been inspired to follow her example. They come together for a weekly running session every Thursday and people who thought they would struggle to run for twenty minutes are surprised to find themselves lasting a whole hour. Team spirit is always a strong motivator.

CONCEPT Erich François, the organiser of the Luxembourg Marathon, is also a professional photographer. From the very beginning, his smooth organisation of this popular event has been accompanied by a concern for aesthetic appeal. A meeting with Jérôme Bloch, a marathon r u nner and CEO of the communication agency 360Crossmedia, proved a rich source of fresh ideas. The most inspiring revolved around photographing runners before and after the race – in close -up and w ith per fect lig hting. Consequently, two well-known photographers from Luxembourg were selected for this first

12

edition: Christophe Olinger, with a strong record in art galleries, and Olivier Minaire, another expert in light. PHOTOGRAPHS You simply need to visit www.facesofmarathon. com to see the results for yourself: on each face, the effort is reflected very differently. While some people seem to show almost no signs of fatigue, others have undergone a radical transformation: pushed to the limit, their bodies appear to have dilated their veins to the maximum, their lower jaws fall as their mouths open to take in more air, a sheen of sweat has given their skin a liquid

© 360Crossmedia/Olinger & Minaire

appearance, almost appearing to flow slowly towards the ground. Yet the overriding emotion on all of these faces is one of joy. The objective set months, or even years ago in some cases, has been achieved – perhaps in terms of the distance covered, the time recorded or even the sum collected for their chosen cause. It is a very inspiring sight for the spectators gathered along the route, and for visitors to the exhibition. EXHIBITION The first exhibition is planned for October 2013 in Luxembourg, supported by ING and SGG. What makes the concept unique is the

fact that companies are invited to purchase prints which they can then combine with photographs from other businesses to create exhibitions in galleries, companies or public areas. Organisers of other marathons have also been approached to continue the adventure, as well as art galleries. For Jérôme Bloch, who will once again be taking part in the New York marathon in 2013, it would be amazing to share these shots in the “Big Apple”. There is still ground to cover.

TEAM-RUN A RACE FOR HOPE

ALLM - LUXEMBOURG ASSOCIATION FOR

THE FIGHT AGAINST CYSTIC FIBROSIS

WHAT IS CYSTIC FIBROSIS? Cystic fibrosis is one of the most common serious genetic diseases. It affects the respiratory system and/or digestive system. In relation to the respiratory system, the disease disrupts glandular function, while on a digestive level it prevents food from being digested. In turn, this can lead to a slowdown in growth and to pancreatitis at a later stage. It is therefore a serious chronic disease that is difficult for patients to cope with as, apart from daily medication, several hours of treatment are often required each day. The benefits of “reasonable” exercise have been demonstrated. Running even has a beneficial effect on breathing and mucus. AN ACTIVE APPROACH: A FUN WAY OF PROMOTING THE CAUSE! The aim of this first joint event was above all to bring together and strengthen interactions between patients, parents and carers – each step taken is a means of showing patients that they are not alone – as well as raising awareness of this rare disease and finally… assisting medical research by gathering funds. We are very happy that 33 people spontaneously agreed to give up their free time and energy to take part in the event. The association gave each volunteer a T-shirt (sponsored) featuring the ALLM logo. Volunteers paid the registration fee and those who wished to provide financial support for the association made a donation.

REFLECTING THEIR STRONG COMMITMENT TO FIGHTING CYSTIC FIBROSIS, PARENTS, FAMILY MEMBERS, DOCTORS, PHYSIOTHERAPISTS AND FRIENDS OF CYSTIC FIBROSIS PATIENTS FORMED A TEAM TO TAKE PART IN THE ING EUROPE MARATHON IN LUXEMBOURG CITY ON 8 JUNE THIS YEAR.

A SUCCESSFUL FIRST EVENT AND A DATE FOR THE DIARY IN 2014 We would like to say a big Thank You to all those who took part. It was a very successful and very well organised event with a great atmosphere. We are planning to do it again next year. We look forward to the 2014 event and hope to see even more people who would like to support our cause.

COLOR RUN

INDIA-INSPIRED GLOBAL ‘RACE’

COMES TO LUXEMBOURG THE FIRST LUXEMBOURG EDITION OF THE COLOR RUN, A GLOBAL RUNNING EVENT INSPIRED BY INDIA’S SPRING FESTIVAL AND FIRST STAGED LAST YEAR IN ARIZONA, WILL TAKE PLACE ON SEPTEMBER 21 AT THE ECHTERNACH LAKE.

AN INTERNATIONAL PHENOMENON The Color Run was dreamed up in Arizona by American Travis Snyder, and the first race took place in Phoenix in January last year with 6,000 participants. Over the course of 2012 the event was organised in 50 cities, and more than 600,000 people took part. This year the event has come to Europe, taking its global scope to more than 100 events and over a million participants. It’s also taking place in central and south America, East Asia, South Africa and New Zealand.

© Color run

A FIVE-KILOMETRE PARTY The Color Run, a 5,000-metre race that is determinedly non-competitive, is inspired by India’s Holi spring festival. All participants start in a white tee-shirt, but they are doused with different colouring in zones at each kilometre mark. The paints are a mix of cornflour and edible colouring elements, which means they are completely environment-friendly.

NO STRESS, BUT SIGN UP EARLY The race is not timed, which means less stress and expectation, and more fun. That makes it unsurprising that 60 per cent of all participants are running 5,000 metres for the first time, and that 75 per cent of them are women. However, the one area where speed is required is in signing up, because the registration fee varies the earlier you sign up, the cheaper it is. In Amsterdam, the 5,000 available spots were sold within just 10 minutes. REGISTRATION: WWW.ELDO.LU

SUCCESS

360CROSSMEDIA IN BRIEF ITS NAME FEATURES ON AROUND EIGHTY MAGAZINES, THOUSANDS OF WEBSITES AND COMES UP IN INDUSTRIES AS VARIED AS INVESTMENT FUNDS, ICT, THE MEDICAL WORLD OR ARTS AND CRAFTS. INTERVIEW WITH ITS CEO. WHAT EXACTLY IS 360CROSSMEDIA? We have developed a communication system that is one of its kind, a concept that you could compare with the LEGO system: our customers respect a few simple rules and in return obtain articles, magazines, videos, professional-quality photos or a strong web presence within very tight deadlines and at an unbeatable price. We can provide an article for just € 375 while a 20-page magazine costs EUR 0. Some customers even make a profit. A complete magazine can be delivered within 24 hours.

16

SO HOW DOES 360CROSSMEDIA WORK? We have developed an ecosystem of content, talent and magazines, all compatible with each other. All our designers have access to all the mock-ups and all the articles except those defined as ‘private’ by our customers, of course. For each project, our users define who does what and by when. They can call on colleagues, friends or professionals. If the team is properly mobilised, things can move ahead at breakneck speed. There’s no need to go after all the parties involved for weeks. Once the content is created, diffusion is a breeze, between Andy, MyOfficialStory, the press, internet and our

customers’ magazines we are spoilt for choice and the results are very easy to measure. WHAT CAN 360CROSSMEDIA DO FOR ME? An article, a magazine, a website, a webTV ... Over the past 24 months, we have invested heavily in technology. Our latest innovation, «Social Typhoon», makes it possible to put together 1, 100 or 1000 interviews in 5 minutes. We have also developed a computer engine that searches for useful content in milliseconds. Faced with the crisis, innovation and speed of execution are the best defences. This solution can be rolled out in companies but also for individuals, schools, public places and hospitals, in fact anywhere where people have plenty of time to kill and where content creation may have therapeutic properties.

360CROSSMEDIA IN FIGURES? The company was founded in 2000 and has already published 77 magazines in five languages. 65% of our turnover is still generated in Luxembourg, but the increasing automation of our system allows us to create a solid customer base in Switzerland, France, England and even the United States. Ultimately, we want to become the eBay of content and aim to do so by purchasing a lot of internet advertising and pursuing an aggressive investment policy.
