New Philadelphia Tree Lights Up South Fork A special gift is coming to the South Fork community this December, guaranteed to brighten our neighborhood. A community Christmas tree will be erected in late November and will be lighted on the first day of Advent which is Sunday, December 2nd. The lighting ceremony will conclude an Open House that begins at 4 p.m. Here are the details: • 4 p.m. ~ The church doors open to members, friends and neighbors. Tours will be offered to newcomers, and everyone will be invited to the Banquet Room to create a beautiful Chrismon ornament to take home for your own tree. • 5 p.m. ~ Exit the building from the Banquet

Room or the Sanctuary where hot chocolate and Moravian cookies are waiting. Then process to the church lawn between the driveway and parsonage where our tree awaits. • Our 12-foot evergreen comes straight from a tree farm in Plumtree, NC. It will be loaded with 2,500 brilliant lights, and topped, of course, by a Moravian star. We’ll enjoy sharing Christmas carols until the countdown begins. • 5:15 p.m. ~ Our countdown begins and the tree is lighted for the first time. Maybe there will even be snowflakes! • Please put this event on your calendars. It’s a wonderful time to welcome visitors and begin the season as we await the coming of the light of the world.

self-sufficient.

Sunnyside Ministry – David Holston David provided the committee with a very sobering account of children hunger in our community and how Sunnyside is helping to feed, clothe and provide financial support to those in need. Sunnyside ministry started in 1978, and has been serving those in need primarily in Southern Forsyth County. Sunnyside operates one of the largest Food Pantries in Forsyth County, providing over 251,360 meals in 2017. The meals feed approximately 17,000 people who are food insecure in our community. They provide clients with fresh produce from several community gardens and fresh organic bread from local bakeries. Of the major crisis agencies in Forsyth County, Sunnyside is the only one that still operates a clothing center; providing free clothing in sizes from infants to adults. They provided clothing to 16,248 people in 2017. Sunnyside provides assistance to avoid utility disconnection and for utility deposits. Assistance is also provided with furnace oil for clients that use that type of heating system. Beginning in 2018, Sunnyside Ministry implemented a new program aimed at helping clients move to self-sufficiency. Each client seeking financial assistance will complete, with the assistance of an interviewer, their own Action Plan. This Action Plan is a map that clients follow as they work on changing the situations that hold them in poverty. The Plan will address employment; financial literacy; physical and mental health issues and social concerns. With the support of Sunnyside Ministry, clients following their own plan will build the independence that they desire and need to be

If you would like to help those in need through Sunnyside Ministries, you may: 1. Donate food and clothing 2. Volunteer (call 336-724-7558) 3.
