I can’t believe this is my last article for the newsletter, but it suppose it is. I have about a month left at New Philadelphia, and have planned the following sermon series. I hope that many of you will make a special effort to come hear them! September 30 Sermon Title: “The Brave Heart” 1 Samuel 17:32 And David said to Saul, “Let no man’s heart fail because of him; your servant will go and fight with this Philistine.” October 7 Communion, Meditation Title: “The Searching Heart” Deuteronomy 4:29 But from there you will seek the LORD your God, and you will find him, if you search after him with all your heart and with all your soul. Psalm 149 1 Praise the Lord. Sing to the Lord a new song, his praise in the assembly of his faithful people. 2Let Israel rejoice in their Maker; let the people of Zion be glad in their King. 3 Let them praise his name with dancing and make music to him with timbrel and harp. 4 For the Lord takes delight in his people; he crowns the humble with victory. 5 Let his faithful people rejoice in this honor and sing for joy on their beds. 6 May the praise of God
October 21 Sermon Title: “The Believing Heart” Romans 10:8 But what does it say? The word is near you, on your lips and in your heart (that is, the word of faith which we preach); 9 because, if you confess with your lips that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For man believes with his heart and so is justified, and he confesses with his lips and so is saved. October 14 Sermon Title: “The Broken Heart” Psalm 51:17 The sacrifice acceptable to God is a broken spirit; a broken and contrite heart, O God, thou wilt not despise. October 28 Sermon Title “The Wide Open Heart” 2nd Corinthians 6:11 Our mouth is open to you, Corinthians; our heart is wide. 2nd Corinthians 7:2 Open your hearts to us. My time here at New Philadelphia has been blessed. Thank-you all. Blessings, Worth (American Typewriter Font) J be in their mouths and a double-edged sword in their hands, 7 to inflict vengeance on the nations and punishment on the peoples, 8 to bind their kings with fetters, their nobles with shackles of iron, 9 to carry out the sentence written against them—this is the glory of all his faithful people. We will prayerfully consider each request for membership or admission to the rites and sacraments (including marriage ceremonies) as they are made by the individuals who make them. The Board of Elders is also responsible for determining the purposes for which our church buildings and properties may be used. This responsibility was affirmed by Synod. Resolution 14: As we strive to live like Jesus, love like Jesus, and serve like Jesus, the Joint Board of New Philadelphia Moravian continues to uphold our mission statement: New Philadelphia seeks to be a caring congregation, worshiping God, and encouraging one another to seek a closer relationship with Jesus Christ, as we follow the lead of the Holy Spirit in Service and in Mission.
The calling of a new pastor is a function of the Joint Board working with the Provincial Elders’ Conference. As part of this process, the members of the Joint Board will have the opportunity to share their opinions about calling a pastor who is a homosexual.

For your information
October 11, the Funtastics will visit Victory Junction in Randleman. Victory Junction is a Summer camp developed by the Petty family for children with fatal, or serious health problems. The goal of the camp is to get the children to forget about, for a week, their health conditions and just be kids. They do this through a wide variety of activities which include bowling, acting, archery and even repelling. There is much more and they are extremely successful in obtaining their goal.
After our tour, we will have lunch at the Main Street South Steak House. The bus will leave the church at 9:15 a.m. Register your attendance with the Church office by October 8. November 8, the Funtastics will drive through the Southern Blue Ridge Mountains to the Chateau Morrisette Winey. The trip up will enable us to view the Fall colors in their peak. After we tour the winery, there will be time to purchase wine, visit the tasting or just browse around the gift and wine shop. The tasting is optional and there is a $10 fee. We will have lunch in the winery’s restaurant. The bus will leave the church at 9 a.m. Register your attendance with the Church office by November 5.

the church and school leadership. The school children also sang songs of appreciation to the volunteers. School began on September 4 in the fellowship hall, but students will transition to the new classrooms on September 10, 2018. Mission Trip to St. Thomas - Tim Adams: Tim Adams shared his experience on a mission trip to St. Thomas to rebuild four classrooms in a Moravian school that was severely damaged by hurricane Irma and Maria in September 2017. Tim and Justin Linville had also shared their experiences during the worship services. This was one of four trips that were planned by BWM and the missions committee. The Moravians first landed in St. Thomas in 1732, and school was built in 1734. The motto at the school is “God Steers Our Course”. Tim Adams and Justin Linville were members of the third team of volunteers to arrive at the Memorial Campus to help in the rebuilding of four classrooms. Since the hurricane’s damage to the school multiple classes were being held in the fellowship hall, however, this makes for a very noisy learning environment.
Work still needs to be completed, but no further work is planned while school is session, the remainder of the work to be done in 2019. However, if you are interested in volunteering for future mission trips to help members of the congregations in the Virgin Islands please contact Evon Crooks. Tim and Justin also attended worship service and lovefeast at the Nisky Moravian church on St. Thomas. The worship service lasted 2 ½ hours. Business meeting: August 2018 minutes were approved by members present.

2. At this time, no time limit has been established to have a headstone placed on a grave in the Graveyard. Intent is to limit the amount of time that a grave is left unmarked. A motion was made and approved that a headstone must be in place within 6 months or NPMC will order/install a basic stone and bill family for cost. From the Board of Trustees: The following changes were proposed to the “Funeral and Graveyard Policy”: 1. Currently, NPMC covers the cost of organist, sound system support, printing of bulletins for the service, and church clean-up. A motion was made and approved to establish a fee of $300 charged to both church members and non-members to cover the cost of organist, sound system support, printing of bulletins, and church clean-up.
It was then noted there actually was a time limit established in the Funeral and Graveyard Policy of 120 days; the Trustees’ new motion extends the deadline to 6 months instead of 4 months. If you have any questions about this change, you may contact any member of the Trustees: Alan Barber, Beth Byrd, Tim Ward, Chris Rogers, Brad Pitts, Ron Tedder, Michael Crotts, Mike Johnson, Paul Williams, Charles Galloway, Ron Vogler, Smitty Welborn.
Thanksgiving Lovefeast is Sunday, November 18 at 5 p.m. Invite your family and friends and plan to join us. Bring a nonperishable food item for Sunnyside.
