The 2005 Asian 470 Championships were held in ShiShi with good racing and tight competition but China showed it’s dominance. The regatta was a great start to an exciting project for Asia and Int 470. It is hoped that the Asian 470 Powerhouses of Japan and Korea will join in next year along with 470 members like the Philippines, Malaysia and Myanmar.

Regional Championships are the ideal breeding ground for tomorrow’s Champions and give emerging Nations a stepping stone to World Championships.. Thanks goes to the

Chinese Yachting Association for their assistance in the organisation.. See you all again in Rizhao 2006 for the Worlds.

The Video Clips from Hyeres this year were a great inovation and the first 2 days highlights were a terrific advertisment for International 470, while other classes sat on the beach the 470’s ripped around in the 30 knot conditions. In the Men’s fleet there were some familier names at the front end of the fleet and the Spring Cup Champions BRASLAVETS & MATVIENKO (UKR) led the Fleet for most of the week before loosing 1st place on the last day to the Israeli veterans Klinger and Gal. The Bonnaud Brothers were looking to back up their Hyeres win of 2004 and failed by just 2 points. The final results show how close the regatta was with just 5 points seperating 3rd place from 9th place. For Israel it’s a great start to the 2008 Quad with a 1st in the Men’s and a 2nd in Women’s Fleets. Ingrid PETITJEAN & Nadege DOUROUX took out their home Olympic Classes regatta with a clear advantage in all conditions. The next 3 boats from AUT, ISR and ESP battled it out for the minor places. VOGL of Austria was as high as 2nd but had to settle for 4th in the end Siren Sunby had a good start to the regatta but fell away while gaining experience. The Proposed 3 boat “Grand Final” failed to happen due to the light wind conditions.. The whole “Grand Final” format has the whole sport divided on it’s merits. We will watch and learn.
