FOOD FOR THOUGHT
New year, new you? There will be many of you hitting the gym this month as your new year’s resolution. However, while you’re working on your physical fitness, I ask that you also take time to reflect on your mental fitness.
”
As Airmen, we take risks and learn from mistakes every day. But while looking for more ways to be a stronger Air Force, we must also constantly look for ways to take care of our own wellbeing. Resiliency is about overcoming adversity in the face of challenges and stress and it is not always an easy task. But when you face significant challenges, and you most certainly will throughout your career and life, you’re not alone. There are resources and tools available for whatever you need. Resiliency is not just for our military members. When our civilians, spouses, and children are resilient, this spreads throughout the family and ultimately sustains everyone’s mission readiness. Every Airman matters and being the best Air Force the world has ever seen requires all of us working together as an invincible team. Therefore, it is important that we are actively looking out for our wellbeing and the wellbeing of others. Being a good wingman is the mission.

KEEP YOUR RESOLUTIONS
Set Realistic Goals A realistic workout plan is one that takes into account where you are in your fitness journey. Start out somewhere you can grow from, rather than starting too much too fast and risking burnout.
Adjust Your Goals Once you notice a workout becoming easy for you, congratulations! You’re getting stronger. Increase the time, weight for frequency of your workout.
Enjoy Your Workouts Find a workout that works for you. Adjust workouts to your preferences. The more you like the activity, the more likely you will be to enjoy the gym and stay there.
Keep it Interesting Try something new! Join a group class, follow a fitness blog or mix in weight training and cardio workouts. If you are looking to tone and lose weight, you'll need to do about 1-1.5 days of cardio for every 2 days you train with weights.
Plan & Schedule Ahead Pack your bag the night before, then plan to meet a buddy or a trainer at the gym. For the best results, plan for a minimum of one hour for your workout.
Consult an Expert Boost your health and fitness journey with guidance from the experts. The Fitness Center offers Personal Training from $30/30 minutes or $40/60 minutes.

Winter Survival Kit Happy new year from all the staff at Breckland Pines Golf Club! Wishing you great golfing in 2019! Nike Solar Sleeve (RRP $25) “Fantastic product and one I personally wear.”*
One of the biggest issues when playing winter golf is the requirement to wear extra layers, which in my personal experience has a detrimental effect on your ability to swing the club. The Solar Sleeve solves all those issues. It’s lightweight, breathable and the UV fabric will act as a second skin. It can be worn under a polo shirt allowing you to retain your ability to swing the club while keeping warm.

Nike Cold Weather Gloves (RRP $25) “No cold hands here”.*
Warm hands while playing golf enhance your touch and feel. One of the worst feelings is trying to chip a golf ball while your hands are cold. The Nike Cold weather glove is water resistant and comes as a pair, featuring double layer fleece. All of the above products are available and in stock and in a variety of different sizes at the Breckland Pines Pro Shop. * Tips from Golf Coach Dean Fairweather.

Your Money Managed
MONEY
GAME PLAN
Resolve your finances in the new year
Questions to think about with popular financial New Year’s resolutions. Save More Money This is a great New Year’s resolution. Here are some questions you might consider when setting this resolution. What am I saving for? Have you set a specific spending goal for the savings? Where am I going to be putting this money when I save it? Savings account? Investment account? There can be big differences in the return on different accounts. Are the savings for retirement? Should you save in the TSP or another account? Pay Down Debt Paying down debt or getting debt free is a very popular New Year’s Resolution. This is a pretty straight forward resolution, but there are a few things you should consider. What is the best method for paying down debt? Starting with the highest interest rates first? Or maybe the smallest balance? Or should you take out a consolidation loan to lower your interest rates?
Managing Credit & Debt Thursday, January 31 • 5-6pm This presentation provides information on credit establishment, credit management and debt relief. It introduces debt-to-income ratio concepts, the importance of monitoring credit reports and scores and briefly addresses the Servicemembers Civil Relief Act (SCRA) and bankruptcy.
Make & stick to a spend plan Making a spending plan is really the foundation of having a good financial situation. A spending plan is only as good as your tracking methods. What tracking method should you use? Mobile app? Excel spreadsheet? Pin and paper? If you had a spend plan in the past what were some things that caused you to get off track? Set up an appointment with Financial Counselor Jacob Stewart and he can help you answer these questions!
Check out the Classes & Directory in the back of this magazine for more A&FRC offerings!

MEET YOUR
MECHANIC Andy Challiss • Mechanic Foreman
Part 1: Winter Auto Part 2: MOT Common Pitfalls
Part 3: Maintaining Your Vehicle
Auto Hobby: 4 Years Mechanic: Since Age 16 IN HIS PERSONAL LIFE, ANDY IS THE CHAIRMAN OF A SCHOOL IN BRANDON. HE'S TAKEN TIME OUT OF HIS BUSY SCHEDULE TO GIVE US HIS TIPS FOR MOTORING IN THE UK!
WINTER MOTORING: ANDY'S ADVICE GOOD TIRES ARE ESSENTIAL
In some countries like Germany you must change your tires between seasons. Over here, there’s no requirement for it so most tires that we sell in the UK are known as All Purpose tires. Snow, rain or sunshine, they'll carry you through. Don't forget that spare tire! It’s often overlooked and people don't realise that tires become deflated after a period of time even if not being used.
TAKE CARE WITH YOUR WIPERS
You’ll see it a lot this time of year - wipers will freeze to the screen but people persist with turning them on and then proceed to pop the fuse. Defrosting your screen before trying to turn your wipers on is essential in cold weather. Don’t skimp on screen wash! Get something that’s good and not heavily diluted. There are some cheap brands out there that will just freeze in the cold but we use a good quality, high concentrate formula.
IDENTIFY ISSUES EARLY
Auto Hobby does a 16-point health check with oil changes, which helps catch issues before you hit the road and they become a problem. As an added bonus, you'll generally have less chance of MOT failures if your vehicle has been properly maintained during the year. We'll talk more about this in the February issue!

KEEP UP THE FLUIDS
When we do an oil change at Auto Hobby we offer the option for a fluid top up, which includes wiper fluid, transmission oil, engine oil, brake fluid, power steering and so on. A lot of people don’t check levels of items like power steering fluid until something goes wrong, but then it’s too late! For winter, a strong antifreeze is what you’ll need and one that is suitable for temperatures much lower than what you'd expect. Antifreeze also lubricates your engine, so keep it topped up year-round,
BE PREPARED WHEN TRAVELLING
Always check your tires before taking a trip and ensure you have the correct type fitted for the countries you're visiting. Make sure you have everything you need for your journey to complete it safely including topped up fluids and all lights working. Get a friend to help check your four-way flashers (hazard lights) and brake lights.
WINTER CHECKS
Call and set up your FREE winter check! Services include: · Exterior light operation.
· Battery load test and security. · Coolant level/condition.
· Windscreen washer fluid level operation. · Wiper blade condition.
· Tire pressure/tire size check.
LIGHT CONVERSION PRE-INSPECTION Did you just receive your car from the Vehicle Processing Center? Bring it by the Auto Hobby Complex for a preinspection to find out what’s involved in converting it to comply with UK laws.
RETIRE YOUR RIDE SALVAGE PROGRAM Do you need to dispose of a vehicle and want to ensure that it is done correctly? We can handle your vehicle disposal in a legal and environmentally-responsible way. Save yourself time and the hassle of complicated paperwork! Call us and we will tow your vehicle for FREE and keep you out of trouble by taking care of all the necessary arrangements.
DIY AUTO REPAIR Facilities and equipment are available to rent on a first come, first served basis. We have 6 lift stalls, 2 flat stalls, tools, reference materials, FREE Wi-Fi, storage and a car wash for when you’ve finished the job! The last DIY sign-in is 60 mins prior to closing. Monday Blues Special
This Canadian murder/mystery film is a fun slasher movie. It has enough nostalgic moments that will keep you intrigued to keep watching. Four friends have come together to see who the town serial killer is. As they start investigating close to home, they find out all arrows point to their neighborhood cop “ Wayne Mackey”. They start to form a plan on how to get more evidence to pin him to the crimes by sneaking around his home and even following his every move. The film itself does make you feel like you know what’s coming next at times but it’s so suspenseful you start to feel afraid for these teens. The main kid “Davey” knows he’s being closed in on by Wayne, how can you protect yourself by someone who is pure evil? Can you last every day looking over your shoulder? Or hide in darkness? The fight is on for Davey!

Crazy Rich Asians Beautiful and romantically on point. Crazy Rich Asians is a delightful love story that is also about culture, values and family. The movie is very entertaining and gives the audience what they want (a happy ending). The dramas and conflicts of traditions in a family is always hard when you don’t come from tradition yourself. The movie will teach you to be your own person and to fight for what you want, which is love.
