Creative Problem Solving By Dean Fairweather Golf, without question, is one of the most interesting sports. Each hole being different, paired with the ever-changing wind speed, ground conditions and greens speeds, golfers need to be flexible and have the ability to problem-solve. Here's something to inspire you. The late, great Seve Ballesteros grew up in the seaside town of Pedrena, northern Spain. Seve grew up with a cut-down three-iron as his only club therefore he had to be creative and learn a wide variety of shots with just one type of club. Eventually, Seve became one of the most exciting golfers to watch and most creative golfers to ever play the game. Given Seve’s story, imagine how great we could be if we practiced all types of shots on different types of clubs. I encourage all my students to go out and play golf with five clubs of their choice so that they can learn how to hit different shots based on the clubs they have at their disposal. In turn, I believe students will not only become a more skillful player but they will also be able to adapt and play a wide range of shots.

The Challenge In anticipation of the Youth Center’s Teen Master Chef challenge on November 30, we have given Bailey Porath and Josiah Gonzalez a chance to show off their skills. They both have a different approach to their dish and have some tips for the potential contestants of the Teen Master Chef Competition. Bailey believes that how you use the ingredients is the most important part of the dish. She is using the perfect slice of tomato and lettuce leaf to layer and balance the flavor of her burger. Using the ingredients in the wrong way can ruin the dish.

Josiah is focusing on the burger meat. He feels that properly seasoning and cooking the star of the show is the best use of time. He is going for a juicy savory flavor by cooking to a perfect medium rare.
